Formed in 1964, the Red Arrows are the RAF’s world-famous aerobatic team. Flying Hawk jets in perfect synchrony, they’ve become symbols of British precision and teamwork, thrilling crowds worldwide with their red, white, and blue smoke trails.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a highly agile aircraft, designed to be a supremely effective dogfighter in combat. Later production aircraft have been increasingly better equipped to undertake air-to-surface strike missions and to be compatible with an increasing number of different armaments and equipment, including Storm Shadow and Brimstone missiles. The Typhoon had its combat debut during the 2011 military intervention in Libya with the UK's Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Italian Air Force, performing aerial reconnaissance and ground-strike missions.
History of the original JG891
Construction and deployment: Spitfire JG891 was built at the Castle Bromwich factory and was delivered to the RAF on January 2, 1943. Instead of heading to Malta, it was shipped to Australia and issued to No. 79 Squadron RAAF, which was operating in Papua New Guinea.
Written off: The aircraft was written off after a flapless landing on January 12, 1944, and the wreckage was left in undergrowth.
Restoration: Discovered in 1973, the Spitfire was eventually acquired by Historic Flying at Duxford in 1999 and was fully restored.
Owner and registration: The restored aircraft was later acquired by Comanche Fighters and given the civilian registration G-LFVC.
JG891's 249 Squadron tribute
The fully restored Spitfire JG891 was repainted to honor the pilots of the Malta campaign. It is painted in the authentic colors of a Mk Vc of 249 Squadron, which was based at Ta Qali airfield in Malta in 1943.
The tribute livery represents JK879, a Spitfire flown by Flight Sergeant John G. "Jack" Hughes of the Royal Canadian Air Force while serving with 249 Squadron.
249 Squadron and Malta
Arrival in Malta: 249 Squadron arrived in Malta in May 1941 and converted to Spitfires in February 1942.
Ta Qali airfield: The squadron flew from Ta Qali airfield during the pivotal period of the Siege of Malta.
Malta defense: The island was subjected to intense enemy bombing, and the 249 Squadron was one of the most successful RAF fighter units in its defense.

And yes, when I’m not staring at the clouds, I’m surviving Orville’s rants over on YouTube face with tears of joy [www.youtube.com/@AngryOrville]
Formed in 1964, the Red Arrows are the official aerobatic display team of the Royal Air Force and one of Britain’s best-known aviation ambassadors. Flying the BAE Systems Hawk jet, they’ve performed thousands of displays across the world, known for their precision, teamwork, and the trademark red, white, and blue smoke trails. Their displays celebrate the skill and discipline of RAF pilots while inspiring new generations with the thrill of flight.

Airbourne Eastbourne 2012
shot from the beach
After performing his last 'solo' display at the Duxford Autumn Airshow, Westland Wasp XT787 brings the Belgian Air Force F-16 display pilot Cdt. Michel 'Mich' Beulen back in from nearby RAF Mildenhall where he was based for the weekend. Shame the commentator's timing was a little off announcing his arrival as I don't think he got suitable recognition from the crowd!
