Wood Warbler - Phylloscopus sibilatrix
The wood warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix) is a common and widespread leaf warbler which breeds throughout northern and temperate Europe, and just into the extreme west of Asia in the southern Ural Mountains.
This warbler is strongly migratory and the entire population winters in tropical Africa.
It is a summer visitor to the United Kingdom, seen from April until August. It has declined there in recent years. It is now very rare in Ireland, where only one or two pairs are recorded breeding in most years, usually in County Wicklow.
Various factors associated with forest structure, including slope, forest cover, proportion of broad-leaf forest, canopy height and forest edge length, all influenced the occupancy rates of this declining forest species. Conservation measures are therefore required that provide and maintain the wood warblers preferred forest structure. There is also a preference for forest in the non-breeding season, however this habitat is declining in wintering areas such as Ghana. Despite the decline in forest habitats, there has been no change in number of wood warblers as it appears that this species can use degraded habitats, such as well-wooded farms. However, further loss of trees will likely have a negative impact on this species in the future
Red Throated Diver - Gavia stellata)
Norfolk
The red-throated loon (North
America) or red-throated diver (Britain and Ireland) (Gavia stellata) is a migratory aquatic bird found in the northern hemisphere. The most widely distributed member of the loon or diver family, it breeds primarily in Arctic regions, and winters in northern coastal waters.
The red-throated loon is the smallest and lightest of the world's loons. In winter, it is a nondescript bird, greyish above fading to white below.
During the breeding season, it acquires the distinctive reddish throat patch which is the basis for its common name. Fish form the bulk of its diet, though amphibians, invertebrates, and plant material are sometimes eaten as well.
A monogamous species, red-throated loons form long-term pair bonds. Both members of the pair help to build the nest, incubate the eggs (generally two per clutch), and feed the hatched young.
The red-throated loon has a large global population and a significant global range, though some populations are declining. Oil spills, habitat degradation, pollution, and fishing nets are among the major threats this species faces. Natural predators—including various gull species, and both red and Arctic foxes, will take eggs and young. The species is protected by international treaties.

As tourism increases and population centers encroach, these beautiful geologic formations are slowly being degraded by some peoples' willingness to disregard the signage that explicitly states not to climb on the formations. There have been indications that tourism to this park may soon be regulated, because of the few people that can't temper the compulsion to climb upon and take pictures on the formations.
Kingfishers are small unmistakable bright blue and orange birds of slow moving or still water. They fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water's surface. They are vulnerable to hard winters and habitat degradation through pollution or unsympathetic management of watercourses. Kingfishers are amber listed because of their unfavourable conservation status in Europe. They are also listed as a Schedule 1 species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act offering them additional protection. (RSPB)
Lake Illawarra (Aboriginal Tharawal language: various adaptions of Elouera, Eloura, or Allowrie; Illa, Wurra, or Warra meaning pleasant place near the sea, or, high place near the sea, or, white clay mountain), an open and trained intermediate wave dominated barrier estuary or large coastal lagoon, is located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, situated about 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of Sydney, Australia. The lake environment is administered by the Lake Illawarra Authority, a New South Wales statutory authority established pursuant to the Lake Illawarra Authority Act 1987 (NSW) with the aim of transforming the degraded waters and foreshores of Lake Illawarra into an attractive recreational and tourist resource. Lake Illawarra is popular for recreational fishing, prawning and sailing. On 12 January 2009, it is suspected a man was bitten by a bull shark whilst snorkelling at Windang, near the mouth of Lake Illawarra. Birds found at the lake include pelicans, cormorants, musk ducks, hoary-headed grebes, black swans, black ducks, grey teal ducks, herons, ibises and spoonbills. 16516
Most people do not immediate think of nylon when they think about plastic pollution, but nylon is another of the wide variety of polymers made from petroleum, contributing to the plastics that pollute the ocean. In time, nylon degrades in sunlight to thin fibers and small particles, easily ingested by wildlife. If not digested it can get wrapped around the poor gannets beak leaving then unable to catch food and feed.

Matera :Partial panorama of the district inhabited by Albanian and Serb-Croat immigrants ,who arrived following the expansion of the Ottoman Empire
Part 2: In the sixteenth century Matera was enriched with a new farmhouse in the south-east inhabited by Albanian and Serbo-Croat refugees. The current aspect of the city has not always existed, but has gradually grown with the changing historical facts that affected the city. When this was no longer able to meet its needs, the district of Piano (that of Corso and Piazza Vittorio to be clear).
In 1672 the seminary was built by Archbishop Lanfranchi -The monastery and the Church of S.Chiara (1703) -The church of the Annunziata (1748) - The church of S.Francesco di Paola (1774) -The church of S. Lucia - the municipal seat in Piazza del Sedile was reorganized.
But the construction of the district of the Piano highlights the difference between the 2 cities. That of the Piano, a new city with offices, shops and large spaces, with buildings inhabited by the new emerging classes. On the other, a reality, that of the Sassi, suffocated by the few spaces, difficult to inhabit, in which the less affluent classes lived. At the end of the eighteenth century, a ghettoization of the Sassi was recorded. This led to consequences of no small importance in the two districts. rock chapels, and everything was maintained thanks to the frequentation of the faithful. Now a slow degradation action began due to the construction of churches and convents in the district of the Piano and all the patrimony that until then had been preserved thanks to popular devotion is abandoned. Churches often emptied of works of art and their religious content, are adapted to houses, stables and other uses. The churches that had been a meeting point (Cenobi, Casali, villages) outside and surrounding the town, the connective tissue of the Sassi (now become Urban) were abandoned to the oblivion of the districts and its inhabitants.

In the beginning, the trees were green...

Household dust is a mix of many tiny particles from both inside and outside your home. It’s less mysterious than it sounds—more like a microscopic scrapbook of daily life.
Main sources of household dust
1. Dead skin cells (the biggest contributor)
Humans constantly shed skin. These tiny flakes break down, mix with other particles, and settle as dust. Pets add even more skin cells and dander.
2. Fabric fibers
Clothes, carpets, furniture, curtains, and bedding slowly shed microscopic fibers as they’re used and washed. Walking across a rug or sitting on a couch releases more.
3. Dirt and soil from outdoors
Dust, soil, pollen, and pollutants are tracked in on shoes, blown in through open windows, or carried inside on clothing and pets.
4. Pollen and plant material
Seasonal pollen enters from outside and becomes part of household dust, especially in spring and summer.
5. Insect debris
Tiny fragments from insects—such as dead insects, shed exoskeletons, and droppings—are a normal (if unpleasant) component.
6. Dust mites and their waste
Dust mites thrive in warm, humid homes, especially in bedding and upholstery. Their waste particles become airborne and contribute to dust.
7. Smoke and combustion particles
Cooking, candles, fireplaces, and smoking release fine particles that settle onto surfaces.
8. Building materials
As homes age, materials like drywall, paint, insulation, and even electronics slowly degrade and shed microscopic particles.
Why dust keeps coming back
Dust forms continuously because these sources never stop. Even in a sealed, newly cleaned room, dust will reappear as people move, fabrics rub together, and air circulates—like snow slowly falling indoors.
All very interesting but I wish there was a way to avoid it.
