PS. The Government announced in 2019 that it will proceed with switching off analogue television services (ASO) on November 30, 2020 (11.59pm). Hong Kong will enter an era of full digital TV broadcasting on December 1, 2020.
High-Definition Television (HDTV) introduced this year by Rogers Television (Toronto's leading television broadcasting company).
Now with more realistic and a higher resolution than traditional television systems, standard-definition TV (SDTV).
Less is sometimes more and better!
HDTV digitally broadcast over analog broadcasting television (DTV) signals require less bandwidth due to digital video compression and provide a much more realistic picture.

Airtel announced the launch of its DTH Service, named "Airtel Digital TV" today. I've had the privilege of using their service through an employee-only beta since August. Overall, I love it.
The set top box is a piece of beauty in black and red with glowy red controls that lie flush with the box's surfaces. It would be a perfect complement for your LG Scarlet TV, if you have one.
The universal remote control is a very thoughtful piece of equipment. It can be programmed to learn some of your TV's critical functions like volume control, muting, etc. and you can switch on/off the TV as well as the set top box with the same remote.
Video quality is definitely not DVD-like. That's a big hogwash that all DTH providers indulge in. If your TV screen is bigger than 25", expect pixellation and noise reduction artifacts to be visible. Unfortunately, none of the other DTH providers can claim any improvement on this front. They're all sub-par compared to progressive DVD video. That said, Airtel Digital TV's video quality is comparable to Tata Sky and definitely better than Dish TV's.
Audio quality is pretty good and full stereo. I usually hook it up to my hi-fi (Sony DHC-AZ2D, now discontinued) and the quality doesn't disappoint me.
Airtel's other USP is the ability to continue working when the skies are overcast. That's critical for places like Bangalore and Mumbai where it rains too often. I think I've seen it not work only once, briefly, when the skies were hopelessly dark.
One more thing I'm really excited about is the inclusion of WorldSpace Satellite Radio in Airtel's DTH package. I didn't get to try it with the pre-release but given the really sad state of FM radio in Bangalore, this is a godsend. AFAIK, WorldSpace Radio subscription charges would be additional.
In terms of customer service, expect the kind of service you've been getting from Airtel Broadband, which is good. I've only had one issue with them wherein ESPN Star Sports' channels weren't available due to some "technical fault" for at least two weeks. I'm not at home until end of this month to verify, but I hope they'd have fixed this before launch. Update: It was indeed fixed before launch. Update 2: After going through various issues with Airtel Digital TV, I have to say with regrets that their customer service simply SUCKS! Good luck to you if you manage to get through a call in under 45 minutes without call drops and such. The customer care people are totally lame when it comes to troubleshooting. FWIW, even their website is badly broken. I've been trying to register on the website for the last hour but it's just broken (date of birth dropdown shows no dates, ever!).
All in all, I'm glad that we finally get some class in the DTH provider market. No more Tata Sky-Dish TV duopoly, especially with further launches from Sun and Reliance (who tried to steal Airtel launch's thunder with a very confusing series of ads).

I created this shot after Dish Network raised my rates. Now I use an antenna to get local channels. The quality is even better than dish and it is free. They are so greedy, I hope others will ditch the dish.
Sooo, Fiona watches sports every night before bed. It's part of her routine. With autism, routine is very important, and for her she needs to watch sports every night and drink some chocolate milk in order to fall asleep. We have digital T.V. , so we have several channels for each station and for channel 5, they have an all sports channel that broadcasts all kinds of sports. Triathalons, cycling, water polo, extreme BMX, extreme skateboarding, beach volleyball, Olympics, speed skating, and the Ironman competition. We were watching the 2008 Ironman competition on T.V. and I was telling her about a person I went to school with that ran the Ironman competitions. She thought it was so cool and thought he was a hero. So I sent him a message to let him know that Fi was watching and what she had said about him. Anyway, he sent her a medal from one of his races along with his story of how he became an Ironman and when his next race will be. We took the picture to send him a thank you letter. Right now, the medal is being shared with the Elementary School and they are learning about athletes and inspirational figures in our community. He is definitely a hero in Fiona's eyes. Incidentally, she watched the same Ironman race again a few days ago. She can't wait until Nov. 22nd. That's when his next race is and she hasn't stopped talking about it.
Couldn't get a flattering, full-length still (showing off her leggings & gladiator sandals), but this lady has to be the loveliest weathergirl ever. From the front her hair looks short, but is tied back in a loose ponytail.

I need to find a bigger LCD that takes AV in and has its own speakers, but all of the cheap "headrest monitors" meant for car applications don't do audio.
On the bus towards the Bullring I saw this billboard for the digital switchover, which will happen in the West Midlands in September 2011.
Also saw a few others on the way into the city centre.
I have Freeview. And I don't think it is as good as it was. All the good channels have gone. I only seem to watch the News Channels, things I record (if they record) and breakfast shows.
I really wish they would stop messing about with Freeview. Even something minor like renaming a channel without telling the general public. Usually these changes require re-scanning the box / digital TV.
Note I don't want Sky or Virgin. Sky are evil and I don't "Believe in Better".
And Virging sold out, selling there channels to Sky, then Sky got rid of them, or moved there shows to pay channels (meaning no longer free to air).

The 8-bay antenna is an Electronics Research Inc. SHPXA-8BC-HW-SP, 8sections.5wavelength spacing.
It is a shared auxiliary transmitting antenna for KBIG/104.3 (21kw), KIIS/102.7 (4kw), KOST/103.5 (10kw) and KRRL/92.3 (19kw). All of those have aux antennae elsewhere as well.
The 2-bay side mounted below that may be a 93.9 antenna fromwhen it was KZLA. It's now (in 2020) KLLI. There is no current (April 2020) license for this one.
Los cinéfilos de Concepción y sus alrrededores en realidad somos afortunados. Todos los martes la "Sala Andes" presenta un ciclo mensual con películas de las grandes estrellas de la época de oro de Hollywood, realmente un imperdible. Este mes de mayo se exibirán películas de la diva Rita Hayworth (la inmortal "Gilda"), que dicho sea de paso tenía ascendencia española. La muestra se inicia el martes 3 de mayo con "Los amores de Carmen", el martes 17 con "Desde aquel beso", el martes 24 "La dama de Shangai" y cierra el martes 31 de mayo con "Sus dos cariños". El horario como siempre a las 16.00 hrs. Es muy recomendable estar atento a los diferentes programas mensuales de la Sala ya que siempre traen gratas sorpresas y recordar que muchas de las películas que se exiben ya no se encuentran ni en el comercio formal ni para arrendarlas, por lo que cada muestra constituye un pequeño gran tesoro para los cinéfilos...la dirección es Diagonal Pedro Aguirre Cerda 1054 (O´higgins esquina Tucapel), Concepción. Como siempre la entrada es gratuíta.

First one took place on the 7th of September. 2nd and final one today on the 21st of September 2011.
A bus was in the way, so had to find somewhere to take it, and got the traffic lights in the way.
