Digging in the Snow Kylie my staffie

My neighbors and I begin digging out after the Nor'easter dumped 29 inches (NWS official report) of snow, overnight. It took me 3 hours, using a snowblower, to clear my driveway and the walkway to the front door. 5/6 foot drifts were not uncommon.

The mail box at the end of the driveway stands 4 foot.

The Dinorwic quarry is a large former slate quarry, now home to the Welsh National Slate Museum, located between the villages of Llanberis and Dinorwig in North Wales. It was the second largest slate quarry in Wales, indeed in the world, after the neighbouring Penrhyn quarry near Bethesda.

It covered more than 700 acres (283 ha) consisting of two main quarry sections with 20 galleries in each and a number of ancillary workings. Extensive internal tramway systems connected the quarries using inclines to transport slate between galleries.

Get ready to crush it!

Nassarius snails actually dig themselves into the sand.

I do love me some end cab switchers. Here near the Tulane University we found a NOPB transfer to UP dragging a long cut of cars to East Bridge where a UP crew with UP power would take over. April 27, 2017.

We wanted to make a sand castle but instead made a giant hole. We were competing against the 5 year olds next to us. I'd say we won!

Inspired and eager after having been read a story about someone discovering buried treasure on their property, my brothers and I were reluctantly given the green light to dig for treasure on our own property in Fisher, Illinois, as long as we stayed in the garden. I don't recall finding any treasure. This is a scan of one of my fathers 35mm Kodachrome transparencies.

When digging for bottles there is a lot of "dump" you dig through. A lot of junk but looking back I wished I would of kept more of it!

One of the expansion joints on the westbound I-90 East Channel Bridge near Mercer Island, WA is slowly exposed by contracgtor crews. The expansion joint is embedded in concrete nearly a foot deep. Exposing it is hard, time-consuming work.

Contractor crews are replacing the two expansion joints on the bridge because they've outlived their useful lifespan. The joints are 33 years old and deteriorating. There are cracks in the steel and the rubber seal is broken.

Replacing the expansion joints is necessary to preserve the bridge and ensure the safety of drivers.
