The Statue of Liberty was meant for everyone.

He is a stain on history, an entity only the devil would admire. He is under qualified to pick up garbage and has only gotten his way through grifting and deceit. In every other reality, he is in a prison cell. He was never my president and I will never call him that. He has committed rape and treason and is now responsible for more deaths than the sum total of victims of every serial killer in American history combined. This fascist must go!

We cannot "heal" until every treasonous tyrant is held accountable. New information is coming out every day that this insurrection was far more violent than anyone realized with people having specific targets of congressional leaders as well as VP Mike Pence that they wanted to assassinate to re-install Trump in power. People may ask why impeach now? The answer is pretty clear:

"If a president is impeached, convicted, and removed from office, they lose many of the benefits awarded to former presidents, such as a pension, security detail, and travel allowance. A president who is removed from office via impeachment may also be barred from holding future office."

The violent white supremacists on Wed, should be held accountable as should every lawmaker who encouraged the incitement of violence. We cannot allow people who swore an oath to the constitution and refused to abide by that oath to continue to hold power and somehow represent Democracy. No, that will not stand, and no we will not heal without accountability.

I came back the next morning for a better picture but some trumper covered it all up with racist and hateful messages. I guess their itty bitty feelings were hurt.

Title taken from song by Sly and the Family Stone, 1968

"We are everyday people".

My protest against Donald Trump's racism & bigotry.

I've taken thousands of photos at protests over the past 4 years that I've never even posted but hopefully these won't be relevant anymore soon enough and that this dark period in American history will be over. REMEMBER TO VOTE! I just dropped off my ballot at a secure drop box in Chicago yesterday. If you live in Chicago, there are also a lot of judges on the ballot you have to vote to retain or not. It's really worth looking into every single one. I voted no for retention on at least half of them. We need to change every level of our systems in order to truly eradicate racism. Sometimes, longer lasting change starts from the ground up with the judges, the alderpeople, the mayors, the city council members...think deeply about this, friends.

Trump is doing a ton of horrific things against anyone who isn't white, male, heterosexual, able bodied, and extremely rich but one story that has been buried and continues to not get much attention is how lessening of USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) will enable more cruelty to animals and will thereby also increase many harmful hormones in our food as well. From soring or big licking horses to puppy mills, this administration doesn't really care how animals are treated. As a vegan who believes in both human rights and animal rights, I've always believed it says a great deal about a person if they are willing to cause pain and death to an animal when they don't have to. I'm not surprised that Donald Trump condones this sort of thing but it should still alarm many people who care about animals in this country. Here's some good information about what has been happening:

Here's an International Humane Society website link for actions in your area to stop animal cruelty:

Also, feel free to email me if you want some vegan advice/recipes. I have been vegan for only a year and a half but I don't regret it at all. I've been vegetarian now for well over 20 years.

I believe the children are our future...teach them well and let them lead the way to the White House.

When we vote in this election, we have to realize we are not voting for ourselves. We are voting for a better world for generations to come. Do we want a country led by a criminal who talks about putting women in front of firing squads? Do we want a reality with no body autonomy filled with harm? Or do we want a leader who lets everyone share their view without inciting violence? A person who makes space for all humans and perspectives?

As seen at the rally held at the New York City Public Library, 15 January 2017.

We spoke out. We marched at a time when we didn’t know if it would kill us and it was all because we couldn’t imagine that we could continue to live in a world so cruel as to not see the value in Black joy, talent, ideas, sorrow, stories, traditions, and identities. And, in most cities across America, budgets have not significantly changed to put more money into communities instead of policing. The only tool a cop has is a gun and the badge is his/her/their get out of jail free card. Why do we expect anything different to happen in America if we pour more money into police budgets and reforms that clearly don’t work instead of putting money into public education, job opportunities, the elimination of food deserts, equitable housing and health care, and mental health clinics? Do we really want to be a country where only rich white people survive?

Black Lives Still Matter…they still matter to me every day.

In my own city, our mayor lied about not being aware of a wrongful raid of a social worker in which her home was violated and she was naked. (Anjanette Young). Apparently, this is a pretty regular occurrence:

chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/11/08/chicago-police-raids-wron...

Here’s a list of men who are Black recently murdered by police in America:

newsone.com/playlist/black-men-boy-who-were-killed-by-pol...

Here’s how Wall Street profits from police brutality and America’s violent yet lucrative (for some) tradition of white supremacy:

acrecampaigns.org/research_post/police-brutality-bonds/

Every day we don’t demand change is a day wasted when we were not our best selves. Humans are still dying out there and we need to vote out those who only protect some of the population and leave the rest to be murdered. So, Trump will soon be gone…will Biden be any better? We must insist that it is so! Humans who are Black are not suddenly white and they still need kindness, protection, love, and policies that look out for them.

Sorry for the run-on sentence but that's how I feel about our current situation...a run-on presidency.

She's right...democracy shouldn't work that way. The people keep speaking but the politicians aren't listening.

We all breathe the air from the same spacious skies.

We all eat from the amber waves of grain and the luscious fruit of the plain.

The purple mountain majesties are for everyone to behold.

God, if you do exist, shed your grace on us.

We are all Americans and we want love, peace, and the ability to be safe and free.

From sea to shining sea.

The America I love and believe in is a welcoming home to everyone.

We the People stand up for ALL people.

A little humor always helps. I also loved the sign the woman is holding next to her which reads, "I Am Not Free When Any Woman is Unfree"

We must not let race, economics, or religion separate us! We must be in this movement together!

Those who think that Kamala is no better than Trump should still continue to push her towards a ceasefire and not funding warfare as the Biden administration is guilty of. However, we spent 4 years under Trump with Muslim bans, extreme ICE raids, children in cages, and constant paranoia and, with his recent racist statements regarding Haitian immigrants eating the pet dogs of people, this is not likely to change. The people of this country need unity, not someone who will continue to sow the seeds of despair, distrust, and incite violence.

The following was written on 2/19/2017 when this photo was originally upload, less we all forget the damage Trump did to many marginalized communities in America time and time again:

This title was taken from a brilliant Anthony Doerr novel about a girl who is blind and hiding during the Holocaust. Doerr is a great author and very inspiring. I have really loved how the Jewish and Muslim communities have come together in the face of hate crimes caused by fascist Trump. Each community will raise money for the other's destroyed mosque or synagogue which is a really beautiful thing.

Our dictator in chief keeps ordering Immigrant Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to round up people even if they are just looking "suspicious" What does that mean exactly? Maybe it is a sombrero or a hijab and that's all it takes now. Why have any evidence behind your racism? And also, this idea that the "dreamers" or immigrant children are spared while their parents are taken away...who thinks this is a good idea? Who will help raise these poor children?

In the meantime, Melania Trump and Donald Trump's security is costing tax payers millions..I'd prefer my money going to harmless refugees instead of a fascist who is hell bent on destroying every major tenant this country was founded on.

We cannot, as ethical citizens ,refuse to see this light of children regardless of race and religion or country of origin. Trump is not making America great. If we want to see a country that truly lives up to the inscription on the Statue of Liberty, we need to continue to take to the streets. Right now, when Americans go to sleep, Lady Liberty weeps tears of blood.

Sorry I need to catch up. I've been crying a lot this week. What a nightmare this presidency already has been. Please, people, keep speaking out against it. Don't let this become the new normal.

Today, I went to the Women's March in Chicago, which had over 250,000 people. (I brought all my friends) .

Today, I also took 5,300 photos. Coincidence? Probably not. I just got home and started going through them. Here's one of the first ones I have found from today.

I am alarmed when I read around 40 % of Americans support this Muslim ban...though, I am also skeptical of media but in the opposite way of Donald Trump. I think they are trying to cater to him in some ways, though some outlets more than others.

Regardless, there are still very hateful people in my country that are being encouraged to express their views instead of fight the ignorance that has led to their beliefs and actually have conversations with those who are different from them. It's difficult not to be devastated when you see potential being destroyed so ruthlessly.

I went to another protest last night regarding Betsy DeVos...if she has her way, no doubt that kids with disabilities won't have a quality education and that public schools might completely shut down. People are unaware of the complete danger here in so many ways. We have become a society that gives in to the billionaire's distraction of hating the poor and minorities and refusing to prepare them for the future. It's shameful.

Part of the crowd at O'Hare last night, protesting fascism and expressing our love for refugees and freedom of religion.

Our dictator in chief has done a few things this week...tried to silence media and scientists, harm the environment, generally continued to treat facts as fantasy and his own opinions as facts, reduced funding for countries with pro choice family planning options, severely limited immigration, threatened to build a wall, started to dismantle our health care system.

Pretty much, the billionaires don't care about the poor and somehow there are still people who voted for him that didn't see this coming. We have a Putin backed Oligarchy in the white house right now and they don't care about public education, the rights of people with disabilities, or the rights pretty much of anyone who isn't a white rich man.

Goldman Sachs and the conservative agenda is running our country and the world. In the midst of this, Trump announced that he might send in the Feds to Chicago to get our violence problem under control....or does he mean his protest problem?

It'll only be a matter of time before this horror becomes the new normal and our ADHD ridden world seems to forget from day to day the savagery wreaked upon them.

I realize that I am behind yet again and your art is all important to me. After going to a protest yesterday at noon in Chicago, I went to see Hidden Figures at Logan Theater in Logan Square. I had just paid and found my seat when I heard about the protest against Trump's anti-Muslim ban at O'Hare airport and decided to leave, even though I didn't have my camera with me and don't live in that area. My friend Joshua Mellin posted some amazing photos to his Flickr site here: www.flickr.com/photos/joshuamellin/ and I posted a photo and a few videos to my Instagram account here: www.instagram.com/kirstiecat_photo/ There's another protest happening at Terminal Five at O'Hare Airport at 6pm as Trump continues to defy all other government branches, act like a fascist, and appoint a white supremacist with Steven Bannon. If you are an American and you don't stand up to this , shame on you. It doesn't matter what race you are. We are all accountable for making sure our leaders follow the Constitution and adhere to Democracy vs. fascism.

I like to carry a disposable camera in my glove compartment, or sled bag or pocket. I typically use them only when I don’t have another option, or sometimes for a certain (or more likely, uncertain) effect I’ve come to expect. I know, I know, that’s what phone cameras are for, right? But I hate the precision or something about them, or the annoying ubiquity. Plus, my archaic phone dies in the cold and has a really crappy camera (which sometimes I actually like). Anyway, the disposable camera often sits around or gets forgotten for months on end, which is another benefit, when I get the film back from the lab it’s always a surprise to see what I photographed that I typically forgot all about. I guess too seeing them altogether like this give a glimpse of some of what I’m about.
