The Disney Wish cruise ship, built by Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg Germany, is towed over the river Ems to Eemshaven in the Netherlands for completion and delivery

The new 340 metre long Disney cruise liner leaves the dockyard port of the Meyer Werft towards the North Sea. However, before the ship reaches the North Sea, it still has to travel around 30 nautical miles on the very narrow Ems.

Once you've experienced a quiet sunny morning in the Venetian area of Tokyo Disney Sea, it's clear that you are ruined for all other theme parks.

I look forward to being in its embrace again in October.

Arrival of the Disney Fantasy

I am having a "me" day. I'm not doing anything today unless I want to. And if that means that I'm going to tuck myself into the couch and watch Aladdin or Sword in the Stone, then that's what I'll do! This is both inspired by and dedicated to my dear friend Devin who is also a huge Disney "nerd". Although he is one step above since he actually works at Disneyland, I have a feeling that if we lived in the same city we'd be pretty good friends!

Today I went for a fantastic 40km bike ride on a brand new trail between my town and the next one, it's on a reclaimed train route and it was just a perfect way to spend the afternoon, the trail was bustling with happy couples, kids on rollerblades, even a few horses. I love those kinds of rides!

Hope you all get a chance to have a "you" day soon!

p.s. the ears are from my very first set of Mickey ears back when we went on a family trip to Disneyland when I was 8

The more traditional view of Cinderella's castle, in HDR of course. :-) This was at dusk, just before the big fireworks show. See my other Disney photos here.

This is a 4 exposure merge to capture the sunset on the Carthay Circle Theater at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I used Photomatix version 6.1 and the deghosting feature really worked well to tame the movement of the palm trees as I was bracketing exposures.

Bracketing your exposures and merging them in software really works well with neon signs that blink on and off. You can capture the sign with all of it's elements lit by bracketing the exposures.

So that's your tip for today ; )

The lovely Megara, of Disney's Hercules, was posing for photographers at Tokyo's Disney Sea when I caught this shot.

This shot was from a visit to Disney World taken with my family when I was about 17 or 18 years old. That would place this photo around 1972- 1973.

Disney is one of those few places that changes, but not in bad ways, and always seems to look the same over time, which is pretty amazing, since it is now at least 43 years older. It would be nice if the real world aged as gracefully and seemed to change as little!

The shot was taken by my mother. Mom was not a great photographer, but thankfully, she did manage to record a lot of memories, which I can salvage. Time isn't a friend to photos any more than it is to buildings or people, and one of poor quality, taken by an amateur, and weathered by decades of time is not always much to work with. I've done what I could to pull up details and restore some color.
