At the beginning of the seventies General Motors stared work on a project coded T Car programme this was their first world car project to develop a platform which its subsidiary car divisions could use. Vauxhall joined in this project in 1971 and commenced design work on the XP project in February 1972 this is believed to be six months ahead of Opel. The XP project became the Vauxhall Chevette which was launched at the Geneva motor show in March 1975 and went on sale on 2nd May 1975. The Chevette was offered as a three door hatchback with a four door saloon, and a three door estate versions following a year later. The Chevette was smaller than the Viva and was powered by the same 1.3-litre 4-cylinder 1256 cc petrol engine. Production of the Chevette commenced at Ellesmere Port in February 1975, with the first completed on 10th February 1975.
The Opel version of the GM T Car programme was the Kadett, which was offered as a saloon, estate, hatchback and coupe. The Kadett had a wider range of engine options than the Vauxhall Chevette, and had a better interior. Both the Opel Kadett and Vauxhall Chevette looked identical apart from headlights and interior. Both Opel and Vauxhall had worked together on the new models as a joint project, Opel were responsible for the designs, with the exception of the three door hatchback which Vauxhall designed and Opel copied. Vauxhall also restyled the front of the Chevette to distinguish it from the Opel Kadett which would be sold in the UK. The Chevette sold better in the UK than the Kadett did.
In 1978, Vauxhall decided that they wanted compete in the international rallying scene and developed a high performance version of the Chevette which was sold as a road going car to the public as the Chevette 2300 HS model powered by a 2.3-litre 16 valve petrol engine producing 153bhp driving through a close ratio five-speed gearbox. For rally homologation requirements 400 road going cars had to be built, it is believed all 400 2300 HS cars built were silver. A more potent limited edition version was introduced in 1980 the Chevette HSR. Production of both models ceased in 1981. Production of the Chevette ceased on 28th March 1984 after 415,630 had been built at Ellesmere Port, with CKD models assembled in New Zealand.
Notes: The first customer to receive a Chevette in 1975 was driving instructor Fred Hordswoth.
A red hatchback Vauxhall Chevette appeared in The Likely Lads film which was made two years after the Television series had ended, which Bob Ferris (Rodney Bewes) drove and towed a caravan may I add! In the Television series Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, Bob drove a Vauxhall Viva. The film made by EMI and released in 1976, was shot on location in Tyneside unlike the Television service which was shot in London.
I to, many years ago owned a hatchback Chevette L, which I bought in 1984 from Dobies the Vauxhall dealer in West Cumbria who had the main dealership in Ellenborough in Maryport before it moved to Lillyhall near Workington. The car was three years old with 40,000 miles, I paid £1800 for it and had nothing but trouble with it and I traded it in after 10 months.

The Cortina was launched just ahead of the 1962 London Motor Show, under the project name Archbishop, as either a 1198 cc or 1499 cc as a two or four door saloon or five door estate and the more sporting 1499 cc GT or the Lotus Cortina of 1600 cc Twin Cam.
The Cortina was designed to be economical, cheap to run and easy and inexpensive to produce in Britain. Originally to be called Ford Consul 225, the car was launched as the Consul Cortina until a modest facelift in 1964, The base model was supplied with a simple body coloured front grille, though this version cost almost the same as the better equipped chrome grilled Deluxe it sold poorly and there a few survivors.
The Cortina was given a mild facelift, unveiled at the October 1964 London Motorshow, the big announcement was the improved airflow system update cars have a wider grille and a vent on the C pillar, and were now known simply as Cortina rather than the models original full title of Consul Cortina .

This car was presented new, to its current owner Mr. Peter Jeffery of Leicester, at the old Crystal Palace Motor Racing circuit, a prize in the RAC driving instructor of the year, Peter has the unique record of winning the competition on three occasions 1966 as learner driver of the year and in 1973 and 1976 as Instructor of the year. In 1966 finalist had to qualify for the final via sixteen preliminary rounds. The 96 finalist then had to cover a 12 mile road section, and various manoeuvring tests at Crystal Palace. 0pr the 1976 final Peters former pupil David Wright was awarded a prize of a new Leyland Allegro

Typically a police instructor would supervise three pupils, who took turns at the wheel during drives across the region. In this case they appear to have arrived at what seems to be the seaside in time to open their flasks of tea.
The Manchester and Salford force existed between 1968 and 1974.

it took a while to explain the law on photography in public, but he seemed to think the problem was mine and not his for such poor parking, while waiting to pick up a teen student, who this guy thinks he can teach to park, and drive!

Being a guy the speeding vehicles often catch my fantasies. I was eagerly waiting to learn driving lessons but time was not able to take out the time now I cannot wait further. I had managed my time to join driving school. So,finally looking for the driving lessons instructors in Australia.
I had contacted various driving schools but their classes timings are not flexible. They do not offer any assistance in getting the license after the completion of training session and also charging hefty amount. I was in a state of utter confusion until my friend suggested me for the Australian School of Motoring.
Their services includes Practical Training,Log Book Training & Overseas conversions,all the instructors have policy clearance having membership of ADTA or PDTA. They offer so friendly services as they picked me from the school whenever I call them for the drivers test.
The driving school instructors accessed my previous license and the level of Knowledge I have of the Australian roads. Then the instructor has taken me the quiet area where he replaced his seat with mine. I got a mix of feelings,i was quite excited to drive for the first time but it made me a bit nervous inside.
The instructor followed very systematic methodology as he recorded the hours in Log Book after the completion of each session. Then only he booked me for the next session. These lessons were either for 60 minutes or 90 minutes. The driving school charge on the hourly basis. They charged me $ 65 whenever I learn for 60 minutes and they charged me $ 90 whenever I learned for 90 minutes.
A.S.M has been providing driving lessons for more than 30 years. Their instructors available in the city of Adelaide, the surrounding suburbs and Adelaide Hills as per the convenience. They provided me with practical testing, log book and overseas conversion. Their instructors are friendly, professional drivers with many years experience, gave me the assurance that I’m in safe hands.
