This began as part of a sculpture on the sidewalk in front of the Cantor Museum. It says YO if you are in front of it....(and OY if you are behind). The O is a shiny, yellow circle and someone must have lifted the SuperBoy up into the O. Here the sculpture & sidewalk have been run through several filters and the see-through donut hole has been filled with darkness.

-Totally unbecoming of a good girl, she pushed past her date who was going to get the door for her. Rushing up to the counter eagerly she scanned the variety placed in the cases. "It really is a happy day!", she squealed. The excitement of walking into her old neighborhood donuts shop and finding they still made HER favorite just wasn't containable! \o/-

Making donuts at home can be a delightful experience! Here's a basic recipe for classic fried donuts:
Essential Ingredients:
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
3/4 cup lukewarm milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)
Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
For Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, lukewarm milk, sugar, salt, butter, and egg. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.
Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Cut out donuts: Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out donuts and holes. Place them on a floured surface and let them rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Fry: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry donuts in batches, turning them once, until golden brown (1-2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and let them cool on a wire rack.

Well, I feel like I am always commenting on how much I learn with every image I take, but it is so true! Donuts are more fragile than they look and the frosting will come off in chunks. We don't eat many donuts around my house but it's my girlie's 7th birthday so we are celebrating, yay! Also, it is Flash Friday, therefore, I tried to incorporate fun and celebration by throwing sprinkles but all I got was a bunch of blurs and a big mess to now clean up, haha. I did light this with a softbox on the right side of the frame, feel like it's a bit too hot so maybe I should have pulled it back some. Time to clean up and party, Happy Friday to you all!
