This shot reminds me of a proud drummer sitting in front of a new huge percussion set. The squirrels develop their winter pelt now. It's already visible with the growing tufts, but also by longer, darker/grey and more dense hair (Squirrels-2019-3614.jpg)

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions,
perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
Let him step to the music which he hears,
however measured or far away."

I loved how happy and into the moment she was. I think it will be people like her that will be our unlikely heroes if we are to successfully navigate our future. I love my country, but am very disappointed in what we have become and am very discouraged at the direction we are heading in. Happy Birthday to the US, sure, but I don't see much to celebrate.
Have a wonderful Tuesday.
Emotional day on booking a place at Wembley next Sunday. This fella had been drumming for 120+ minutes in the heat in what was an emotion win.

Arunta perulata
Family: Cicadidae
Order: Hemiptera
This species prefers forested marshy ground and this individual was observed at Bingi in New South Wales, close to the edge of a brackish lake: Kelly's Lake. The ground around was moist and it was seen on the branches of the predominant tree species in the area; a she-oak (Cassuarina sp.).
The white areas on the abdomen are covers for the tymbals (the sound-producing mechanism). The covers are said to amplify the sound of the tymbals, though I haven't seen an explanation for the mechanism involved.
The image is a focus stack of 5 hand-held photos taken with ambient light.

Photographed last week in the Heathcote National Park, New South Wales, Australia. I think it's at its teneral stage, when it has recently moulted and its exoskeleton is yet to harden and get its final colouration. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
