The house may look like a 19th century Italian palazzo, but in reality this house began as, and still is, a research institution and it was inaugurated in 1933 under the name Scuola Romena di Roma. The house is designed by the architect Petre Antonescu.

This is one of several institutes and academies, focusing on research in the humanities that can be found not just in Rome, but this part of Rome. The neighbours are Academia Belgica, Reale Istituto Neerlandese, Istituto Svedese di Studi Classici (where I was staying at the time), Accademia d’Egitto di Belle Arti and Accademia di Danimarca - and The British School at Rome is at a close distance (as are several others). But while most (if not all) of the other institutes have worked continuously as just that since their founding, the Romanian Academy has had a more diverse history. It was completely closed 1947-1969 and left to decay, and when it reopened it was as a Romanian library and culture centre. After 1989 it renamed itself Accademia di Romania a Roma and in 2005 it was re-admitted into the official organization for the foreign research institutes in Rome.

Thanks to everyone who has visited. A confronting photo for some people. I appreciate very much the kind comments and faves which have been left.

A huntsman spider, probably Heteropoda jugulans. Male and female huntsman spiders are similar in size with the males having longer legs and females slightly bigger bodies. Actually, I am not sure whether this is a male or female. Unlike many spiders, the males do not risk being eaten after mating. Some species of huntsman spiders live in colonies. Normally, huntsman spiders are nocturnal. However, this spider was out in the afternoon. It has eight eyes. The upper four appear closed. Perhaps it was squinting because of the bright light.

For the Macro Mondays theme "Inspired by a Song". The song I chose is "Boris the Spider" by the Who. Perhaps a slightly larger spider than the Who had in mind but definitely a little creepy. The spider was on a variegated bromeliad leaf in my garden and was left undisturbed after being photographed. Huntsman spiders can also be found indoors.

Macrophotography has made me appreciate what a diverse and fascinating group of animals that spiders are.

Boris the Spider by The Who

Look, he's crawling up my wall

Black and hairy, very small

Now he's up above my head

Hanging by a little thread

Boris the spider

Boris the spider

Now he's dropped on to the floor

Heading for the bedroom door

Maybe he's as scared as me

Where's he gone now, I can't see

Boris the spider

Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly

Creepy, crawly

Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

There he is wrapped in a ball

Doesn't seem to move at all

Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure

Pick this book up off the floor

Boris the spider

Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly

Creepy,…

Halde Nordeutschland

The scree "Norddeutschland" (mining dump) based on the excavation material from the coal mines of Kamp-Lintfort and Neukirchen-Vluyn left side of the river Rhine. At the top of 102m (300 feet) by the so called hall house you have an amazing view eastwards to the lower Rhine region and the "Ruhrgebiet". There are also facilities for all kind of events.

Eleutherococcus senticosus is a species of small, woody shrub in the family Araliaceae native to Northeastern Asia. It may be colloquially called devil's bush, Siberian ginseng, eleuthero, ciwujia, Devil's shrub, shigoka, touch-me-not, wild pepper, or kan jang. Eleutherococcus senticosus has a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine. Root extracts of this plant are sold as a dietary supplement or cosmetic, usually under the name Siberian ginseng.

The derived extract from the roots has been characterized for its major constituents, including lignans, sesamin, syringaresinol, phenylpropanes, coumarins, beta-sitosterol and daucosterol.

Berries from E. senticosus contain diverse polyphenols, including caffeic acid, vanillic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid, and benzoic acid, with significant content of calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

The winter has been relatively warm in Helsinki and thus, the ice on the sea has already disappeared. However, the remnants of the ice can be still found near beaches. And there are so many different types of ice, ranging from solid chunks to hollow cylinder structures and flower-like bloomings! And against the yellow sunset, they all look amazing!

ÖBB has a nice tradition of decorating various traction units with name lettering. In particular, the employees of the Linz maintenance facility seem to like to immortalize themselves here. For example, the 1116.050 bears the name "Robert" on the front of the locomotive. On 09 September 2021, I was able to photograph the Taurus in front of a tank car train in the woods between Grafing and Aßling.

... El Toro de Osborne (The Osborne Bull), created by Manolo Prieto in 1956, celebrates 60 years!!! ... controversial and personal tastes aside, El Toro, initially conceived as a big billboard to promote the brandy Veterano (Bodegas Osborne) is the perfect example of how a good idea and a good design, simples but brilliants, become an authentic icon of collective imagination!!! ... and an element of artistic reinterpetación by authors as diverse as Salvador Dalí, Anne Lebovitz, Richard Avedon, Keith Haring or Victorio & Lucchino, among many others.

... see his solitary and black silhouette, crowning plains, little mountains or hills, still I seems that a stroke of GENIUS!!! ... in CAPITAL LETTERS, as its original 14 meters high!!! ... and to be clear, I am not a "bullfighting aficionado", in fact I am against the Bullfights and any show or event based on animal abuse!!!

... I took the picture from the back seat of the car, when we returned from Asturias!!! ... I gave a cry, Rafa ("El Fisio") slightly slowed the march, Cris and Ianne left me space (I was in the right window and The Bull was in the left) ... and then I clicked!!! ... Veterano, El Toro ... finally I had it ... in digital !!! ... LOL!!!

... if you pass by El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz / Spain) you can go to La Fundación Osborne (The Osborne Foundation) and enjoy about 200 artworks inspired by El Toro!!!

The Mountains-to-Sea Trail is as diverse as North Carolina. Along the trail, you may see mountain vistas, rolling Piedmont farms, picture postcard colonial towns, weathered tobacco barns, old textile villages, country churches, rushing mountain streams, coastal swamps, hardwood and pine forests, lighthouses, sand dunes, miles of seashore, and friendly people. 680 miles of the route are on trail, and connecting backroads and an optional paddle route allow hikers to trek across the state.

A frog is any member of a diverse and largely carnivorous group of short-bodied, tailless amphibians composing the order Anura The oldest fossil "proto-frog" appeared in the early Triassic of Madagascar, but molecular clock dating suggests their origins may extend further back to the Permian, 265 million years ago. A diverse and an elder of our American cities and of the American experience. Founded in 1729, Baltimore truly is an All-American city. Like all cities, the rise and fall come in waves like the coastal tides; Baltimore, simply put, is coming back and when it comes back, it'll be a stronger city than its previous time. This is a collection of Baltimore at its core, has been color graded to simply match the mood and soul of its heart, and told by the Minolta and Sony connection.
