An old fashioned metal accordian grille protects the big glass wall at the Hotaru Japanese Restaurant on Gouger Street, Adelaide. Being early, the place is still shut and the morning sun plays with complex shadows on the white tablecloth while the glass window adds a reflective layer.

Some repetition on connectivism: Chaos is a new reality for knowledge workers. ScienceWeek (2004) quotes Nigel Calder's definition that chaos is “a cryptic form of order”. Chaos is the breakdown of predictability, evidenced in complicated arrangements that initially defy order. Unlike constructivism, which states that learners attempt to foster understanding by meaning making tasks, chaos states that the meaning exists – the learner's challenge is to recognize the patterns which appear to be hidden. Meaning-making and forming connections between specialized communities are important activities. (Siemens, 2004)

Picking up one idea of each of the #LAK11 PiratePads - Day 1: ...need for an integrative theory of culture and sociotechnical interactions...

Day 2: ...overwhelming, like LAK11...

The overwhelming feeling rises from the fact in the beginning - that we need integrative theories that have nothing to do with the kind we already know. While we begin to create, construct and reconstruct, we must get rid of the old pipe that disables us. The smashing phase can at times mean quite unpleasant and very lonely work.

Focusing on courage helps. After three years I feel that what's been experienced was necessary - and one's the misleading pipe is gone, I'll never let a new one be built up again.

"Being an ethical leader means being a role model." I'm very grateful for the role models the persistent deepening of networks keeps introducing to me - lots of encouragement to continue the work with weak links.

It is about time I made a picture again. Last weeks have been crazy busy. Hope this ends soon...

Went for a chilly walk this morning and came across this walkway. There are several repeating patterns...The pillars, the trellis, the bricks, the lines in the benches....worked for me.

Bloody hell - 1st of March. I can't believe it!!

Today has been an interesting day. We started off by going to see a house this morning which was ok, but made us decide to it is worth trying to put a cheeky offer in on the other one we like. I started off with a really low one just to test the waters. They then came back to me with the price the vendor would like. I waited a couple of hours then went back with a price a bit more than my first offer but still quite a bit less than they want. It is all very Kirsty & Phil - although I don't quite think my negotiation skills are up to their level just yet!

Forgot my memory (oh, the irony!) card again today, but thought I'd give my puny old 2 mega pixie phone camera a go. Y'know, with a little bit of post processing I think the photos from it don't look too bad considering! Might even do a week-long phone camera mata-theme, just for a bit of variety. After all, I still have 236 more days to go!

Another shot from the Palm Pre camera phone. I used only the 'Instant' border on this one, but it's SOOC otherwise. I think the colour is actually not bad considering it's a camera phone and I was under the charming fluorescent lighting in Dollarama.

Oh dear - my @dailyshoot's seem to be becoming a bit alcohol related : P

(a bit fuzzy as well, low light, wrong ISO, hand held - honest!!)

This is a close-up of a young rose leaf (so young, it has very little green pigment). I used it as my model for today's Daily Shoot challenge:

Most repeating patterns that I see are man-made, but I wanted to use something natural. The leaf edge, and maybe the vein structure too, fit the bill for me.

The leaf is lit by a lightbox used for viewing slides. Processed in Lightroom with a smidge of cleanup in Photoshop.

There's a repeating pattern on the body of each of these LED torches. They were the LED torches I used to light the Diversity of Colours shot from yesterday.

Late home from work, wandering around the dimly lit neighbourhood looking for some pattern. Thought these chairs stacked in a coffee shop looked cool, less impressed when playing with it later in lightroom. Fiddled with lots of stuff to make the photo look not terrible, not fussed with the result.

The TrashTalkTuesday flickr group is pushing me to move beyond the subjects I usually prefer to shoot. I noticed a pile of discarded guard rails and drainage pipes in an area near my home that's about to be developed as a new roundabout intersection. This pipe reminded me of a robot's sleeve. I like the repeating folds in material that normally isn't folded.

I used the Spicify preset in the Topaz Adjust 4 plugin for Photoshop on its own layer and then lowered the opacity so it didn't look so over-the-top.

Have a look at the other pics from this shoot:
