Pump Project Art Complex presents Evolution: A Grand Opening. This event will feature a gallery exhibition showcasing the work of many Austin-based artists, an open studio tour of the nearly 40 artists who have studios at Pump Project, special demonstrations and performances, live music, and other exciting surprises.
In early 2005 the building that houses Pump Project Art Complex was nothing more than an old, vacant warehouse. The floors and walls were covered in thick layers of dust. When a few local artists found the building they realized it had potential to be something great. After many months of work and two years of transitions the building was renamed Pump Project Art Complex in 2007 after the rustic sprinkler pump at the edge of the gallery.
As the largest space of its kind in East Austin, Pump Project has renewed its focus of not only offering studio and gallery space to artists but also actively encouraging the importance of art in the community through art exhibitions, film screenings, performances, workshops, and more.
Evolution: A Grand Opening kicks off Pump Project’s renewed mission with a gallery exhibition including work by Alonso Rey-Sanchez, David Ohlerking, Miranda Mueller, Stan Irvin, Ricardo Acevedo, and many others. The painters, sculptors, printmakers, ceramicists, and glassworkers who have studios at Pump Project will open their doors to give the public a chance to interact with them and take a look at their latest work. Some artists will also give demonstrations on how they create their art. Musical guests for the evening are It Was Divine Justice, Daetron Vargas and others.
