Ely Cathedral is located near Cambridge, England. I first visited it years ago and I immediately fell in love with it. It was first built as a chapel by an Anglo-Saxon Queen in the VII century (St Ethelreda)). It was made bigger by the Normans in the XIIth century, but to everyone‘a dismay, one of the splendid towers crumbled down. It had to be rebuilt and it was finally finished in the XIVth century.
It is huge. It size can only be seen with a photo taken by a drone, at a bird’s view. What impressed me the most were the towers, built in the Norman Romanesque style. I live in a country where there are hundreds of Romanesque chapels and churches, but most of them are of small to middle sized, and very austere. I don’t think there was enough money here to build such a grandiose building.

ebbene si:la locomotiva del gruppo 630,ha rappresentato per FNM e per le FNC(poi NC,ora gruppo DBS)una svolta rivoluzionaria nel parco trazione societario.dopo essere stata utilizzata intensivamente per parecchi anni dal ramo Cargo,via via veniva usata(legata a contratti tra le parti)dal ramo viaggiatori su rete sociale,al traino di variegate composizioni.nel 2010 l intero gruppo 630 composto da nove unità,venne venduto a prezzo "abbordabile"alla società ceca "RegioJet" per utilizzarle(previo revamping)su composizioni passeggeri in simmetrica.
il gruppo 630 voglio ricordarlo cosi,alla testa delle composizioni societarie come questa in foto detta "cammellata".l'ultimo 630 presente su rete sociale(già distolto dalla cargo)era lo 02,qui con il diretto per Laveno.

The guide said as I leaned out to take this a long way above the Octagon at the crossing of Ely Cathedral. You can just see people down there. We walked up 3 spiral stone staircases to reach this point. The guide explained the first stone tower collapsed so they rebuilt the top of the lantern tower in wood to be lighter. But the oak trees cut to support the tower are now 600 years old and the floor creaks a bit as you walk around up there. Fortunately they did some strengthening 200 years ago but then that wood is getting old too ... :)
