Materieel wat in Nederland ook aan vervanging toe is dat van de IC Berlijn. Dit materieel zou vervangen gaan worden door lokken en Rijtuigen van de firma Talgo, en ECx gaan heten. Op 11 Februari 2022 is daar nog niets van te merken als de 1745 met IC 148 an uit Berlijn langs Harselaar komt op weg naar Amsterdam CS
Der ICE-L wird eine neue Ära im lokbespannten Fernverkehr einläuten. Durch den Einsatz der 230km/h schnellen Talgo-Wagen schafft die DB barrierefreien Zustieg an Bahnhöfen mit 76cm Bahnsteighöhe. Das gabs noch nie!
Eigentlich sind für diese Talgo ICE-L Züge extra Loks vorgesehen, die aber (Stand Oktober 2025) noch keine Zulassung haben.
Aus diesem Grund wurden von DB Fernverkehr nun Vectrons angemietet, die das ICE-Farbkleid bekommen haben.
Weiß mit dem berühmten roten Strich. Steht dem Vectron übrigens sehr gut. Hoffen wir, dass die Loks regelmäßig gewaschen werden und das Weiß auch Weiß bleibt.
Der rote Streifen auf den Talgo Wagen, müsste am Übergang etwas weiter nach oben gezogen werden, damit ein stimmiger Übergang mit dem roten Streifen vom Vectron hergestellt wird. Ob das noch irgendwann kommt? ;)
Bei Fahlenbach überraschte mich diese interessante Fuhre eines ICE-L. Bespannt von zwei Vectronen im Sandwich.
193 441 und 193 440 in Fahrtrichtung Ingolstadt.
Mit den kurzen 17 Wagen hat der Zug dennoch eine ordentliche Länge.

I was out in New Jersey over the weekend and took this shot of the Victory Bridge. I had my mini tripod with me (Ultrapod 2) which I always carry in my bag whenever I head out, and took this shot as closest to the water as I could. I also upgraded from the kit lens to a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. I spent the weekend trying it out and testing it's low light performance. So far I'm loving the quality of pictures this lens is producing.

Am 16. Februar 2019 brachten 218 495 und 487 den IC 2012 bis nach Stuttgart HBF. Ziel des Zuges ist Dortmund. Diese Verbindung soll übrigens Bestand haben. Die kürzlich bestellten ECx von Talgo sollen ab 2023 auch nach Oberstdorf fahren. Bei Martinszell genossen zahlreiche Eisenbahnfreunde die Vorbeifahrt des Fernzuges mit den hart arbeitenden klassischen Dieselloks.
On February 16th 2019, DB's 218 495 and 487 hauled IC 2012 to Stuttgart HBF. Destination of the train is Dortmund. This connection should last in the future. The recently ordered ECx from Talgo will also travel to Oberstdorf from 2023 on. At Martinszell, numerous railway enthusiasts enjoyed the long-distance train passing by with the hard-working classic diesel locomotives.

In het voorjaar van 2019 besloot DB tot de koop van 23 nieuwe Talgo treinen die onder andere gaan rijden tussen Amsterdam en Berlijn. Inmiddels is de artist impression gepresenteerd en heeft het project de werktitel ECx gekregen. De Talgo treinen zullen vanaf 2023 in dienst komen. Daardoor zal definitief het doek gaan vallen voor de oude locomotieven van de serie 1700 bij NS Internationaal.
Vanwege het coronavirus rijdt de Intercity Berlijn overigens niet meer sinds 23 maart 2020 in Nederland en sinds 6 april ook niet meer in Duitsland, waardoor de 1700'en op het moment werkloos aan de kant staan. Op zondag 22 maart 2020 kon de 1765 nog worden vastgelegd in de ingraving bij Assel met IC 145 van Amsterdam Centraal naar Bad Bentheim.
Enkele graffiti-tags op de lok en het tweede rijtuig zijn digitaal verwijderd.

I was waiting for the bus with my friends and decided to try out this mini tripod I bought called the "Ultrapod 2." It's a very convenient small tripod which fits in just about any bag and can even be strapped onto poles. I was searching online for a really good mini portable tripod for weeks, and after reading so many positive reviews about this tripod I finally bought it. I decided to try a long exposure shot to try it out and it really served it's purpose. I took a few shots before this but they weren't coming out right due to it being so bright outside. About 10 to 15 minutes in, I realized the blue hour was in effect and took this shot. For those of you that don't know what the "Blue hour" is, it's a period of the day each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness. This only happens about twice a day and it only lasts about 10 minutes or less. During the blue hour you get this very mellow and relaxing blue tone in the sky which is great for shooting landscapes, and gives off really pleasing skin tones when shooting portraits as well. If you search for "The Blue Hour" on Flickr you'll find hundreds of other examples of this effect.

On a cracker winters morning, these conditions are ‘poles apart’ from summer conditions...
Emirates 9242 (B77W - A6-ECX) seconds from touching down 16R Sydney Airport (SYD/YSSY) from Dubai (DXB/OMDB)

Het ligt niet in de lijn der verwachting dat het oorspronkelijke plan van NS, de inzet van Vectron locomotieven tussen Amsterdam en Bad Bentheim, nog zal doorgaan. Daarmee zal tegen 2023 het doek gaan vallen voor de inzet van de locomotieven van de serie 1700 bij NS alsmede de inzet van de lokserie 101 voor de IC77 (IC dienst Berlin-Amsterdam).
Op de eerste echte zonnige dag van 2020 is de 101 139 van DB Fernverkehr onderweg met IC 146 uit Berlin Ostbahnhof naar Bad Bentheim en heeft hier bij Öchtel bijna de bestemming bereikt. Vanaf dit grensstation zal een 1700 de trein overnemen en naar Amsterdam Centraal rijden. Vanwege werkzaamheden op de NBS Hannover-Wolfsburg-Stendal-Berlijn wordt de IC77 momenteel omgeleid via Magdeburg en is daarbij een uur langer onderweg.

2001 ERF ECX 6x2 tractor unit registered Y322RSA, in use as a yard shunter with C. & G. Brewster of Forfar. The logbook has not changed in 23 years although it is recorded as grey by the DVLA suggesting there may have been a previous owner. Seen here in March 2026 with thanks to Brewster for letting us take photos.

BE37088 LG72ECX seen at Hanger Lane working on route 226 towards Ealing Broadway.
Only one BE had recently ventured on the 226, BE37088 LG72ECX. This particular BE was seen type training drivers at Edgware before it debuted on the 226 on May 10. No sign of its classmates except the ones still at Shepherd's Bush.
BE37088 is photographed at a less recognisable part of Hanger Lane, having traversed a couple of flats on day 2 of its venture on the 226.
I kind of cheated on this one-- the speech bubble is based on the cover of Wowee Zowee-- but I think I conveyed the Pavementness.

Here is another build for the MA, but to be honest I'm not very happy with it, and if I had time would redo this category: looks like I won't have time though. It's meant to be a ship going off the waterfall(the FP is much better in the second picture) into space with a sea-serpent on the edge.
