Fair and pure in their shady nook,

With a message for me to know.

Saving flora and fauna is essential for maintaining a healthy and balanced ecosystem. Here are some ways we can contribute to this cause:

Protect natural habitats: Natural habitats such as forests, wetlands, and grasslands are crucial for the survival of many species. We need to protect these habitats by preventing deforestation, preserving wetlands, and restoring degraded lands.

Reduce pollution: Pollution is a significant threat to flora and fauna. We can reduce pollution by using eco-friendly products, reducing the use of plastic, and properly disposing of waste.

Conserve water: Water is essential for the survival of plants and animals. We can conserve water by fixing leaky faucets, using water-efficient appliances, and reducing water usage.

Support sustainable agriculture: Agriculture practices such as monoculture and excessive use of pesticides can harm the environment. We can support sustainable agriculture by buying locally grown produce and supporting farmers who use sustainable practices.

Reduce carbon footprint: Climate change is a significant threat to flora and fauna. We can reduce our carbon footprint by using public transport, walking or cycling instead of driving, and reducing energy consumption at home.

Educate others: Educating others about the importance of flora and fauna conservation is crucial. We can raise awareness by sharing information on social media, volunteering at conservation organizations, and supporting conservation initiatives.

Day 3/365

Macro Monday - Cotton

These are face scrubbies that I crocheted. They are an eco friendly alternative to cotton pads for makeup removal. We are doing our best to avoid anything single use. HMM

365 weekly theme - Introduction:

I am a maker of various things. Mostly handmade greetings cards so expect to see some of those in my 365. I used to teach card making and scrapbooking to adults but now it's just a hobby.

I finally succumbed to joining the 365 today (my fourth). I managed a photo each day for three days and have set up a flat lay for tomorrow...piece of cake huh? ;)

Reasons for joining:

1. Eric www.flickr.com/photos/54515311@N00/ said I was crazy enough to do it.

2. On New Year's Day my osteopath posted on Instagram "Do something that scares you" Well, committing to a 365 is pretty scary!

3. I am hoping it will help with the return of my mojo

4. At least it's not a 366

5. I just want to do it

Icelandic Natural geothermal Power Station

In the heart of Puerto Nariño, Colombia, a haven within the Amazon, I had the privilege to photograph the Red-capped Cardinal (Paroaria gularis). This small, yet striking bird, with its vibrant red head set against a monochrome body, was a stark contrast to the lush green backdrop of its habitat. The way it perched, almost posing, amidst the natural environment highlighted the unique and captivating biodiversity of this region.

Capturing this image was a blend of timing, light, and the bird's natural grace. The cardinal's vivid colors required careful attention to exposure, ensuring that the vibrant reds and deep blacks were faithfully represented without overpowering the softer greens of the surroundings. This photograph is a celebration of the simple yet profound beauty found in nature, and as a photographer, it represents the continual pursuit of those fleeting moments where color, light, and subject align perfectly. It's a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural wonders and the stories they tell.

This Ferruginous Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum phalaenoides) is one of a pair that has been roosting in a bamboo patch a short distance from my house. Unfortunately there was a bush fire close to their patch and since then they seemed to have taken up residence elsewhere.

Every step, every heartbeat, every mindful breath—on Earth Day 2025, it all mattered just a little more. This glowing emblem, awarded to Apple Watch users who completed a workout on April 22nd, celebrates more than just movement. The sleek gold lines form the numbers "2025," wrapping around a radiant Earth at the center—a subtle reminder that our health and the planet’s health are deeply connected.

This badge isn’t just a digital trophy—it’s a symbol of action. A quiet high five from the Earth herself, saying thank you for moving with purpose, for showing up, for choosing to be part of something bigger. Whether it was a run through the woods, a yoga session under the sky, or a quick walk around the block—today, it counted.

Stretching across the calm waters of the Öresund Strait, the Øresund Bridge is more than steel and concrete—it is a symbol of Scandinavian unity and sustainable progress. Linking Malmö in Sweden with Copenhagen in Denmark, this 16-kilometer marvel combines road and rail, reducing travel time and fostering cross-border collaboration. Beneath the sweeping Nordic skies, it stands as a testament to engineering excellence and a shared vision for a greener future.

Fun Fact

The Øresund Bridge is part of a unique hybrid structure: a bridge, an artificial island (Peberholm), and a tunnel. This design was chosen to protect air traffic near Copenhagen Airport and preserve the delicate marine ecosystem.

Because of its unique folded texture, this "zigzag" or "crinkle" paper is primarily used as a filler for gift baskets, hampers, and boxes to both display and protect items

I think Flickr's sharpening, which is undoubtedly part of their resizing algorithm, causes some artifacts in particular cases, like slightly ragged diagonal lines as you can see here at low resolutions. Can't think of any other reason.

Common visitor to coastal Tobago. A lifer for me though.

White-chested Emerald in Kung Fu pose.

Captured at the Waka Hotel in Honda, Tolima, Colombia, this photo features the stunning Rufous-tailed Jacamar (Galbula ruficauda). The bird's vibrant metallic green upperparts and bright orange underparts stand out beautifully as it perches on a branch. The natural light and lush green backdrop enhance the vivid colors and fine details of the jacamar, making this image a perfect representation of the beauty found in Colombia's rich biodiversity.

From a photographer's perspective, this shot required patience and precision. The jacamar's rapid movements and the dense foliage presented challenges, but the result was worth it. I used a telephoto lens to capture the fine details of the bird's plumage while maintaining a respectful distance. The soft, diffused lighting conditions provided an ideal setting to highlight the bird's striking features without harsh shadows. This image is a testament to the rewards of perseverance in wildlife photography.

Saxåns Nature Reserve

Located in Skåne, Sweden of the Landskrona Municipality, the nationally designated areas inventory, also known as CDDA, began in 1995 under the CORINE programme of the European Commission.

It is now one of the agreed annual Eionet priority data flows maintained by the European Environment Agency.

The Saxåns Nature Reserve is used with the intention to protect fauna, flora, habitats and landscapes.

Did not find a photo of this on Flickr, so I thought I'd share.

These never-still birds normally have grass covering parts of their bodies. This day, for one second he was in the right position and I was at the right angle with no grasses in my view.

I sort of think she might have to wait 'til we're in Spain to wear this skirt.

Making Wood look good!

This is one of my favorite hats, and one of my signature "rockstar" items. Only very special pieces get my "rockstar" designation. These are items that I imagine would be worn by the lavish hedonistic rockstars of the romantic steam powered era, if there had ever been such a thing. So, if you've packed your steam-powered guitar and are heading out on a time-traveling trip, this is the cap to pack!

It just oozes charisma and neo-victorian rockstar elegance. Made from eco-friendly cotton canvas, this newsboy style hat is a dark olive green, and fully lined with black cotton. The hat is fitted with a super-comfortable elastic band on the inside brim, so the hat fits a wide range of adult heads. Made with ultra-durable construction, and a high quality brim.

This stunning hat is adorned with three striped natural brown cruelty-free pinion feathers. The feathers are accented at the base with a dark tea-colored braided rope applique and an antique star pendant. The decorated portion of the brim is made from a subtly fantastic diamond print ribbon in olive green and antique gold colors, with a slight metallic sheen. This ribbon is framed on the top and bottom with braided antique gold wire ribbon. The texture effect is really cool and gives the hat and added level of super-fantastic-awesomeness.

I am currently working on a line of steampunk style decorated newsboy hats. If you are interested in a custom creation of your very own, let's talk! I would love to hear your ideas!

The Woolwich Ferry chugs along the Thames with a cheerful hum, showcasing the new hybrid ship, the Dame Vera Lynn, on its southern side route. This eco-friendly beauty, with its sleek blue and white design, is a nod to London’s commitment to greener waters. As it glides past, you can almost hear the faint echo of wartime melodies, a playful tribute to the legendary singer it’s named after, bringing a bit of nostalgia to the modern skyline!

In the background, London’s skyscrapers pierce the cloudy sky, a stunning contrast to the sturdy ferry terminal. The Dame Vera Lynn seems to wink at the towering giants, as if to say, “I may be hybrid, but I’ve got soul!” Passengers onboard might just break into a spontaneous sing-along, imagining Vera’s voice carrying over the waves, while the city’s hustle-bustle adds a lively backdrop to this charming maritime scene.

With the new hybrid tech, this ferry is not just a ride but a gentle revolution on the river. The Dame Vera Lynn promises a smoother, quieter journey, letting you enjoy the view of London’s evolving skyline without the usual engine roar. It’s a delightful blend of history, innovation, and a touch of British whimsy—perfect for a scenic trip across the Thames!
