Eibsee Lake at the base of the Zugspitze mountain

The Eibsee Lake is situated approximately 100 km southwest of Munich and near the town of Grainau. The lake is 9km away from the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and at the foot of the Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain). The lake has a surface elevation of 973 m and its surface area is 195 hecatares.

The panorama around Eibsee Lake is breathtakingly beautiful and the crystal-clear water in the lake is amazing; the colour of the lake varies from deep blue to turquoise.

This entire area is ideal for hiking and biking in the summer and for every winter sport imaginable.

Eibsee - Frillensee

Due to its location below the Zugspitze and the clear, green-tinted water, the lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bavarian Alps.

Der Eibsee ist ein See 9 km südwestlich von Garmisch-Partenkirchen unterhalb (3,5 km nördlich) der Zugspitze im Wettersteingebirge in Bayern.

The colors of the Eibsee/Bavaria are incomparably beautiful when the light is right and you have found the right angle to the water.

Die Farben des Eibsee/Bayern sind unvergleichlich schön, wenn das Licht stimmt und man den richtigen Winkel zum Wasser gefunden hat.

In the afternoon in a bay on the north shore of the Eibsee, from where you have a clear view of the Zugspitze massif...when it's not overcast with clouds.

Recreational fun and wonderful colors of the Eibsee at the foot of the Zugspitze on a sunny early autumn day.

Freizeitvergnügen und herrliche Farben des Eibsee am Fuß der Zugspitze an einem sonnigen Frühherbsttag.

Greetings from Germany friends! This is the Eibsee lake in Bavaria, looking up to Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2962 m or 9718 ft). The cablecar which opened in 2017 has the World's longest unsupported cable span of 3213 m. It was vanishing into the clouds as we watched. We enjoyed a hike through the forest around the lake on well-marked trails. We left just before a tremendous thunderstorm which turned the roads into rivers!

Eibsee is a lake in Bavaria, Germany, 9 km southwest of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and roughly 100 km southwest of Munich. It is 973.28 metres above sea-level and its surface area is 177.4 hectares. It is at the northerly base of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain.

A huge landslide more than 3700 years ago shaped the present lake with its 29 submarine basins and 8 islands. A unique mountain lake, since it is very unusual. Wikipedia

The Eibsee-Seilbahn cable car is lifting passengers from lake Eibsee up to the summit of Germany's highest peak, the Zugspitze (2,965 m). The cable car is being operated since 1963 and runs on a length of 4,450m over two pylons (65m and 85m high). The elevation gain of 1,950 metres (6,398 ft) continues to be the highest of all aerial cableways achieved in a single section.

A crystal-clear natural wonder right at the foot of Zugspitze mountain

Eibsee is a lake in Bavaria, Germany,

it's nearly spring but the Lake is still frozen solid.

The Eibsee can be circumnavigated in summer and winter. The hiking trail is specially designed and has a gravel layer as a surface. This is easy to walk and is also suitable for prams. In winter, it is cleared and scattered, so that it is suitable as a winter circular hiking trail.
