Macro Mondays...

This gold charm belonged to my Aunt Nettie who passed away in 1995...

it hung from her charm bracelet along with others...

it is approx. 1/2 inch cube.. with a tightly folded one dollar bill inside.

I remember there was a tiny hammer that belonged with it... just in case of an emergency, you could break the 'glass'!

It has been safely stored away for years and I enjoyed taking it out, holding it and thinking of her... I miss her dearly...

Our Daily Challenge: The Three Macro Shootout

MacroMonday: #Crinkled, Wrinkled, Folded, or Creased

One is the loneliest number...:))

I rarely use real money these days. Found these dollar bills in a wallet from pre covid days.

Those pre covid dollar bills again.

GROUP: MACRO MONDAYS

THEME: CURRENCY

SUBJECT: A US DOLLAR BILL

(not quite 1.5" horizontally)

My submission for the theme "One Eye."

On the U.S. $1 Bill, the Eye of Providence, representing Divine Providence, looks out above an unfinished pyramid with 13 strata signifying the 13 original colonies. The pyramid represents strength and duration. The date on the base in Roman Numerals is 1776, the year of American Independence.

A general translation for the Latin "Annuit Coeptis" is "Providence favors our undertakings."

Novus Ordo Seclorum means "a new order of the ages."

The Eye is surrounded by rays of light, but where's the color?

I added a little bit of brightness around the Eye for my own personal symbol for "Optimism."

I included two numeral "1"s and three word "One's" because, after all, the theme is One Eye.

The Macro Mondays theme for today, 1/31, is currency - real or pretend.

There will be a couple of possibilities that I’ll post and then dither about— grin

Sneaked a photo of this mysterious gal at Champy's restaurant in Chatt.,Tn. No mystery about the dollar bills. They are scattered all over the restaurant. It has been a tradition for years.

Day two of rain. I took most of my photos off my laptop so this is a forgotten oldie.

We always stop at Johnson's Tavern on the way out to Hunting Island. She-crab soup, a dozen oysters on the half shell and a glass of wine. Life is good.

People write messages on dollar bills and staple them all over the restaurant. The owners take them down each year and donate them to a charity....pretty cool to see where people are from and that the money goes to a good cause.

After a long absence, I finally found something by the sticker artist 101 again. This one is great. Found on a brick wall on the old university campus. As usual, it looks like lots of effort went into this. If you don't know what this is about, click here flickr.com/photos/28289142@N00/sets/72157600201686364/ for some sort of an explanation.

"Out of many, one." The moto of the United States which appears in many places, including on the one dollar note, reminds us that we are a diverse nation which is intended become united. Sadly our recent behavior as Americans is doing the opposite of bringing us together. Perhaps it is time to spend a few seconds looking at the printed words the banner on our great seal and think of what it means.

These powerful words are printed using the intaglio process which gives U.S. currency its special raised ink feel. For the Macro Mondays group, topic: Printed Word. Happy Macro Monday!

Bird or dinosaur? Many years ago I was dining at a local Japanese restaurant with my family. During the course of the meal, one of the owners approached our table and started up a conversation, being very friendly with our young daughters. At one point, he asked for a $1 bill, which I remember thinking was odd, but then he used it to make this fabulous winged creature. I think it's supposed to be a crane.

"Novus ordo seclorum" is a Latin phrase that means "A new order of the ages (is born)." For the Looking Close on Friday group, challenge: wise words. Happy Friday!

The motto Novus ordo seclorum was translated from the Latin by Charles Thomson, a Latin expert who was involved in the design of the Great Seal of The United States and proposed it, as "A new order of the ages." He said it was to signify "the beginning of the new American Era" as of the date of the Declaration of Independence, 1776. This version appears on the back side of the U.S. One Dollar Bill.

Sarah has now gone back to Switzerland - it was lovely to spend time with her when she was over here. Come again soon, Sarah!!

BTW, the phrase 'Sweets of Sin' is an oblique reference to the cuckolding of the protagonist Leopold Bloom in James Joyce's novel 'Ulysses'. At one point in the narrative, Bloom flicks through an erotic novel in a bookstore (or perhaps a loan library?), as a possible gift for his cuckoldress wife. The title of the book he is attracted to is 'Sweets of Sin'...

***

Mr Bloom, alone, looked at the titles. Fair Tyrants by James Lovebirch. Know the kind that is. Had it? Yes.

He opened it. Thought so.

A woman's voice behind the dingy curtain. Listen: The man.

No: she wouldn't like that much. Got her it once.

He read the other title: Sweets of Sin. More in her line. Let us see.

He read where his finger opened.

-- All the dollarbills her husband gave her were spent in the stores on wondrous gowns and costliest frillies. For him! For Raoul!

Yes. This. Here. Try.

-- Her mouth glued on his in a luscious voluptuous kiss while his hands felt for the opulent curves inside her déshabillé.

Yes. Take this. The end.

-- You are late, he spoke hoarsely, eyeing her with a suspicious glare. The beautiful woman threw off her sabletrimmed wrap, displaying her queenly shoulders and heaving embonpoint. An imperceptible smile played round her perfect lips as she turned to him calmly.

Mr Bloom read again: The beautiful woman.

You may have noticed that 'Fair Tyrants' by James Lovebirch is recommended reading matter for the Ladies of the Sodality… I do like to raise the cultural tone whenever I can.
