Based on Anne Holm's novel North to Freedom, I Am David chronicles the struggles of a 12-year-old boy (Ben Tibber) who manages to flee a Communist concentration camp through sheer will and determination. All he has in his possession is a loaf of bread, a letter to deliver to someone in Denmark and a compass to help get him there. Co-stars James Caviezel and Joan Plowright.

Uploaded for the weekly theme "It's a Colourful World" in The Flickr Lounge .
Photographed at Randfontein in South Africa.
Using the Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II MACRO 1:1 LD (IF) (model G005N II) lens.
I shoot full manual in Raw and edit in GIMP.
Critique is welcomed.
Thank you all very much for your visits, favs and comments.
My video machine started playing up. When checked out with the X ray camera I found a Gremlin in the works trying to screw things up.
Macro Mondays Rule of Thirds & 3 theme.
Yellow, red, blue and white poster boards surrounded this shot. Kind of fun to move the strobe around inside the cube to see the different color effects. WATER DROP TIP: Mix water with corn syrup to help shape and hang water drops.
M42 macro lens. Extension tube. Snooted Vivitar 285 at quarter power. F11.5 for the M42 lens.
Drops of olive oil in water covering a DVD (and another two similar shots in the Comments). Spectrum created by shining the bulb from an office angle-poise lamp sideways across the disc. I stirred the water to break up the bubbles a bit, hence the higher shutter speed.

It's been a while since I did this and I'd forgotten how much fun it is! So I may add a few more soon (there's another in the Comments).

SUGGESTION: Allow video to load all the way before you hit 'play'. You'll miss some neat animation if you don't.
I designed and animated these characters for the company I used to work for, Primal Screen, in 2006. It was for Primal's DVD Show Reel. This has won several design awards. I loved working on these guys. Loads of fun. I animated them in pencil and paper and then had the drawings scanned into Photoshop, composited together in After Effects, and outputted QT movies into Flash. There, animator Joe Kubesheski traced over my rough pencil animation to create the final look of the characters and their movements. He did some tweaking here and there, as well. Overall design and concept by Rick Newcomb. Sound design by Stephen Mank. He's the man.
I originally uploaded this on YouTube, but DANG. This looks much, much better. I'm impressed. I know that a lot of people are down on Flickr for adding videos, but hey, I'm okay with it if they can keep the quality of the videos looking like this.
More about this on the blog.

Years ago I found a few DVD's in the park. They were wet and had possibly been there all winter. The colours soon faded once I got them home.
Another little clear water drop on a DVD, with hand-held brightly flashing LED lights above giving the colours.
This Digital imaging Art is I created in 2006 at my home Los Angeles Altadena, using DVD and lights.
Friday night is alright for painting. Oh yeah!
I've been gazing longingly at Janet Rogers' recent article on portraits in American Artist magazine. I think I'm going to have to get one of her DVDs. This was inspired by her work ... but in the absence of really knowing how she does it!

Seems a long time since I photographed oil and water in a DVD spectrum (it was actually in January). Anyway, I took a few this evening so this is the first of those - I may add some more later.

Another year gone and my DVD Collection has been slightly re-organised although I might put it back to how it was before for next years photo. I was the first to notice only afterwards that some DVDs are out of place alphabetically soo will be correcting that for next years photo.
Anyway, find the titles below.
