...I up and made us some deviled eggs! For no reason! Not even a picnic!
(After I'd already boiled, cooled, peeled, and cut in half the eggs, I realized that my kitchen had no celery or onion in it! Which is pretty rare, really, and sort of freaked me out. So these deviled eggs have no crunchies in them and are served with dill pickles to compensate.)
The Devil's Churn is about 2-3 miles south of Yachats, on the Central Oregon Coast. This narrow fissure into the flank of Cape Perpetua compresses the energies of the incoming tide and causes the sea foam to create intricate and amazing patterns, almost like churned butter.

Devils Head is a mountain summit in the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 9,749-foot (2,971 m) peak is located in Pike National Forest, 14.2 miles (22.9 km) southwest by south (bearing 210°) of the community of Sedalia in Douglas County, Colorado, United States.

This is at the same time a long and short report , about the traditional sacred and profane feast with pagan roots, called "u Ballu di Diavuli" (The Dance of the Devils) that I made this year on the province of Palermo); this feast, which has medieval origins, is afternoon of Easter in the Sicilian village of Prizzi (in the the representation of the eternal struggle of Evil (two Devils and Death) against the Good (Christ and the Virgin Mary). Devils wears a wool suit in red (the color of the fire of hell ...), also wearing a flashy iron mask with a big mouth adorned with big teeth and a lolling tongue, the mask is surmounted by two horns while the back is covered with a fleece of a goat that covers shoulders and back (a Devil has a black fleece, the other Devil a white fleece), and Devils shake pieces of iron chains which are agitated bumping against the masks; the Death wears a wool suit of yellow ocher, wearing a leather mask always yellow, which looks like a skull, from his mouth come out long teeth, it holds in its hands an "instrument of death" very similar to a medieval crossbow. The feast begins on Easter morning, Death along with the two devils (which have become even four, to involve as many passers-by) roam the streets of the town of Prizzi, engaging with the passers jokes and cajoling, passers are invited to dance with them at the sound of the well-paced band music. Often the two devils "capture the spirit" of a passer, which to be able to see his liberated soul .... must issue a small donation symbolic .... Nevertheless, the name of the Sicilian feast "the Dance of the Devils" originates from a very special time of the event, when the two statues of the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary are in front each other of them to meet (U 'Ncontru): it is here, between the two statues, the two Devils and the Death staged a bustle of dancing, jumping, coaxing ... with the aim of preventing this meeting, but they will be slain by the swords of the Angels (Angels to guard the Risen Christ), so the Mother and her Son can meet, in a blaze of joy of the devotees, with the Good that has defeated the well forces of Evil ...
I was in front of mirror n saw my 4 side-teeth which are completely eligible for non-veg food, so I got the idea about "Devil" personality...
A closer look at Devils Tower National Monument, northeast Wyoming, USA. Formed by magma that hardened beneath the earth's surface 50 million years ago, then appeared above the landscape 1-2 million years ago as the softer rock around it eroded away, this otherworldly formation is sacred to local Native American tribes. According to legend, the Great Spirit made the rock rise out of the earth to help people escape a giant bear, who angrily clawed at the sides as it grew.
This huge caterpillar is native to our area and was found on the Philadelphia University campus. It has a striking teal green color with black spikes and two brown areas (front and back) to tell predators: LEAVE ME BE! It will become the six inch brown with orange spots Regal Moth (Cranshaw, 2008). The Red Devil's were a five man band who were forganized from elements of Will Marion Cook's Southern Syncopated Orchestra which was entertaining London in 1919. Some of the members may also have been associated with Seth Weeks, the mandolin virtuoso.
Elliot Carpenter, Opal Cooper, Sam Richardson, Roscoe Burnett and Creighton Thompson formed the group and went to Paris in 1920.
"The offer of more money took them to London in August 1920 for a job at Rector’s Club where the band was renamed the Red Devils. They also played the music halls and appeared at Rector’s Club in Paris. They remained in London until December 1922. Indiscipline among the musicians and problems over tax led to the break up of the band in 1923. While in London they recorded for the Gramophone Company."

Neunkirchen Am Brand: This is a strange fountain in a corner of this small village in the Bavaria region. There is a label below the arms in which advise people the water is not drinkable... of course not; it was Green!!!
As promised from yesterday's sneak peak. See if you can spot the climbers from yesterday's photo. Clouds had moved in at this time. But I have some much better photos of the tower with cloud filled blue skies in store for another day.

It was an early morning shoot which meant getting up at 4am on a cold Autumn Sydney morning.

Near Kenora, Ontario, there is a narrow water channel in the Lake of the Woods, which is known as "Devil's Gap". Natives believe there are spirits which live within certain rocks at the lake, and this particular rock is one of the best-known of the spirit-rocks. In the late 1800's someone painted a face onto the rock, as a joke, and people have kept repainting the rock ever since then.
Tasmanian Devils are threatened with extinction due to a contagious cancer that has spread among the endemic population in Tasmania, Australia. Research projects have been hard at work trying to come up with a cure – a vaccine or medication – to combat the cancer, which causes horribly disfigurement of the face of the animals and is always fatal once contracted. The cancer is spread when the devils rub each others faces as part of a mating ritual. This Tasmanian Devil and the images you'll see in the other postings were photographed at a research institute where healthy animals from outside the affected regions they are being bred with those from affected areas to replenish the gene pool with, hopefully, individuals who are immune to the cancer.
