It can be quite tricky to get full aircraft shots in museums. This is the unique technology demonstrator that led to the Eurofighter Typhoon

The British Aerospace EAP (standing for Experimental Aircraft Programme) was a British technology demonstrator aircraft developed by aviation company British Aerospace (BAe) as a private venture. It was designed to research technologies to be used for a future European combat aircraft, and eventually formed the basis for the multinational Eurofighter Typhoon.
The EAP has its roots within the earlier Agile Combat Aircraft (ACA), a collaborative initiative studying advanced technologies to produce more capable fighter aircraft. Upon the announcement of the EAP during October 1983, it was intended to be a multinational European effort; however, neither West Germany or Italy would ultimately contribute financially, thus the programme relied upon a combination of British public and private funding instead. Having been manufactured in sections across multiple facilities, the sole EAP aircraft (serial ZF534) was rolled out during April 1986. Performing its maiden flight on 8 August 1986, the EAP would fly over 250 sorties prior to its grounding on 1 May 1991, by which point the aircraft had fulfilled its intended purpose as a development aid.
During the second half of 1991, the Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering department of Loughborough University received the EAP aircraft, where it was used a static instructional aid in the teaching of Aeronautical Engineering students for many years. In early 2012, in response to a request from the Royal Air Force (RAF), the EAP was transported to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford; it has since been reassembled and put on public display in the museum's collection.
The British Aerospace EAP, for Experimental Aircraft Programme, was a mid-eighties technology demonstrator for what later became the Eurofighter Typhoon. I was going to build this model for the 2020 BFVA eXperimental Military collaboration. However, due to COVID-19 the event, which should taken place last weekend, was cancelled and I put on the back burner for a bit. I'm hoping I'll be able to display at next year's event.

What does E.A.P. means?
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore —
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the raven "Nevermore."

Superficially the EAP and the Eurofighter Typhoon are very similar, but on closer inspection there are a fair few differences. The Typhoon has a cockpit canopy that opens aft, similar to that of the F/A-18 Hornet. The EAP had a three-piece cockpit transparency, with the middle section hinged on the side. Unlike most of my aircraft models, this is minifig scale to fit with other models in the collaboration.

Another difference with the Typhoon is that the EAP had a cranked wing, whereas the Typhoon has a straight leading edge. EAP was typically displayed with 6 dummy missiles. Each outboard weapons station carried an ASRAAM and four BAe Skyflash missiles were mounted under the fuselage. These were British developments of the American AIM-7 Sparrow and were also used on F-4 Phantoms in British service and the Tornado F.3, as well as Swedish Viggen fighters.

The EAP's undercarriage also differs from that of Eurofighter. The latter has main wheels that fold inboard, much like on an F-4 Phantom. The EAP's fold forward to lie flat in the wing root/ outboard section of the lower fuselage. It all works on my model, although I do have to remove one of the forward Skyflash missiles to have enough room to open the door for the nosegear. The size and locations of the missiles made it all quite tricky.
The ASRAAM missiles were built using minifig candle parts, which is an idea by Corvin Stichert.
To save development costs, the EAP used a modified Tornado aft fuselage, including its RB199 engines and a vertical fin.
To fit with the styles of the other builders in the collaboration, I've gone for a (mostly) studless look. The wings were built using bricks on their sides and like those on the other aircraft models I've built for the collaboration, I added cheese slopes and curved slopes to the leading and trailing edges to make them less blunt.
The real aircraft was painted very light grey and there was a white stripe above the dark blue stripe that runs the length of the fuselage. I briefly considered building the model in grey too, but it is far too dark, so I opted for white instead.
