TED: "There's too many ruddy flowers in this jigsaw pussel! I bet yew can guess who picked this one out to do, an' it wuzzn't me or Dad! It wuz slow goin' cuz we 'ad to keep lookin' at the lickle pikchur wot came wiv it (I'm 'oldin' it in me foto), an' that made Mum grumble a LOT. The only good fing is that the box it came in wuz nice, like a cube so it diddunt take up much room."

I really want to make your table runner doublesided (with the modern maples on back) but I do worry about how to quilt it then... what do you think? Would you like me to go ahead (quilting would then probably be meandering) or would you like a plain back and the quilting would echo the leaves?

These cut baseplates came together with some weird prototypes out of a box with Lego that used to belong to an ex Lego employee.

The prototypes:

flic.kr/p/2mdMBgR

I have not figured out what the round labels were meant for yet.

Edit. They are for instruction steps.

Some of the plates are also a bit foggy/milky.

The plates that may be used to solve the mystery:

flic.kr/p/2mdGGSy

Forgot to add that nearly all the baseplates have doublesided tape underneath or remains of it. So these were attached to a table or plate when they were marking/testing them.

This is an item I had on my wish list long time ago - since I've discovered Joe's amazing website icollectpuzzles.com.

A doublesided jigsaw with 54 7mm-solid-wood-pieces showing the maps of the world an the United States.

This teaching puzzle was made by D. & M.C. Wiggins from New Haven, N.Y. which probably was manufactured for the Silent Teacher series.

At the upper and lower part of this map you can find the history of the genesis and exploration of the world.

Some lower texture was cut for the jigsaw - so I will try to find the original print.

Unfortunately there is no box but the jigsaw is in great condition. I guess it's from the 1880s.

Tilting Monorail Train on Vandor. An icy world. The railway snakes through the mountains from the Coaxium mines to the depot many miles away.

Unusual as the wagons are 180 degrees to each other on the top and bottom of the track.

Double sided letterpress business cards with painted edges. Beautiffully desined by Servion Studio and printed by Elegante Press .

Today's piece is something of a first (well, for us at least) and I'm proud to present our first double sided picture. It's on a 60 x 40cm wood panel and features laser engraving, stencils, spraypaint, paint pens, acrylic paint and laser cutouts. If that's not enough I even managed to come up with my own patented industrial-looking hanging contraption from the hardware shop so it can be easily flipped to give your walls a new lease of life. Drop us a line if you're interested.

One side features an austere looking lady robot with the words 'Morrigun combat unit v1.7' engraved on her metallic skin and the crow insignia of the Death's Head battalion on her forehead. She doesn't look entirely pleased to see you. All this under the legend 'We can see beauty in robots but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to see beauty in us'. I've got to admit it doesn't look good for humanity. I, for one, welcome our new robotic overlords...

The other side was inspired by the Massive Attack song 'Safe from harm' and features a man with lilac hair and eyebrows and his not-so-subtle stare which he's been flashing at a certain somebody for a good while now across the crowded dancefloor. He's giving it his best to re-enact the bit of the song summarised in the line 'I was lookin' back to see if you were lookin' back at me to see me lookin' back at you' which is handily engraved into the side of the piece just to clarify issues.

I really enjoyed making this so there'll hopefully be more to come in the way of 2 sided pictures...

Cheers

This card was on the workshop menu of last Friday. The nose of Rudolf has been stamped, then cut out, put Stickles to it, let dry and put Diamond Glaze and finally give a layer of Diamond Glaze and glued on the card with 3D foam. Cute idea isn’t it? Linda taught also how to emboss halfway a card without having an ugly impression.

250 double-sided pieces, used and complete (plus one spare piece)

Forgot to measure it!

When we bought this little novelty jigsaw for Ted (sorry!) we naturally assumed it would contain the puzzle shown on the box - a double sided fish & chips design. I thought it was odd when I opened it up to find pieces with red edges, but no blue ones, but just thought it would become clearer as we assembled it. How wrong I was! It turned out to be a completely different puzzle of a Chinese takeaway, but with the same piece count. A quick check online tells me that both puzzles came from the same maker.

So how did this anomaly occur? Was it factory-packed in the wrong box? Did a former owner mix up two puzzles? I'm guessing the former. Either way, it was complete - in fact there was a spare piece included.

Our last visit to Malvern Flea Fair yielded a batch of 5 vintage puzzles from one vendor, with only one having a missing piece, all for a total of £10. As well as those, we also picked up this double-sided H.M.S. Victory jigsaw for 50p. It was still shrinkwrapped so we were pretty confident it would be complete. One side has a painting by James Wilson Carmichael showing H.M.S. Victory at anchor off St Helen's, Isle of Wight, on 3rd December 1805 on her return from the Battle of Trafalgar. This picture hangs in the Portsmouth Royal Naval Museum; the other side is a photograph showing the ship restored to Trafalgar condition and dressed with signal flags and ensigns. Photographed by S.W. Newbury, Hon, FIIP, FRPS.

Thinnish pieces but overall a reasonable puzzle. We only assembled the 'painting' side but used the reverse to check we'd put it together correctly. And yes, it was complete!

TED: "I got 'the munchies' when I wuz doin' this pussel, so Dad sed I cud 'ave sum of 'is Jaffa Cakes to keep me strengf up. That's them in the box by me elbow. I rekkin they 'elps me consentrate, it's the choklit on 'em.

Well, it worked, cuz I did the pussle dead kwik, an' it wuz dubble sided too! It's trees in a wood an' let me tell yew, it's a fiddly one if yew ain't a hexpert like me.

It's one of them woodun jigsaws, in a lickle woodun box, so I'm gonna put it in me pussel stash so I can do it again."

This is the first time I've ever made a card in a shape other than an A2 sized rectangle. I've always wanted to, but never have - so I was really excited that this week's challenge was to make shaped cards!

I decided I wanted to make a scalloped circle card using acetate, but it was harder than I thought! My punch wouldn't cut through one layer of the acetate, much less two, so I had to use a piece of scrap paper to make a template, then trace it, and cut it out.

I love using doubleside printed paper because it makes such a

nice sturdy doll.

Another view and more info blogged here.

The opposite side of the Dandelion ring. The coral features go all the way through the stone, so I have used the backside of the main coral star on the front as the head of the dandelion. The leaves and stem were cut into the back of the bezel and a silver sheet was soldered in as a backing plate so I could patina it black. This meant filing a small step into the back of the cab.

The hinge on either side of the oval stone does not go through the stone but is just soldered through to the inside of the bezel. Adding the oval bezel was the last step in soldering this ring.

Three soap bars, a green, white and orange one, on two blue towels folded a couple of times. Next to those there's a two sided bathing massage sponge. The towels are made from a thick soft fabric with a line pattern.

Dandelion-- my newest ring. It features a 15 x 24mm bezel-set fossilized coral cabochon in a flip-top setting. The U-shaped band is made of 1/4" double half-round stock and is a size 9. At the bottom of the band is a tube-set 3mm round faceted citrine. The golden color of this stone goes well with the coral and with the gold accents that frame the main stone.

Because the top of this ring flips over, it is really two rings in one.

I tried to replicate some adorable little pincushions that I saw on Ravelry, but my African Flowers are way too big and so my pincushion turned out HUGE, and ugly.

I'll be taking this one apart and simply joining the two flowers with no side piece.

Lace and stars were used to form the background of this (not-easy-to-) easel card by Linda. Perfect to put in a gift!

(What I would picture Little Miss Muffet sitting upon, if she were miniaturized.)

My preferred pincushion on the left is only 3" across by 1½" high. The tuffet isn't even stuffed all the way and it's already 4½" across and 3" high. It's just to big for a pincushion, in my estimation, so it will be disassembled.

(No worries though. I'm just making more grooves in my brain with these learning experiences!)

500 pieces, used and complete

18.5in diameter

As this is a double-sided puzzle I have only included 1x500pcs for my yearly piece count and one side for my puzzle count.

From the box base:

"Folding fans were introduced into Europe from the East in the 17th century. Early examples are rare, but hundreds of delicate fans from the 18th century have survived. Made from all kinds of materials, they can be dated by their shape and carved decoration, and from the style of their handpainted or printed designs. The subject matter found on fans changed during the 18th century. At first, classical and biblical themes were popular, but later, fashionable rococo fans were decorated with pastoral scenes of elegant men and women relaxing in the countryside."

When we bought this double-sided puzzle we didn't think we'd bought/completed it previously; once back home I did a quick check through my records and discovered we'd assembled it back in 2017. Or at least I thought we had until now... closer inspection indicates that, in fact, that was a different set of Rococo fans from the same distributor (Past Times), ref no. 1305.

That puzzle had a piece missing and another one badly damaged, this one was complete. We assembled one side and then turned it for a photo as we usually do for these double-sided puzzles. Beautiful images, slightly smaller-than-average pieces with a loose fit, overall a fun 'make'.

I noticed the same puzzle with a smarter box on sale at rarepuzzles.com for 28 euros!
