A spectacular and distinctive flycatcher, the bright red Vermilion Flycatcher inhabits riparian areas and scrub in the southwestern United States and southward. It perches conspicuously, making periodic flights to nab insect prey.
The male Vermilion Flycatcher often seeks to initiate copulation by delivering a butterfly or other showy insect to the female.
The oldest recorded Vermillion Flycatcher was a male, and at least 4 years, 6 months old when he was shot in Mexico in 1972, the same country where he had been banded.

On 29 January 1971, the first to Royal Air Force Puma helicopters were delivered into service.
To commemorate 50 years of service, Puma HC Mk2 XW224 has been given a unique new paint scheme.
The engine housing boasts the badges of all the squadrons who have flown the Puma, both as a HC Mk 1 and a HC Mk 2;
The tail fin is emblazoned with the union flag;
The standard Royal Air Force logo on the cabin door has been replaced with the bespoke Puma 50 logo.

The church has been delivered to the museum from Kysorychi village in Rokytnivskyi district of Rivnenska Region. It was built by local masters at the end of 18th Century. According to M. Teodorovych, its tops were changes in 1871, and it became one-domed instead of three-domed. Reports of Emperor’s archeological expedition witness that at the beginning of 20th Century (in 1909) the church had to be dismounted due to its emergency state. Although, it was not broken down due to high artistic value of its iconostasis. The iconostasis did not survive until nowadays, except for only four fragments of a unique hewn altar.
As of the moment of purchase there of by the museum in 1978, there were no domes at all. In this connection, they have been re-made according to Polissia typology. The reconstruction was headed by the author of Polissia display, Vergovskyi S.V., inasmuch contours of old ones remained unknown.
This is a religious building; its dimensions are 15.9 x 7.3 m; total area: 116.07 square meters.
This is a building of three rooms, built of pine-tree timbers. The walls are fixed with halving cutouts, made in upper parts of the timbers. The square aisle of the church is its smallest room (4.9 x 4.9), the nave is also square and the biggest one (7.3 x 7.3); the altar room is also almost square (5.3 x 5). The central part is the widest one; its walls extend beyond the side timbers. The church is not covered with planks. The all three floors thereof are tent-shaped. The whole construction is supported by oak piles vidzemky, imbedded around the perimeter.
The premises of the church house a permanent exposition “Religion antiques of Ukraine”. It displays the pieces of arts: icons, triple candleholders, sculptures, church’ bowls of 18th – 20th Century.

Належить до архаїчного типу, поширеного на Поліссі — тризрубна, завершена трьома шатровими розділами з невеликими маківками.
За М. Теодоровичем її верхи були змінені у 1871 р. і церква з триверхої стала одноверхою. З повідомлень імператорської археологічної комісії випливає, що вже на початку ХХ ст. (у 1909 р.) церкву цю хотіли розібрати у зв’язку з аварійним станом. Однак, через високу мистецьку цінність її іконостасу церкву залишили цілою. На сьогодення іконостас не зберігся, а до наших днів дійшли лише чотири фрагменти унікального рубленого престолу.
На момент купівлі музеєм у 1978 р. верхи в ній були відсутні. У зв’язку з цим вони були заново виконані за поліською типологією під керівництвом автора експозиції «Полісся» Верговського С.В., оскільки абриси старих лишилися невідомими.

Будівля у плані трикамерна, зведена з соснового кругляка. При спорудженні зрубу застосована врубка «в чашку», драчка вибрана у верхніх частинах колод. Квадратний у плані бабинець церкви найменший за розмірами (4,9 х 4,9 м.), нава також у плані квадратна – найбільша за розмірами (7,3 х 7,3 м.), вівтар у плані чотирикутний (5,3 х 5 м.).
Центральна частина по ширині найбільша і виступає стінами за бічні зруби. Церква не шальована. Три її верхи шатрового типу. Уся споруда тримається на дубових стоянах-відземках, закопаних по периметру у землю.
У приміщенні церкви експонується постійно діюча виставка «Церковні старожитності України» в якій експонуються твори мистецтва: ікони, троєсвічники, скульптури, церковні карнавки ХУІІІ-ХХ ст.

Malin Head is located on the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland and is the most northerly point of the island of Ireland.
Malin Head gives its name to the Malin sea area. There is a weather station on the head, which is one of 22 such stations whose reports are broadcast as part of the BBC Shipping Forecast.
I love to listen to the shipping forecast, even though I don't fully understand it. It sounds like some sort of nautical poetry full of remote, wild coastal names and obscure weather terminology.
Malin:
Wind - West 5 to 7, then backing southwest 4 or 5 later.
Sea State - Rough or very rough.
Weather - Occasional rain or showers.
Visibility - Good, occasionally moderate.
When I hear it, I imagine some poor mariners, tossed and battered by the elements, listening to the same broadcast, hoping for some good news of better weather to come.

A friend and I heard Conrail local WJAL-18 on the scanner and decided to follow it on an unusual Saturday run. WJAL-18 was a turn from Allentown, Pennsylvania, serving the former Lackawanna Phillipsburg Branch, going as far as Dover, New Jersey. The train had a GP30 leader, and was about the only train that used the former Jersey Central bridge over the Delaware River. We waited at an elevated vantage point to shoot the local, only to receive a big disappointment. The crew dropped a car and ran around it in Easton, and then pushed it to set out at a facing-point switch on the DL&W. The power eventually uncoupled from the trailing cars at the end of the bridge to deliver the car, but we never had the opportunity to get a clean shot on the bridge.
Today, the Lehigh Valley bridge in the foreground is abandoned due t structural issues, and Norfolk Southern trains between Allentown and Oak Island use the CNJ bridge.
Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific train 313 rolls through the forests of Minnesota as it approaches Shelton Junction on September 21, 1991. The northbound train is powered by a nice matching set of DW&P power and is viewed from the top of an old slag hill.
A detail from a laboratory at the Scheufelen paper mill, which was founded in Lenningen in 1855. Until April 2018, the mill produced coated format and roll papers of superior quality with a workforce of around 340 employees. An example is the non combustible "moon paper", which was developed for NASA's Saturn 11 mission.The successor company had to file for insolvency in February 2019. The 250,000 square meter company site is to be converted into a residential and commercial quarter. However, some of the factory facilities still exist.

Conrail's hotshot Mail-3 was curving along the Juniata River behind a typical six-pack of high-horsepower EMD and GE four axle motors.
The hot trailer trains were a constant sight along the Middle Division on what was once the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad and the less successful Penn Central.
This classic trackage is now unfortunately Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line.

Delivered new to Alitalia in August 1992. (I-DUPU). Converted to freigther for Alitalia Cargo in April 2006. Over to Centurion Cargo in November 2009. Broken up in March 2015 at Hondo Airport.
Delivered as a HC-144A but upgraded in 2022 to HC-144B standard, which encompasses the Ocean Sentry Refresh (OSR) modifications (installation of a new flight management system, which serves as the primary avionics computer for communication control, navigation and equipment monitoring) and the Minotaur mission system, which integrates installed sensors and radar and provides dramatically improved data fusion as well as information-processing and sharing capabilities.
GB: In 1977 ASEA delivered 6 class Rm locomotives to SJ. They are much like the Rc4 locomotives but have additional weight to have more adhesion. they were meant to succeed the Dm3 locomotives on the ore line and for some time they actually hauled ore trains, but this was not succesfull. In the 198ties they wandered to other freight traffic. in 2023 the 6 locomotives Rm 1257-1262 were sold to TAGAB.
On the picture is an empty ore train Narvik - Kiruna approaching Vassijaure with two Rm-locos hauling, the first of which Rm 1259. the loco in the middle is an Rc4. The weather was freezing cold, worsened by strong winds. To take the picture I took cross country ski's and skied my way to this photo spot.

Die Reihe Rm war als Nachfolger für die dreiteiligen Loks der Baureihe Dm3 gedacht und einige Jahre wurden sie im Erzverkehrs Kiruna - Narvik eingesetzt. Erfolgreich war dies aber nicht. In den 80er Jahren wanderten die Loks in anderen Güteverkehre. In 2023 wurde die sachs Loks (Rm 1257-1262) an TAGAB verkauft.
Auf dem Foto ist ein leerer Erzzug Narvik - Kiruna zu sehen, bespannt mit zwei Loks der Baureihe Rm, die erste die Rm 1259. die mittlere Lok ist eine Rc4. an jenem 24. März 1994 war es bitterlich kalt, was noch verschlimmert wurde durch starken Windböen. Ich hatte in Riksgränsen Langlaufskis gemietet und bin skifahrend zum Fotopunkt gekommen.

In the mid-90s CP would run a transfer from Humboldt to Northtown in the late afternoon. Here Soo GP30C 4302 uses the North Receiver to deliver cars to Northtown on May 27, 1995.
And if the mid-90s date doesn't make me feel old enough, look at the CP cement cars this CAT is dragging in for interchange.
By the late 90s, CP would run this transfer in the morning, which I also shot many over the Mississippi. This transfer was called the BN Transfer on CP property and the Shoreham Soo once they called for a track on the BN.
RES 47761 rounds the curve at Somerton, Newport with the afternoon post train. Llanwern still dominates the background at this time. 47761 was a Class 47/4, No. 47564, the loco had carried the name "Colossus".

As far as I can tell, there are no roads that lead to these houses. They're only accessible by boat. We took a very interesting cruise on a boat that delivered supplies, food, mail, etc. to the communities along the Alberni Inlet on Vancouver Island.
I don't know what happened to this caribou's antler, but I thought it made him kind of special. Maybe Santa will choose him as one of his reindeer to help deliver Christmas presents! Taken in Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Canada in the Southern Arctic.
