I had a couple of visions in my head; this was the most feasible given that the day seems to slip away faster each day. So today we have falling candy corns for the fall season.

The motion is in the swirl of milk, and the potential energy is in the caffeine. After I drink it and (potentially) move.

Obviously I chose to communicate motion by freezing it. I have tried similar shots before and they've never worked. I realized that this is because I didn't have any lighting equipment. I wanted to quickly get this shot done before bed. I decided, against my friend Sean's advice (who says that the on board flash is useless), to actually try the on board flash to get the effect I wanted. I am hoping he'll be proud of me for actually using some sort of artificial light to get the effect I was looking for, even if it's not the ideal source!
The shot was taken in an almost completely dark room at 1/200th. I put the camera on the tripod, set it to take ten shots on the timer, and got into position to pour the cereal. The camera did its flash magic. The result isn't perfect - there's a few things I would change if I re-shot it (a larger kitchen would be in there so I had more positioning options!). The bowl isn't in perfect focus because I was more worried about the flakes. But this one was a stretch for me as far as a new-to-me technique, so I'll let it stand!

Rushed this one, left ISO a little high by accident.

yesterday my *new*BGC* >whoo-hoo< came in the mail (<- that's another story). feeling a tad intimidated, i put in fresh batteries and went out shooting all over town. ergo, this pic is only about 15 hours old and i'm gonna use it, so i can go out early early and see what else i can find to photograph = play. (10/24/10)

A five hour drive home from Windsor gave me lots of opportunities to capture motion blur. (No, I wasn't driving!) As different as the shots are, the one thing they have in common is the warm golden hue of a late October afternoon.

One of a number of pelican flight shots this morning...no blur here, but there's no doubt of motion...unless you think this bird is attached by string as a marionette or we live in a world without gravity! :) 3rd Ave N & Gulf of Mexico

Nothing much moving today... Imagination least of all! Looking at this, I realized that rather than motion, it makes me think more of the sound actually.

wanted to try to do something without motion blur, but didn't come up with anything that worked.
the daily shoot
My two kids found a thin stream of water pouring off the roof on a rainy day at an apple farm. They took turns standing under the stream, and laughing at each other as the water bounced off their heads in crazy directions.
It's rare that my kids are a still photography subject, so there is personal irony for me in this picture (the assignment is to communicate motion, and my kids who are usually always in motion, were actually taking turns standing still... hunh???).

He wasn't moving at this moment, but he didn't hold still for long. They rarely do!
So, I remind the viewer of the moving squirrel with a picture of a motonless one.

I tried to freeze a shot but it was getting dark and this was the best attempt. Not a great shot but decided to post it anyway instead of a shot with definite blur.
Yup, everything out of focus. Try capturing a whirlwind in the leaves. We had a fun walk!
