From Wikipedia:

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is located in London, England. It is commonly called the Houses of Parliament after the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two legislative chambers which occupy the building. The palace has been a Grade I listed building since 1970 and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

The site of the current palace may have been used by Cnut during his reign from 1016 to 1035, and from c. 1045 – c. 1050 Edward the Confessor built a palace and the first Westminster Abbey. The oldest surviving part of the palace is Westminster Hall, which dates from the reign of William II (r. 1087–1100).

The building was originally constructed in the eleventh century as a royal palace and was the primary residence of the kings of England until 1512, when a fire destroyed the royal apartments. The monarch moved to the adjacent Palace of Whitehall, but the remainder of the palace continued to serve as the home of the Parliament of England, which had met there since the 13th century. In 1834 a second, larger fire destroyed the majority of the palace, but Westminster Hall was saved and incorporated into the replacement building.

The competition to design the new palace was won by the architect Charles Barry, who chose a Gothic Revival style for the building. Construction started in 1840 and lasted for 30 years, suffering delays, cost overruns, and the deaths of Barry and his assistant, Augustus Pugin. The palace contains chambers for the House of Commons, House of Lords, and the monarch, and has a floor area of 112,476 m2 (1,210,680 sq ft). Extensive repairs had to be made after the Second World War, including rebuilding the destroyed Commons chamber. Despite further conservation work having been carried out since, the palace is in urgent need of major repairs.

From www.bbc.com/travel/article/20200312-why-is-the-palace-of-...:

In 2012, the Houses of Commons and Lords commissioned a study on the condition of the palace, which indicated the need for major restoration work. The current sewage system was installed in 1888; there are more than 1,000 areas that contain asbestos; the chambers are not wheelchair accessible; and even rodents populate the place. Part of the building’s mechanical and electrical systems were installed after World War Two and should have been replaced in the 1980s but were not. Over the years, steam, gas and water services were built on top of each other and next to high-voltage electrical wires. And about 321km of telephone, broadcasting and sound wires need to be upgraded.

The Anston limestone used in the original construction, which was cheap and ideal for carving, began to quickly decay in the 19th Century and was only partially restored in the 1980s and ‘90s. On top of all of that, Barry and Pugin used combustible materials to decorate the palace’s interiors.

hram-tver.ru/index.php/khramy-tverskoj-oblasti/vyshnij-vo...

The temple was built of bricks in 1810-1814 on the island between the two branches of the Tsna River on the site of a dilapidated wooden church in the name of the Epiphany with a chapel of the archistrategos Michael.

The cathedral was closed in 1931, but not destroyed. The building was used for warehouse purposes. The temple was reopened in 1945.

The Damme Canal (French: Canal de Damme. Dutch: Damse Vaart or Napoleonvaart) is a canal in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The canal links Bruges with the Western Scheldt at Sluis (now across the frontier in The Netherlands). It was constructed on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte who wished to create a canal network in order to permit the efficient transport of troops without the risk of disruptive interventions from the British navy.

Following the defeat of Napoleon, the original strategic imperative for the canal was removed. The plans in the Napoleonic era had called for a link to the Scheldt at Breskens. Half a century later the canal opened to traffic in 1856, and the link with the sea had moved to Sluis.

At Damme the canal crosses the Leopold Canal and the Schipdonk Canal, both of which were dug in the middle years of the nineteenth century in order to reduce the vulnerability of the Belgian canal network to Dutch interference, after the achievement in 1830 of Belgian independence. It was necessary to create a system of Siphons because of the differences in water level of the three canals. The canal was used until 1940 when French troops destroyed the siphon system: this put an end to maritime transport on the Damme Canal.

After war use of the canal resumed, but it was used now by pleasure boats, along with a tourist boat connecting Damme and Bruges.

¿Has mirado hacia atrás?

Te he fallado

pero tú también me has fallado

Es muy fácil destruir y condenar

a aquellos a quienes no entiendes

¿Te has preguntado si está justificado?

Es muy fácil destruir y condenar

a aquellos a quienes no entiendes

No muestras remordimiento

Te he fallado

pero tu también me has fallado

Es muy fácil destruir y condenar

a los que no entiendes

¿Te has preguntado si está justificado?

This exceptional church stands beside Avebury Manor, a stone's throw from the great henge and standing stones that draw thousands of visitors to the Wiltshire village of Avebury each year.

The church dates to around the year 1000 AD, and still has its tall, narrow Saxon nave, though this was later altered by the Normans, who also added aisles in the 12th century.

The most obvious survivors of the Saxon building are a pair of round-headed windows at ground level and four circular porthole windows at second-storey level. The chancel was rebuilt in the 13th century, and the chancel arch dates from this time. Separating the chancel from the nave is an original 15th-century rood loft. The rood itself was destroyed at the Reformation, and the base of the screen is Victorian, but the rest is original.

Esquelbecq Castle

The castle was already mentioned in 1299, when the daughter of Thierry d'Esquelbecq, Beatrix, married Gauthier Ghistelles. Their descendants owned the Esquelbecq castle until 1584, when the French lords were forced to sell their possessions in Flanders by the Spanish rulers.

The castle was besieged several times. In 1586, part of the castle was destroyed by Spanish malcontents. From 1606-1610 the castle was rebuilt.

The purchaser and new lord and earl of Esquelbecq was Valentin de Pardieu, governor of Gravelines, who led campaigns with the armies of Charles V. When he died without heirs in 1595, the castle of Esquelbecq was left to his nephew Philippe Levasseur de Guernonval. His descendants owned the castle for the next 225 years. In 1793, the Esquelbecq castle also suffered the wrath of the Patriots. Everything that reminded them of the Ancien Régime was looted, destroyed or removed. At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was ruined by battles and 15 days of enemy occupation. The Guernonval family abandoned it and finally sold it in 1821 to Louis Colombier, a merchant from Lille.

In 1984, the keep collapsed. From 2000 to 2016, restoration work was carried out.

The castle, outbuildings and garden and landscape park are protected and listed on 17-08-1987.

--------------------------

Here's another view of the hotel. Some one asked why the furniture was not taken when people left. One reason is that it was spendy to move it. Difficult also. Bodie sits at the end of a rough graveled road and that is by todays standards. Someone else asked why people left Bodie. There was a fire in 1892 and also in 1932 each time destroying large parts of town. By World War II, the town was abandoned. In 1962, it became a state park. My friend Rachel has such a wonderful relationship with Bolingo. She has spent years developing this connection. The handstand happened while they were doing their normal training exercises. This regular training allows the keepers to elicit certain behaviors in order to provide routine medical checkups and other examinations without the need to sedate them. In a perfect world none of these animals would need to be in captivity, but unfortunately the way we are destroying the natural world it may be the only way to prevent these amazing animals from going extinct. Bolingo has already fathered two children, Oliver and Enzi. This sort of world wide breeding program helps to ensure the long term survival of these animals.

Sestra is a river in the European part of Russia, in the Moscow and Tver regions, the left tributary of the river. Dubna (Volga basin).

It originates among the hills of the Klinsko-Dmitrovskaya ridge not far from the sources of the Klyazma River. It flows into the Dubna River 11 km from its mouth. The length of the river is 138 km, the basin area is 2680 km2 - the largest tributary of the Dubna in terms of basin area and length . All tributaries of the Sestra belong to small rivers and streams, the largest of which are: the right ones - Yakhroma (54 km, 988 km2) and Lutosnya (55 km, 364 km2); the left ones are Krutets (23 km, 166 km2), Yamuga (24 km, 283 km2) and Berezovka (25 km, 86.5 km2). Several ponds and reservoirs have been built on the river - Lake Senezh, ponds of the Senezh fishery, the Klin reservoir and others. In the lower reaches, the Sestra crosses the Moscow Canal; a 40-meter concrete tunnel has been built to pass water, passing under the canal perpendicular to it.

In 1850, the Catherine Canal was opened, connecting the Moscow and Volga rivers, partly the canal passed along the Sestra River (32 km), and partly along the derivation canal along the Sestra River (66.7 km). Part of the Sestra's channel was straightened, 20 wooden and stone sluices were built on it. Unable to withstand competition with the Nikolaev railway from St. Petersburg to Moscow, which opened in 1851, the canal was closed in 1860, the locks were dismantled.

The sister is a flat river with a winding channel, there are straightened sections. Large stones, small rifts, remnants of destroyed dams and piles of destroyed bridges are found in the riverbed. The current speed reaches 0.4 m / s. The channel width in the upper reaches is 10–15 m, the depth is up to 1 m, below the dam of the Klin reservoir, the width is 20–30 m, the depth is up to 1.5 m. In the lower reaches, the width reaches 50 m, the depth is up to 3 m.

It was the start of the rainy season in Costa Rica so this was a welcome clear view of the summit of Arenal volcano, which is often covered in cloud. The volcano is active and violently erupted in 1968, killing 87 people and destroying farmland, property and crops. It is considered a young volcano at approx 7,500 years and is 1,633m high. Haven't seen you in quite a while

I was down the hold just passing time

Last time we met was a low-lit room

We were as close together as a bride and groom

We ate the food, we drank the wine

Everybody having a good time

Except you

You were talking about the end of the world

I took the money

I spiked your drink

You miss too much these days if you stop to think

You lead me on with those innocent eyes

You know I love the element of surprise

In the garden, I was playing the tart

I kissed your lips and broke your heart

You, you were acting

Like it was the end of the world

Love, love, love

Love, love

Love, love, love

Love, love, love

Love, love

Love, love, love

(Love, love, love)

In my dream I was drowning sorrows

When my sorrows, they learned to swim

(Love, love, love)

Surrounding me, going down on me

Spilling over the brim

Waves of regret and waves of joy

I reached out for the one I tried to destroy

You, you said you'd wait

Till the end of the world

It was the 14th day of continuous, round-the-clock, still peaceful protest demanding the resignation of the government, but the authorities were already preparing to use force and destroy the Maidan. Everyone began to talk about the arrival of a special unit from Russia in Kyiv. Tension grew with each passing day. Opposition parties held fruitless negotiations with Yanukovych.

The brightly painted Chac mool holding a basin is on the platform of a temple to Tlaloc, the rain god. The second stage of the Templo Mayor, ca. 1400, was encapsulated by several expansions built over the course of the 15th century. The whole complex was destroyed in 1521 by the Spanish.

A mysterious lone survivor sets up camp in a destroyed building.
