Anteprima Settimana del Design

Salone del Mobile - EuroLuce 2023 - Milano

A selection from my new reportage, through my eyes&taste, my own picked pics with comments, some of my favorites,

plus cool discoveries and few unexpected intriguing surprises while visiting the top noch Interior Design Fair.

This is also the cover of my new Album in progress to be shared in the next days and along the month of May. Tuned !

Exhibitions kermesse entitled "The City of Lights"

Installazione di Maurizio Nannucci

Among the most powerful interpreters of artificial light in contemporary art, ideally invites to imagine the contrary, a creative attitude, virtuous and curious.

This neon light installation, presented in preview at the Salone del mobile, will be definitely positioned and hosted at the Politecnico (Architecture University) in Milano as a sign and symbol of the importance an high value of School and Education.

Nannucci has frequently used neon glass coloured tubes as visual and conceptual Art to show his statements with the strength to last. And when a work becomes lettering or, better, WordArt, viewers are invited to read...

Other quotes by him are: "New Times for other Ideas", "Changing place, changing time, changing thoughts, changing future"...

"Everything might be different"...

"You can imagine the opposite" is a powerful exhortation to think the exact opposite, because, as Bruno Munari used to ask in his Mantra "But can't it be done another way?", another possibility always exists.

Special thanks to my model Celeste (what a better name?) for having posed for me meeting my request to not stand still, but, instead, to keep walking to reach a more dynamic effect in real motion.

"The Lights of Tomorrow" encompasses several exhibitions of the Milano Design Week. This, in particular, has been aimed at showing examples of new research products in the lighting industry with a particular attitude for sustainability, energy saving and reduction of lighting pollution.

My composition merging two installations on exhibit,

right: installation "Spaghetti" by the designer Giandomenico Belotti.

left: two frames of a videomapping on the model chairs called "LaLeggera" projected by the designer Riccardo Blumer. This chair was awarded the "Compasso D'Oro ADI" in 1998 and is exhibited at MoMA NY, at the Triennale Milano and at the Centre G. Pompidou in Paris. It's a stacking chair with structure in solid maple or ash, maple or oak veneer. The internal structure is in injected polyurethane foam and the finishing in clear laquage or in colored stains. Produced & distributed by Alias.

Model: Celeste (She's also a good photographer taking now advanced photography lessons at the Industrial Design University)

Location: Salone del Mobile, Milano - Rho.

Date: Sunday, April 23 2023

Along the month of May, I'll be sharing my top selection of the stands, products, exhibitions and installations spotted and photographed during the Milanese Design Week as well as a review of the events which took place at the Salone del Mobile - EuroLuce 2023 that all bear the title "The City of Lights" under the new concept & headline "Do you speak Design?" conceived for this new issue of the top notch Fair for Interior Design and Lighting.

Milano Design Week

A stop-over in the city centre after the visit at the Salone del Mobile.

Few more happy moments to watch, photograph the Duomo at twilight and attend the amazing ritual of feeding the urban (cosmopolitan!) pigeons (see foreground of my photo). Here many jobless persons, in exchange of a little pocket money, will happily hand you some corn grains and teach the how-to in order to let many pigeons land and stand on your shoulders, arms and even on the head. An occasion of big joy for those, especially the children, who dream of touching and interacting with birds. There's no better simple show than this!

And, with this worldwide famous cliché, my Album and reportage "Anteprima Design Week" ends.

Thanks to every contact and visitor who kindly accompanied my new venture supporting my Album & edited Reportage, published throughout 5 months, which tells about one sole day, a wondrous one. A blessed day for me who was particularly in good shape and energetically empowered at the point to front the trip to Milano and enjoy a very plentiful, bountiful, intense, engaging visiting & shooting day. Lots of inspirations for my own Art too. I was never able to visit this Kermesse any before because its ruling dates were always coincident with my own exhibitions at the Belgioioso Castle of Pavia in both biannual editions but all the fashion designers visiting and buying from me, always reported to me their enthusiasm for the Salone and, finally, I've made it !

I received a lot in just one day, much more than I could ever expect or imagine. Thanks Heavens!!

Thanks so much to anyone who reached out with me experiencing this great opportunity. It's been a pleasure and a privilege for me to share it with you all ! White Angel

Milano Design Week

A stop-over in the city centre after the visit at the Salone del Mobile.

Fore-last picture of my Album and reportage "Anteprima Design Week"

- My diptych -

Left: a portion of Vittorio Emanuele Arcade in Milano (contre-jour). The Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, as always, was very crowded, so I preferred to elude heads and bodies by shooting a backlit upper portion of the central nave, that one leading to the Theatre La Scala. The glass and iron structure is emphasized here and shows how impressive and intricate it is. An amazing architecture which connects the outside and becomes interior, a huge arcade with four crossing hallways that become a meeting & melting pot, a cozy "living room", or, the salotto as it's said in Italian.

Right: a portrait of the Milanese poet, novelist and philosopher Alessandro Manzoni (1785 - 1873) painted in 1841 by Francesco Hayez.

My photo, shot at EuroLuce 2023, of a well done print in real format of the oil on canvas portrait of a notable illustrious Milanese: the Italian poet, novelist and philosopher Alessandro Manzoni (1785 - 1873), author of a very important masterpiece of world literature

"I promessi Sposi" (The Betrothed) which is textbook in all the Italian Junior and High Schools.

This amazing portrait, made with sapient usage of the chiaroscuro of "Cavaraggesque" memory, has been painted in 1841 by

Francesco Hayez, a Venetian painter and (yesss!) photographer.

The original painting is hosted in the Milanese 'Pinacoteca di Brera' and is a public domain work of art.

The Illuminotecnica (Lighting engineering) Company 'Ilmas' thought well to present a huge art print in its stand to show how their illumination system can perfectly brighten even a low-key picture by means of just an invisible adjustable micro light activated through a domotic control unit aimed at modifying, increasing or dimming the light beam oriented towards the subject to be enhanced.

Apart some micro lights, the room was completely dark: shooting the portrait of Manzoni has been challenging and a good exercise without a tripod.

My Light Painting work obtained from 3 different ICM photos in superimposed layers and added to some digital painting (manual brush strokes). A burst of very special Bohemian crystal neon lights.

An entire wallart with just Pacman, 3 red dots and a phrase. It recalled me the logo of Flickr and I added some creativity on the multiple frames. New add-on to my Album "Anteprima Design Week" (Salone del Mobile - Milano, Rho).

The phrase says "It does not have to seem Greek to you", which I understand but lost the connection with the meaning as on this installation there was no reference neither to the maker nor to the Company exhibiting in that area. So, I'll leave my photo as a total abstraction, yet found it cool the weird link to Flickr ;-) Oh, by the way, I love the Greek language, esp. Old Greek ;-)

PAC-MAN, originally known as Puck-Man in Japan, is a video game created by Tōru Iwatani and produced by Namco in 1980 in the arcade hall format.
