I've thought it might make sense to apply the logic to Design and its various main stakeholders as well.
Accordingly from this perspective Design in embedded in a sort of eco-system: The Enterprise, the Economy as such as well as Academic Research.
After all quite a few topics/issues in life seem to follow a sort of
pig cycle. Those of us regularly following the business press know
that this is true for Design as well. So no surprise that Design as an
'artefact' as well as a 'process' is all over the place (again) these
days.
This does not make life easier for the Design Management profession
for two reasons: a) What is it exactly that needs to be 'managed' and
b) Where do we draw the line of the borders of Design?
In order to get a better understanding of an answer to these questions
we've framed Design in a sort of eco-system: Enterprise, Economy as
well as Academic Research and tried to explain the interdependencies
in the following chart.
By asking the 'What, How & Why' questions and relating them to design
functions Design Managers create meaning for both the Enterprise as
well as the Economic sphere on several layers and functions.
