When I first saw these ducklings last week (when I didn't have my camera) there were 10. Today only 9. I was sorry I didn't take my zoom lens but this is a sweet shot of them all lined up.
The parents were really showing them off and brought them to the bank but in my excitement my camera wasn't focusing well so a lot were deleted - they don't stay still!
There are new Mallard ducklings at the pond. ♥
They are so cute and fluffy that is almost a pity that they grow up so fast; it only takes them 50-60 days to fledge and become independent.

"The Ugly Duckling" is a Danish literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875). It was first published on 11 November 1843. This is the tale: www.worldstory.net/en/stories/the_ugly_duckling.html
This duckling (youngster) was wandering around between the geese on the lake. He looked so miserable there, maybe he'll be reunited with his family soon. (He’s not ugly, he’s cute!) We can't touch or grab the birds in the park. When I was going to post the photo on Flickr I remembered this tale from my childhood.

Thanks for the many fine comments about my donkey set. I'll be opening more pictures so if you ever want more sweetness and gentleness there will be more pictures there for you :-)))
This pose by the duckling with the cocked head made me think of a person who is pondering a question.. Taken at Commonwealth Lake yesterday morning.
