The eclipsed moon, mars, stars and aircraft over Melbourne, Australia.

652 frames combined with StarStax and Photoshop.

This photo probably does not do justice to the unusual lighting conditions, but I'm not sure how I could improve it. I believe it was taken about 3 or 4 minutes before the maximum eclipse here in Ann Arbor. The camera was operating in aperture-priority mode set at f/9, so you can infer that the amount of light was rather low given that the camera chose ISO 3200 with an exposure of 1/15 of a second. It did seem like the squirrel held that position longer than I'd normally have expected.

The 2012 solar annular eclipse, as seen from near Kayenta, Arizona. The ring in the sky is the Sun.

This is a single exposure.

Even at maximum eclipse, the Sun was far too bright to view unprotected. It was, in fact, too bright to shoot with an unfiltered camera. I tried shooting it at ISO 100, f/45, 1/8000s, but it was still so blown out that the eclipse wasn't visible. Thus, the use of a filter.

In essence, this is a 12-stop grad-ND filter, better known as a piece of welder's glass held over half of the lens aperture.

(Edit: "annular" not "annual" -- stupid auto-correct)

Started out as a dud because it was cloudy and the clouds did get in the way several times. Taken at the Agana Overlook (Fort Apugan) next to the Governor's House. Thanks to Pete (duenasstreet) and Mike (mikesan69) and Sixto for hanging out with me to shoot my first lunar eclipse. See you all next year! ;-)

Penumbrae

BY JOHN UPDIKE

The shadows have their seasons, too.

The feathery web the budding maples

cast down upon the sullen lawn

bears but a faint relation to

high summer's umbrageous weight

and tunnellike continuum—

black leached from green, deep pools

wherein a globe of gnats revolves

as airy as an astrolabe.

The thinning shade of autumn is

an inherited Oriental,

red worn to pink, nap worn to thread.

Shadows on snow look blue. The skier,

exultant at the summit, sees his poles

elongate toward the valley: thus

each blade of grass projects another

opposite the sun, and in marshes

the mesh is infinite,

as the winged eclipse an eagle in flight

drags across the desert floor

is infinitesimal.

And shadows on water!—

the beech bough bent to the speckled lake

where silt motes flicker gold,

or the steel dock underslung

with a submarine that trembles,

its ladder stiffened by air.

And loveliest, because least looked-for,

gray on gray, the stripes

the pearl-white winter sun

hung low beneath the leafless wood

draws out from trunk to trunk across the road

like a stairway that does not rise.

Todays (20 Mar 15) Eclipse as seen from my garden. The best shots were just after the eclipse passed its peak and the clouds came in and acted as a natural filter!

© Mike Broome 2015

I left all my lenses at home except a 24-70mm. Shot taken with a 10-stop ND filter.

Taken this morning at Truro College with my little pinhole camera.

Varying results as always.

My friend and work colleague brought a box of Moon Pies into work today, 21 August 2017, the day of the total eclipse of the Sun. At first I thought that he brought them in because of the day, because it is Earth's moon that blocks the Sun's rays for the effect. Nope, total coincidence.

When all of the Moon Pies were taken, I saved the box in order to make this simple pinhole eclipse viewer! The black rectangle is the viewing port. The pinhole is in that small piece of aluminum foil in the middle of the bite on the product illustration. Not perfect but it worked well enough.

Shadows on the sidewalk during the eclipse.

Here is a collection of moon pictures of the night of the eclipse.

It was a difficult task going to sleep at just after 7 pm last night in order to wake up at 2 am this morning.

I stopped to get a warm coffee and we headed out of town to get a good view of the moon and the total lunar eclipse.

I managed to get about 10 frames in before the entire sky was engulfed in cloud cover.

Quite frustrating it is but we tried to make the best out of it and took some photos of each other to pass the time.

Now that I am home, I had the chance to work on them right away and post them before heading into work for the day.

Until next time Blood Moon.

At 162.5 metres (533 ft 2 in) long, Eclipse is the world's second largest private yacht, 17.3 metres (56 ft 9 in) shorter than Azzam, which was launched in April 2013. The yacht's cost has been estimated at €340 million.

2010 Dec 21 total lunar eclipse @ 8:16 UTC

I found this which reads "Eclipse of the Sun. October 19, 1865. Photograph by (cant read) Eureka, IL. Google verifies that eclipse that day. It also features on a 2 cent stamp, which was a Union Civil War revenue stamp enacted to generate revenue for the war effort. I've enhanced the image and darkened the writing to be able to read it on the image, it's pristine in it's original state, but darker.

Tonight's Eclipse - ok, so not quite as effective as the one seen in the US, but still great to see and photograph, being a partial allowed a great view of the sunspots and I rather liked the cloud moving across the sun...

Full composite, showing from the start at 19:40 when the partial eclipse began, the maximum coverage was at 20:06, the sun finally dropped down behind Dartmoor at 20:20 - a grand experience and well worth the effort...

OMG!!!!! I LOVE THIS PICTURE!!!!!!

Edward is killing me with his look in this picture!!!

While shooting yesterday I took a shot with my phone of an airplane taking off into the sun and got a flare of the eclipse.

Showing prominence at about 3:00.

Pictures of the lunar eclipse, Feb. 20th. This is not one frame with multiple exposures (I didn’t have tripod with me.) All 8 were taken separately and placed together in Photoshop. [8:38, 9:31, 9:46, 9:55, 10:14, 10:23, 10:40, 11:06] The last exposure is 1 stop over the rest.

Usei:

- Nail Hardener (Mavala Scientifique);

- Base nutriverniz pró-fortalecimento (Colorama);

- 2 mãos do Eclipse (Big Universo);

- Cobertura intensificadora da cor (Colorama).

Hta.
