“You can’t have a bad day in polka dots.” - Anna Kendrick
The theme for Smile on Saturday for the 22nd of May is “polka dots”. Luckily for me, polka dots are my favourite motive and I wear a lot of polka dot fabric. However, photographing a polka dot button against polka dot fabric seemed too easy. I wanted something that was fun! After using a pair of beautiful 1:12 size miniature red slippers from my miniatures collection for the “Looking Close on Friday” group’s previous themes of “sprinkles”, “red and white” and “arrow or dart”, I thought I might use a different pair that I had yet to make my subject of my photo for this week’s theme: a polka dot pair! To give the photo a festive and party feel, I have surrounded the shoes by beautiful polka dot ribbons from my wrapping box (I told you I like polka dots)! The pairs of shoes is a centimetre in height and length.

Ever get that feeling you’re being watched… by a fish? This close-up from an aquarium exhibit turns one wary eye and a dotted gradient into an aquatic Rorschach test. With textures that hint at camouflage and patterns that look algorithmic, this image straddles the line between fine art and fishy side-eye. It’s unclear what species this is, but one thing’s for sure—it sees you before you see it.
Here's the easiest way (for me) to explain how I do that halftone effect thing. If this isn't clear, post questions in the comments.
