(Cairina moschata). These ducklings were very cute. The blonde one with the light coloured beak was definitely the bold one!

"The Ugly Duckling" is a Danish literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875). It was first published on 11 November 1843. This is the tale: www.worldstory.net/en/stories/the_ugly_duckling.html
This duckling (youngster) was wandering around between the geese on the lake. He looked so miserable there, maybe he'll be reunited with his family soon. (He’s not ugly, he’s cute!) We can't touch or grab the birds in the park. When I was going to post the photo on Flickr I remembered this tale from my childhood.
One of a flourish of ducklings enjoying the sunshine at Roma Street Parklands today. This one was doing a good job of 'standing up' ... if you could call it that.
Taken on a grey day on the Isle of Mull. The duckling seems to have found itself a small crustacean to snack on.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Hard to find anything much sweeter than this duckling, swimming and doing little duckling quacks.
Sweet, but sad, I think. This duckling was swimming alone. Its little duck-paddling feet took it all over the NW corner of the lake. There were no other ducklings around, and not a single adult duck of any kind, anywhere on that part of the lake. This one just keep paddling around...looking, and calling.
As with so many things in nature, we'll never know how it turns out. May be fine...may not be. In the mean time, it does make for a definitively sweet portrait.
