The Dunk River Nature Trail makes for a great getaway. It's incredibly beautiful, green, and alive with bird song and the sounds of running water.
Dunk Island, known as Coonanglebah in the Warrgamay and Dyirbal languages, is an island within the locality of Dunk in the Cassowary Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It lies 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) off the Australian east coast, opposite the town of Mission Beach. The island forms part of the Family Islands National Park and is in the larger Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

Dunk Island is very famous for its Ulysses butterflies. The resort on the island was completely wrecked by Cyclones Yasi and Larry ten years or so ago and despite sale and repossession of the island in recent years and grandiose plans, no work has recommenced as yet. You can take a ferry to the island to explore during the day from Mission Beach. The attached Wikipedia article explains the island's history, geology, environment etc. Queensland has extraordinarily beautiful tropical islands but while they were at their peak for tourists in the late 20th century, many resorts have struggled after the development of mega-resort islands like Hamilton and niche islands for the mega rich like Lizard or Hayman etc. Cyclones have ravaged them to death.
This shot is taken from the main Mission Beach.
A gull acting like a dabbling duck, paddling on the incoming tide and dunking its head for passing treats
Started off very nicely… not looking so crash hot now!

A male Red-Breasted Merganser, one of several, found in the river at Canatara Park in Sarnia. This move of dunking his chest and raising his head is considered a “curtsey” to nearby females.
Well... This is one of the shots I took yesterday!
And if I wasn't sick yesterday, I sure am now... So sorry if the comments are a little on the short side!
I'll really try my best, but bear with me :)
I really love all your nice comments... Thank you sooo much!
The Green Pond Frog (Euphlyctis hexadactylus), Indian Pond frog, Five-Fingered Frog is seen to be enjoying the company of the duckweed.
Duckweed: Lemnoideae is a subfamily of flowering aquatic plants, known as duckweeds, water lentils, or water lenses. They float on or just beneath the surface of still or slow-moving bodies of fresh water and wetlands. These are the smallest flowering plants in the world and provide best camouflage and cover to the aquatic animals.
Last week at my local photography club was a practical night which found use taking pictures of various objects being thrown into a fish tank full of water. This was one of the shots that I took which I found rather pleasing.

Got a new toy. An underwater point and shoot. Had some fun playing around with it today - and thanks to Harley for getting wet ;)
As I was taking pictures from the Fishing Pier on June 13, 2024, 2:22 p.m., I saw these two bathers dunk themselves in the surf.

A wonderful sunset as the sun made its way past a low-level cloud, casting beautiful rays of light and shadow across the sky and basketball court.
An unfortunate misstep seen this competitor take a fall and a soaking. Undaunted he was quickly upright and storming to the finish line !
Taken for ODC theme "dunk" Who remembers the cookies that came with icing that you could dunk the cookies into? This is my homemade version. Macro shots are not kind to non-manicured hands. For a change I used my 60D for this shot today, much easier to do with the tilt screen. As always, thanks friends for you support and comments. Much love and happy weekend :)

A photo taken along the Dunk River on Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was a nice warm sunny winter day. With temperatures around -8 C and lots of sunshine, conditions were just about perfect for a hike along the river.

This blue-winged teal has dunked his head and brought up a load of water, which he spreads on his back.
I designed these shoes for a commission. Even though my client's final pair of shoes will be black and yellow, being short on classic yellow in my bins (and not wanting to wait for BL shipments!) I ended up using the colors seen above while building the Dunks, and liked the scheme enough to share them here!
Look on through the other images for more angles and more about the shoes' design.
