"The devil is in the detail" is an idiom that refers to a catch or mysterious element hidden in the details,[1] meaning that something might seem simple at a first look but will take more time and effort to complete than expected[2] and derives from the earlier phrase, "God is in the detail" expressing the idea that whatever one does should be done thoroughly; i.e. details are important.[1] ~ Wikipedia

So thankful for this obsession I have with the details...Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Flickr Friends!

Its devilish cultivar name (via Spanish) refers to the dark purplish leaves that this shrub bears in spring, with dark colors being loosely associated with the devil.

The common name "ninebark" comes from the plant's peeling bark. Several shades of brown are displayed as it peels. As an outer layer of bark peels, a new layer with a slightly different color is revealed. The "nine" refers to the number of such layers, although nine seems to be an arbitrary figure.

Diablo Dam is in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State and is one of three lakes create by damming the Skagit river.

The brown areas on the right of the photo are the result of the August 2023 forest fire.

As seen on a grey day in Essex.

It's been ages since I've taken a sunset picture. My friend and I were driving down the freeway near Lodi after a day of bird photography when we saw this gorgeous sunset. We zipped off the freeway and pulled over and after a minute or so, it was past the peak. So glad we caught it!

Pailon del Diablo is the scariest waterfall you will ever encounter. Located in Ecuador, it's so powerful that the force alone pulls anything leaning over the edge DOWN in to the pit below. If you fall in, please recover my sunglasses and hat! :( LOL

Info: This mountain in Mexico is the highest peak on the Baja California peninsula, measuring 3,096 metres (10,157 ft). It is alternately called Cerro de la Encantada , 'Hill of the Enchanted', 'Hill of the Bewitched'. - Picacho del Diablo - Wiki

Been editing some shots I took a while back on our last trip to the States. This was the road by Lake Diablo up in the North Cascades in Washington State. We'd stayed the previous night in Marblemount and were heading through the Cascades towards Palouse. Used the 'vintage instant' style in Lightroom to get to this processed version.

Diablo Lake, North Cascades, Washington. I brought my demons to paradise. At the time, months of constant sciatic pain were a cloud around me, physically and mentally. If there was devil, he had gotten into my leg and made every day an agony. Part of me just wanted to lie in a fetal position where nothing hurt. I tried to exert the nerve into remission, but the more I pushed it, the worse it got. But I am a stubborn man. I felt I could cure myself if I could just make my body stronger, stretch it out, exorcise the pain. Despite everyone's criticisms that I was aggravating things more, I ultimately refused to give up a planned trip, and came to this slice of heaven, to climb mountains. Every day I hurt at the start and end, but not so much as I pushed myself through the hikes. Since I began coming out here, the North Cascades had always seemed mystical to me. Darkly forested and impossibly steep, the trails are often lost under snow pack late into August, and yet they are a pure pleasure to hike, and a feast for the eyes. This day's slog was over, and, camp made, I went looking for a sunset. I found it above the water-can't-really-be-that-color-i-don't-believe-it of Diablo Lake. But it's real. Maybe the devil in me decided to go play in paradise while I was so distracted. Maybe it was more a departure than a cure. Within a couple of weeks of returning home, my nerve pain was gone, the cloud had lifted like the one I saw on this night, revealing the shine of hope. I left some pain in these mountains. But, there is always more to be found. I remain stubborn. Maybe I can find another devil's paradise.

Our hills are so green here on Mt Diablo. Loving my 14-20mm Tokina on the DX.

I had a photo shoot yesterday at my place for the lady who owns Artemis who many of you are familiar with. Well this is one of his offspring, a young Gypsy stallion named Diablo. He is I think about 2. I also photographed his half brother Silver, also an Artemis offspring but who looks very much like Artemis. You'll see pics of him here, too in the future.

Very busy times. Family here for a while, repainting and staining my barn, another photo shoot, just busy, busy, busy.

I'll catch up with you all soon

This time, I am posting the second ninebark that I have- the diablo. The difference is in the colour of the leaves which are a dark burgundy in this case.

Been over a month since I took a proper camera photo (as opposed to my iPhone) but this Macro Mondays theme appealed for some reason :) Still just a point & shoot with the IXUS but maybe I'm coming out of photography hibernation? Screw bottle cap on a bottle of Chilean Merlot - cheers HMM!
