Union Pacific 9336, 9316, and 6242 pull 90 loads of Sufco longwall coal along 10,883 ft. Bald Mountain, east of Starr, Utah the evening of June 23, 1991. The train loaded earlier in the day at Sharp, Utah, and will be delivered the following day to the North Valmy Generating Station in Nevada.

A mix of Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern/TFM GE locomotives pull a grain train through the Jordan Narrows west of Mesa, Utah the evening of Sept. 26, 2007.

The Goldfish was much more likely to have been a castaway in a retention pond than someone's pet. When removed from a fish bowl and dumped in a large pond or artificial lake, a child's Goldfish can grow this big.

It was dark and beginning to drizzle when this was taken but the Goldfish really stands out in the low light. They must be very easy for Ospreys to spot in the artificial ponds and fake "lakes" of many housing developments.

The only vaguely pirate reference I could find, by Adam and the Ants, I thought this latest creation looked a bit like walking the plank. I tried balances with other planks, but the stones were so heavy they snapped. It was also blowing a gale, so not great for balancing round stones.

today went back to the city with my son, we missed him already.

Grey Catbirds ,Mom and Dad showing fine parental skills ,delivering Moth ,Blackberry and other goodies to their hungry chicks. They also chased away Cardinals 3 times ,a Blue Jay and they played the broken wings routine to people passing by. At the Ramble ,Central park.

Wybung Head, perched in the Munmorah State Conservation Area, is the kind of place that earns its name. "Wybung" is a local Aboriginal word meaning "Dangerous Sea," and this headland delivers on that promise with sheer, unfenced cliffs and an ocean that is perpetually trying to lull unwary rock fisherman, and photographers, to their grave.

The headland offers 270-degree views of the coastline, and on a clear day, you can see for miles—just don’t get too close to those crumbly edges. Whale watchers and ocean gazers find plenty to love here. However, shade and shelter are entirely absent, and the wind shows no mercy. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon when the temperature soared into the 30s °C and the wind gusted at 40 km/h. I’ve never felt closer to understanding life inside an air fryer.

After edging uncomfortably close to the edge of the crumbly cliffs at the end of the headland for the obligatory heart-stopping views, we decided to head down to the cheerily named Deadman’s Beach. Because why wouldn’t you follow up a stop at "Dangerous Sea" with a jaunt to "Deadman’s Beach"? “Track” is a generous term—it’s more like a gravity experiment with added rocks. From there, we scrambled around the rockshelf to Frazer Beach for a swim. The ocean has never felt so refreshing! The crowd (about a dozen people) wasn’t ideal, but hey, its school holidays, and the nearby campground explains the human influx.

This photo captures Wybung Head itself, though its sheer scale is hard to convey. If you squint, you might spot a post with a lifejacket at the end of the rockshelf to the bottom right of Wybung, a small but poignant reminder of the dangers of the seas at this beautiful place.

A friend and I heard Conrail local WJAL-18 on the scanner and decided to follow it on an unusual Saturday run. WJAL-18 was a turn from Allentown, Pennsylvania, serving the former Lackawanna Phillipsburg Branch, going as far as Dover, New Jersey. The train had a GP30 leader, and was about the only train that used the former Jersey Central bridge over the Delaware River. We waited at an elevated vantage point to shoot the local, only to receive a big disappointment. The crew dropped a car and ran around it in Easton, and then pushed it to set out at a facing-point switch on the DL&W. The power eventually uncoupled from the trailing cars at the end of the bridge to deliver the car, but we never had the opportunity to get a clean shot on the bridge.

Today, the Lehigh Valley bridge in the foreground is abandoned due t structural issues, and Norfolk Southern trains between Allentown and Oak Island use the CNJ bridge.

The hot trailer trains were a constant sight along the Middle Division on what was once the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad and the less successful Penn Central.

This classic trackage is now unfortunately Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line.

After a brief pause, 2335 gets underway at Edungalba with the twice-weekly container service to Rockhampton from Longreach as 6391.

Once a month, this service extends onto Winton, as well as regularly stopping off at Barcaldine and Alpha to drop loading. This train operates loaded from Rockhampton to deliver supplies to various towns.

Thru the windshield

Barely a month old, WM SD45 #7445 is seen wearing it's as-delivered red, white, and black paint scheme on July 13th 1969 at Port Covington. You'll notice the initial lack of black paint over the grills and radius of the long hood, and the lack of white background behind the road numbers. This engine later became CSX 4618 and was retired circa 2007. It was purchased by the George's Creek Central, but it appears it arrived at Metro East Industries in St. Louis ten years ago and never left. Who knows what the future holds for this one. Delivered to the USN in 1955 as 141008. 68 years latter this wonderful airframe is still earning revenue with Conquest Air flying a daily service from Opa Locka to Nassau. What I like, is it still retains its USN scheme.

RES 47761 rounds the curve at Somerton, Newport with the afternoon post train. Llanwern still dominates the background at this time. 47761 was a Class 47/4, No. 47564, the loco had carried the name "Colossus".

An uncommon Saturday session on the Burna Harbor Railroad yielded an opportunity to shoot from the highway bridge leading into the port. Cliffs Steel forms the backdrop for BHS dropping down the hill with 15 cars for Norfolk Southern.
