I'd like to think over time my photography will continue to improve and I will be getting shots I've always wanted. This should happen through learning new fieldcraft and all the places I can visit for a range of wildlife. There is already a range of new techniques I've found to improve my shots and there's still more to learn and put in practise.

I've also found there is a great deal of improvement to be gained from learning how to edit your images well particularly if you shoot Raw. I'll be honest I see no point in shooting Jpeg for wildlife as there is always a fair amount of editing required. I feel that from moving my workflow over to Photoshop elements I have gained a much greater set of tools for editing my images and best of all I'm learning more and more how to improve my editing for exposure, colours and sharpness. I may not always be happy with my images as I always feel they could be better I guess I'm harsh on myself but maybe thats what pushes me to get better images and be picky on what I post to the web.

I feel like this is a point in my steam where it's relevant to reflect back on what the winter has brought us in terms of photo opportunities and what the spring and summer will hold before it's all too quickly gone and were back to freezing again.

As the summer migrants move back in to the UK I'll be hoping to focus my attentions on them. I feel I have taken enough of the all year round UK woodland birds and now would like to try the more challenging migrant birds at least when i can.

Oh and the picture is a fresh edit of an winter shot I was really fond of, I'll post that one before and hopefully the improvements are clear, even though as I look at the 2 I'm debating if it is!

I wish everyone the the best for the spring and summer and I hope to see many of your wonderful wildlife pictures, as I really do enjoy them!

Playing with the thermal edit

A re-edit of a photo that I took over 15 years ago with my Canon PowerShot S60 in the first month that I owned it. The S60 launched me on a decade and a half career as a photographer. Revisiting the image, I cleaned in Photoshop, made adjustments (including a very fake sky) and applied a lookup table in Luminar 4.
