The Lady Fenella carving overlooks Fenella beach and on this day someone decided she needed a little help. She has a hairdo of seaweed and a colourful drinking bottle, presumably for water but you never know given the hairdo!
ANDRE LEDUCQ was a French cyclist and a good one! Riding for the famous and powerful Alcyon-team he becomes second in the Tour of 1928 and 11th in 1929. Riding in the national team he becomes 10th in 1931. In 1930 and 1932 he wins the Tour, undeniably the highlights of his cycling career.
In his Tour career (1927-1938) Leducq won 25 stages, a record that was eventually improved by Eddy Merckx in 1974.

The favorites for the overall victory were all former Tour winners: Octave Lapize, François Faber, Louis Trousselier and Lucien Petit-Breton. But they didn't make it to the end for various reasons. Gustave Garrigou won the first stage and was once again in the lead of the standings after winning the 4th stage. After PAUL DUBOC won the 8th and 9th stage, it looked like it would only be a matter of time before he replaced Garrigou as leader. However, disaster struck for Duboc when he was struck by a mysterious food poisoning and he was ridden at a great distance by Garrigou. It was never found who had tampered with Duboc's food. Nevertheless, he was able to secure a second place in the standings.
Paul Duboc won two more stages in the 1911 Tour.
Duboc (1884-1941) was a real Tour rider. In 1908 he finished 8th and in 1909 4th with three stage wins. In 1914 he became 31st. Like many others, his career was interrupted by the Great War. He returned to the Tour three more times, finishing each time: 1919 (8th but disqualified), 1923 (18th) and 1926 (27th).

There must have been thousands of these bottles used throughout the day. The local kids were having a whale of a time collecting them up. Don`t know how some of them managed to get them home!!!
Imagine being able to touch the smooth gray sun-warmed section of pipe with your bare hands, like I did. You are jealous!
I was so attracted to the pipe, I did not even notice the pale green paint on the brick wall.
