When we moved to southern Connecticut, New London was having a hard time. There were a lot of empty buildings on its main street, but also several cool murals around town. Maybe they gave someone the idea to add some cool art to the boarded up windows on the Bank Street building above. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an artist name or signature. From a quick online search, it looks like the building is till there, still empty, and still for sale - but with some of the window panels moved and missing. Just for info, this building is a couple doors down from the Hollywood murals I posted a while ago:

I just read this quote in a book I am reading by Abbi Glines, and broke out in tears. The book is called Existence and the reason I am reading it is because I liked a series of hers, so decided to read all of her books. Seeing this quote, along with the context of the scene in the book, broke my heart, and made me smile....

ASHEVILLE NC: One of the funky stores in the downtown area that supports the the city's unofficial slogan: KEEP ASHEVILLE WEIRD. I've not been inside this store but it looks [judging by the posters] like it focuses on material that steps out of the mainstream. I believe the genres include punk, metal, noise, and indie rock. Your choices don't end there. Take your pick: CD's [their punctuation], vinyl, tapes, new and used.

Sorry folks, no Guy Lombardo, Wayne Newton, Kate Smith, Al Jolson, The Lennon Sisters, Frankie Yankowic's Polka Band, or Yanni. OK, maybe they have a few Yannis at the bottom of the 50 cent bin, so take a look.

Well, that's it for the good news. Now, the bad news. They are no longer here, out of business. But, I googled Green Eggs & Jam and found a store by that name just around the corner up in Boone.

PLEASE Will the first person who gets to the Boone store please give it a rating [5* = Great; 0* = Don't Bother]. And let me know how much you want for your Yanni purchases.

Year Thirteen Of My 365 Project

i had to do an errand

had to pick a peck of snide

in a dark and gloomy snide field

that was almost 9 miles wide

i said i do not fear those pants

with nobody inside them

i said and said and said those words

i said them, but i lied them

and there i was caught in the snide

and in that dreadful place

those spooky empty pants and i

were standing face to face

i yelled for help, i screamed, i shrieked

i howled, i yowled, i cried.

oh save me from those pale green pants

with nobody inside them.

but then a strange thing happened

why those pants began to cry

those pants began to tremble

they were just as scared as i

i never heard such whimpering

and i began to see

that i was just as strange to them

as they were strange to me.

i put my arm around their waist

and sat right down beside them

i calmed them down

poor empty pants

with nobody inside them

and now we meet quite often

those empty pants and i

and we never shake or tremble

we both smile and we say

hi

I had an internal battle cos FGR was painted on faces. And not everyone is as brilliant as Joel and can incorporate the two.

So being that I have a closet chock full of primarily stripes - meh. Easy Cheese.

I have soooo much to do, so although I'd love to stay and babble on for hours - my house simply refuses to clean itself. So dang it.

Random Fact de jour: I utterly adore Dr. Seuss, and I lived for Cat in the Hat. Though, secretly, I always sided with the fish.

I'm sort of anal retentive about a messy house.

Even as a kid.

The twin's Halloween outfits this year were "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" from Dr. Seuss (all thought up by Becky, my wife). Of course, Abigail was "Thing 1" since she was "Baby A" and Ethan was "Thing 2". The outfits were homemade (the best kind). :)

Audrey is turning two tomorrow. My folks sent her this awesome chair. We let her open it early because we were already on a video chat with them -- it was fun. Clearly she loves it... thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Favors were kites, wrapped in coordinating wrapping paper and included the child's first initial. Each had a copy of the page where Thing 1 and Thing 2 run through the house with their kites.
