Castle Prugg
The castle Prugg is a town castle in Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria.
The by the Harrach family privately owned castle together with its park and outbuildings forms its own cadastral district of Bruck. The palace is not accessible, while the park is open to the public.

The castle was originally built as a fortress to protect against over and over again invading Hungarians. The area belonged to a donation from the year 1074 by King Henry IV to the Bishop of Freising. To the name of Ascherichsbrugge it came through the bishop Ascherich, who headed the Archdiocese of Gran around the year 1000.
After several changes of ownership the place and the dominion in 1236 fell to the Babenberg. The former Wasserburg (water castle) 1242 for the first time documentarily is mentioned. In the immediate vicinity there is a bridge across the Leitha, which was already important under the Romans, and was forming the frontier. Therefore, the border fortress had a great military importance and was never loaned in the Middle Ages. Only in case of urgent need of money, it was pledged for a short time. These included, for example, the Kuenringer.
The castle resisted the attacks again and again. Only in 1484 it had to be abandoned due to lack of supplies after a six-week siege by the Hungarians. But in 1490 it was already in the possession of Maximilian I. In the first Turkish siege against Sultan Süleyman it had to be abandoned again.
In 1560, city and castle was pledged to the baron Leonhard IV von Harrach, who was also already the owner of the neighboring Rohrau. In the course of the Thirty Years' War, it passed completely into the possession of Count Carl von Harrach. Due to a letter of protection of Kara Mustafa Pasha the castle was spared during the second Turkish siege in 1683.
After the Turkish wars the castle from the ground up to was rebuilt into the palace. From 1707-1711 Aloys Thomas Raimund Count Harrach, District Marshal in Lower Austria, the older castle in Bruck an der Leitha by the architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt completely had rebuilt. The artists who worked with Hildebrandt were the sculptors Johann Bendl, Giovanni Battista Passerini from the imperial quarry, Giovanni Stanetti and Joseph Kracker, plasterers Alberto Camesina and Santino Bussi, the fresco painter Bartolomeo Altomonte. Are documented large orders for the stonemason brotherhood (Steinmetzbruderschaft) in Kaisersteinbruch.

Today was the second day of term which means the 3rd years have to choose their dissertation topics.
I always think this is a tough day and many students camp out to get their specific choice of topics from about 2am.
Some are lucky, others - not so much and as much as dissertations are my favourite part about being an academic, I always have turn a few students away as I simply don't have the capacity to coach them properly.
