Pathfinder's "Chester Christmas Explorer" with the taps wide open, passing Warrington Bank Quay. The clouds were really quite dramatic overhead and the sun was just peaking out behind the large industrial buildings to the right of the shot. Made for some interesting lighting.

Dramatic light at Parys Mountain windmill as heavy rainclouds roll in.

The tower close to the top of Parys Mountain is a windmill formerly used for pumping water from the copper mines below. It was built in 1878 to assist a steam engine with pumping and winding at Cairns shaft some 200 feet away, and was unique in Anglesey in having five sails.

Last night's sky was probably one of the best that I have seen for a long time. There was a thunderstorm warning over Aurora around 6 pm. I was closely tracking the storm and keeping an eye on the sky anticipating that there might be a dramatic sunset tonight. As the storm did not come our way and passed over St Charles as per Accuweather, I told my wife lets get the kids a shower and head out as we might see some wonderful colors. We jumped into the car and headed west towards Oswego. I was going a little too fast so that I can reach a good spot to get a decent view of the sunset, thinking this would be an ideal sky to shoot a barn. I was scouting for an interesting foreground as I love to see foreground objects as part of landscape photography. I do not find myself successful in finding more often than not. As time was running out and the sky colors started changing I took the Grove road and headed towards the open field beside the pottery barn and tearoom. I parked the car and had the kids enjoy their Barbie Princess DVD inside the car and made my car the foreground to shoot this beautiful sky. Now that when I am looking at the picture, I think it could be a very good Billboard shot for a Honda Pilot :)

94/365: Badlands.

Stopped by the Cheltenham Badlands on the way home from work again, I very much enjoy visiting this place. The old side trail is closed due to erosion, but you can still get a downhill view by following the road downhill. My D800 hasn't arrived yet, so here we have another 9 exposure HDR image proving that my 7 year old DSLR can still kick out a great image.

Looked like a storm coming

This is a photograph from finish of the fourth annual running of the AON Mullingar Half Marathon which was held on Saturday 17th March 2019 (St. Patrick's Day Lá Fhéile Pádraig 2018) in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland at 10:30. This photograph was taken at at the 13 mile mark in the home straight within Mullingar Town Park. Following on from the incredible success of the first three years of the race this year the total numbers participating rose from just under 600 in 2015, 900 in 2016, over 1200 in 2017 and yet again over 1200 this year. Proceeds raised by the AON Mullingar Half Marathon will go directly to T.E.A.M (Temporary Emergency Accommodation Midlands) finding safe & secure accommodation for homeless women and children. The roots of the successs of the event last year was the excellent organisation and a very flat and fast route. All of these characteristics were repeated this year except for the weather. This was a bitterly cold day with air temperatures struggling to get above 4C and a severe wind chill from an easterly breeze making it for very difficult running conditions. Indeed the race could be described as a race of two halves in terms of weather. The first half participants had the strong, cold easterly wind at their faces. However, turning for home along the Royal Canal this became a very strong tailwind for 4 - 5 miles from around Flynn's Machinery/Junction 14 M4. Participants travelled from all over Ireland with a very large participation from runners around Mullingar and the midlands. The race has an AAI permit. The course reverted to its original route this year. Last year saw a small change to the course configuration when the race crossed the M4 Motorway at The Downs via a winding pedestrian footbridge. This was not included this year.

The race began on Pearse Street/Austin Friar's Street in the town and proceeds North East out of the town to the N52 Delvin/Dundalk road towards Lough Sheever. The course then follows beautiful rural country roads out to The Downs at the M4. The only significant hill or rise on the course occurs here at about 7 miles when runners cross a pedestrian footbridge over the M4 near Junction 14 Thomas Flynn and Sons The Downs. The race then joins the now local access route of the old N4 road and then joins the Royal Canal at Great Down. The remainder of the race follows the Royal Canal back westward to Mullingar town. The towpath on the Canal is perfectly flat and in excellent condition. Runners will notice how the level of the canal changes dramatically along the route - at points the canal is level with the towpath. In other places the canal is at least 3 meters lower than the canal path. However the path is perfectly flat and firm the whole way. The course then leaves the Royal Canal at the Ardmore Road/Millmount area of the town and finishes in the Mullingar Town Park on Austin Friar's Street beside the Annebrook Hotel. The park provides a very nice setting for the finish of the race and runners and their families can mix and congregate around the finish area and the hotel.

Timing and event management was provided by www.myrunresults.com/. Their website is here [www.myrunresults.com/] and will contain the results to today's race.

The Canadian Tulip Festival / Festival Canadien des Tulipes in Ottawa the capital city of Canada

The Canadian Tulip Festival began after the Second World War, when Princess Juliana of the Netherlands presented Ottawa with 100,000 tulip bulbs as a token of friendship in 1945.

Canada had provided asylum for the Dutch royal family during the war and played a strong role in the Netherlands’ liberation. While the royal family sought refuge in Ottawa, Princess Juliana gave birth to Princess Margriet on January 19th 1943 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. The Canadian government temporarily declared the room “Dutch soil,” to ensure that the Princess would remain in line for the throne.

The Netherlands continues to give Ottawa 20,000 tulip bulbs every year.

Ottawa’s first Canadian Tulip Festival took place in May 1953 and opened with an inauguration ceremony at Parliament Hill.

The Canadian Tulip Festival has grown into the largest annual display of tulips in North America.

The Canadian Tulip Festival is also a celebration of the return of spring, with over a million tulips in 50 varieties blooming in public spaces across the National Capital Region.

Prevented stalling by dramatically decreasing retraction speed. It is not a perfect print, but it is much better than my previous attempts with retraction. Now I just need to optimise the Retraction Length setting. Unfortunately, my retraction speed in now 3 mm/s...it actually slows down my print by quite a bit. I am going to see if I can increase the speed a little more while still avoiding stalling.

An interesting sky this morning. Of course some post processing to bring out more of the relative "goodness".

Note the little spec in the cloud, just above the right hand palm tree. No, it's not dust or a dirt spot that I forgot to remove. Click on the image, and you may be able to tell that it's a 'plane, and a very well-defined one too. Well, maybe less so on this reduced-size upload, but clearly identifiable, with very clean lines, on my screen at the full image resolution - which is cropped a bit, by the way.
