Well, I assume it's nice -- I don't really know anything about telescopes. There were a number of people there with some pretty nice looking telescope setups.

I made a quick, last-minute decision this morning to drive up to Gering, Nebraska to take in this morning's eclipse. I had requested the day off from work previously, but I wasn't sure if I would stay in Denver and take the eclipse in at 90% totality, or venture to Wyoming and Nebraska like everyone else.

While sitting and watching the morning news and enjoying my coffee, I saw that the weather was going to be nearly perfect in Nebraska and that the traffic headed to Wyoming was pretty bad...while...strangely enough...I-76 was moving right along. It was at this point that I decided to jump in the shower and head out.

When I got to Nebraska, I found that my camera's battery was nearly dead (ill prepared, I was)!!! Still, I set up at Northfield Park and Arboretum in Gering and waited it out.

When the eclipse hit totality, I popped off my lens cap, lined my camera up on the tripod, and snapped off a few shots. These two are part of that series. Aside from the birth of my children, I've never witnessed anything so amazing in my entire life. If you have the opportunity to drive a few hours and take in an eclipse in totality, I highly recommend it.

There will be another total eclipse in 2024. Between now and then, I must get either a 400mm+ telephoto lens or a telephoto extender for my 70-200 f/4 L. Also - I'm thinking solar filters for all of my lenses may be useful.
