The Minke Whale was elusive. This animal is known to be unpredictable in it's movement and can and does submerge suddenly and completely. Only the two gulls hanging about give a sign that there is a whale around. The pouring rain only made photography that much more difficult. The name Minky Whale is probably a partial translation of Norwegian minkehval, possibly after a Norwegian whaler named Meincke, who mistook a northern minke whale for a blue whale.
