We got the rope stuck when we tried to pull it from the top of El Matador (the knot got stuck in the crack). After awhile trying to pull the ropes unsuccessfully, I ran back to the car to get my jumars.
Me in unintentional silhouette in front of the Devil's Tower in Wyoming. All the rocks at the foot of the tower have fallen from the tower itself over the last several thousands of years. You can see on the sides of the tower where pieces have fallen off.
Matt is stoked about all the cams we brought. Little did he know he'd run out of them before the belay...

Devils Tower (Lakota: Mato Tipila, which means “Bear Lodge”) is a monolithic igneous intrusion or volcanic neck located in the Black Hills near Sundance Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. It rises dramatically 1,267 feet above the surrounding terrain and the summit is 5,112 feet above sea level. Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Monument's boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres.
