Spaceman Spiff and the Great Time Fraud
Imagine you were a space traveller like Spaceman Spiff, and you finally found an alien civilization that has mastered time travel. These aliens can effortlessly travel to and fro in time without experiencing weird side effects, time paradoxes, or imposing dangerous changes to various timelines. And on top of that they are not only welcoming, but happily offer you to replace your old, (t)rusty spaceship (a bit battered from your space adventures, and you are also running out of spare parts) with one of their time-travelling ships. Would you say "No!" to this offer? Not if you are Spaceman Spiff whose alter ego Calvin deems himself to be the actual genius inventor of time travel ("Who are these aliens anyway, right, Hobbes? Hobbes?! Stop that eye-rolling! Hobbes?!?"). Spiff didn't even mind the fact that said time-travelling ship wasn't of the latest generation (let alone the previous generation or the generation before...). And so it happened that after a few lightyears away from planet time travel, on their way to new adventures through time and space, Hobbes (Calvin aka Spiff was too much occupied with bathing in the glory of having wangled this gem of a ship off these slightly dumb aliens) all of a sudden noticed that something was wrong with the mission timer. Its time didn't match the time his trusty (and thanks to multi-band 6 always accurate) G-Shock GW-M5610U-1 displayed. Could it be possible that the time-travelling ship's mission timer gained time? Oh dear, he should tell Calvi...Spiff! They had to find a way to replace the faulty mission-timer or they'd never make it back to their own timeline!
Well. Did Spiff and his long-suffering "No 1" Hobbes find a way back to the year 1997 to find a brand new Swatch Scuba Irony 200 "Hydrospace"? I'm afraid I don't know but actually, I'm quite confident because my very own Scuba Hydrospace (the only Swatch I have kept) that I have recently woken up from a long slumber with a new battery does not only still work after all these years, but it's still pretty accurate as well. Transferred to Spaceman Spiff's unfortunate situation this probably means that he and his loyal companion Hobbes will eventually travel back to their own timeline and maybe even back to the exact day they left Earth – provided Spiff aka Calvin lets Hobbes steer the course for once ;)
So I hope there is enough glass (the Scuba's domed crystal) in the image to suit the theme. The final image is made from 15 focus-stacking images combined in Helicon Focus.

HMM, Everyone, and have a great week ahead!
Pre-owned 2022 Seiko Prospex SNJ033P1 - 40th Anniversary.
The 1982 version of Seiko's ana-digi diver was worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in:
- Commando (1985)
- Raw Deal (1986)
- Predator (1987)
- The Running Man (1987)
In the Seiko community that timepiece is therefore called the "Arnie".
This full metal jacket 40th anniversary model is upgraded with solar charging and dive log function. It will record water temperature and -depth (up to 80m) when diving.
Timeless Elegance.
Introduced back in 1996, the Seiko SKX013 is a compact yet robust dive watch. Measuring a modest 38mm in diameter, this model is a smaller sibling to the iconic SKX007, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a more understated wrist presence without compromising on functionality.
The SKX013 features a unidirectional rotating bezel, a hallmark of professional dive watches, and a screw-down crown, ensuring water resistance up to 200 meters (ISO certified). Its automatic movement is the workhorse 7S26 caliber.
The watch’s luminous markers and hands offer excellent legibility in low-light conditions, a critical feature for divers.
Its classic black dial, paired with a rugged stainless steel case, lends it a timeless appeal suitable for both casual and formal settings. The day-date display at the 3 o’clock position adds practicality to its design.
Sadly, Seiko has now discontinued the watch, however, that should cement its cult status. For me, my SKX013 is a dependable friend that takes hard knocks in its stride and always looks the business!

This watch has a lot of sentimental meaning for me. At the last Christmas before he died, my Grandfather gave me a decent amount of cash as a present. Now, I'd had my eye on this watch for a while, thinking it looked "cool," but it was always ever so slightly out of my price range. Thankfully that was no longer the case.
Sadly my Grandfather died a few months later so I look back on this as his last "gift" to me. I never thought when I bought it that it'd take on this sentimental value. I've worn watches since I was a kid, but they'd always come and gone as they broke or I lost interest. With this one though, if it did break, there's no way I wouldn't try and get it repaired.
My trusty old divewatch, that's seen some mileage already.
Has the same 7S26 movement in it as my 2018 Seiko.

New shiny lumed ceremic bezel insert from www.lcbistore.com
I got the soundtrack to go with this (NSFW)...
I bought this Seiko just before the summer. I got it serviced and regulated and it has a new AR coated sapphire. Still preferred my 6548 at the time. Then I got the Z199 bracelet from the California based Uncle Seiko a couple of weeks ago. Last week I installed a ceramic bezel insert from DLW watches from Singapore. The letters are etched into the ceramic and filled with paint. Thickness and size is accurate to the nanometer.
This diver is Made in Japan in October 1980 and it is now my office watch, my evening watch, my weekend watch... it is my perfect watch!
I'm in love with this thing. I love how it looks. I love how it feels. I think it has all the dillies on the pepa tane.

Ya never know what you'll encounter when you go scuba diving in The Black Lagoon.
Or what you'll attract when you're wearing an orange dial wristwatch.
After 37 years, I have retired my 1980 Tudor Prince Oysterdate Submariner Snowflake. This is my new watch, it has amazing specs, I hope it serves me nearly as well.

A second take on the Morar BE. I sussed a way to get awesome soft light by simply bouncing a single speedlite off a blue surface. Watch resting on an eye loupe haha!

Wait... whuuut? You can't... I mean... dude, you're not wearing your brand new wristwatch while working on a CARPENTRY project, are you?
.
Yes, of COURSE I'm wearing my brand new wristwatch while working on a carpentry project. How else will I know if it is as durable as described? If it's truly durable enough for deep sea diving, it should be able to handle a little bit of sawdust and sweat.
.
My wristwatches do not sit in a velvet-lined display case. I wear my watches, and I expect my watches to hold up under everyday real life conditions.
.
So far, so good for the Seestern DOX01 mechanical automatic dive style wristwatch.
A lovely watch. Sandwich dial, domed AR sapphire crystal, lumed bezel, and a great brass case. And, a real challenge to photograph. That midnight blue dial really wants to appear black.
