Antietam Battlefield. Sharpsburg, MD. Early evening.

The Dunker Church was built by a small community of German pacifists in 1852, upon whose farms the Battle of Antietam was fought. It was leveled by a storm in 1921 and rebuilt in 1962.

The church overlooked the bloody fighting in the Miller cornfield and the North and West Woods during the first phase of the battle.

Day two at the labor day lift off balloon event. This guy really dunked his basket!

Why does it has to be topless? Because I sweat!

A Great Egret dunks its head in the water to capture a fish.

Due to its small size, a Green heron usually wades in shallow water, but it can dive in deeper water for prey and its partially webbed toes assist it to swim gracefully and effectively to shore.

The Battle of Antietam, fought September 17, 1862, was one of the bloodiest battles in the history of this nation. Yet, one of the most noted landmarks on this great field of combat is a house of worship associated with peace and love. Indeed, the Dunker Church ranks as perhaps one of the most famous churches in American military history. This historic structure began as a humble country house of worship constructed by local Dunker farmers in 1852. It was Mr. Samuel Mumma, owner of the nearby farm that bears his name, who donated land in 1851 for the Dunkers to build their church. During its early history the congregation consisted of about half a dozen-farm families from the local area.
