North America is truly blessed when it comes to natural wonders and geographical marvels. A trip across this mammoth, diverse and beautiful country offers magnificent opportunities to explore rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, canyons, valleys and volcanoes.

Back to work after a long weekend I took the evening hours for a ride with the scooter of my son to take some shots. My tour went into the countryside of the Melle-Area in Lower Saxony. Enjoying the warm evening I read that this May is the warmest ever in recorded meteorological history. At least in Northwest Germany. Day temperatures in the mid-twenties and 10+ hours of sunshine are a pleasure for all of us. To be continued...

And our prayers were heard. Instantly and with immediate effect. In a biogeographic definition, paramo is any intertropical mountain ecosystem, characterized by shrubby vegetation that generally occurs from altitudes of about 3,000 to 4,000 meters or up to 5,000 meters, that is, in regions above the forest line. continuous but still below the permanent snow line. It is found in East Africa, New Guinea, and Central and South America. However, since in each of these regions this ecosystem has a specific name, when discussing Paramos, we refer specifically to Andean Paramos.
In this strict sense of the term, all Paramos are located in the neotropical zone, mainly in northwestern South America, present in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. The ecosystem occupies over 30,000 km² of South America and represents 7% of Ecuador's territory. In absolute terms, Colombia is home to 50% of the extent of Paramos (in its three branches of the Andes) and the largest Paramo in the world (Sumapaz).
Paramos' climate is characterized by wide daily fluctuations in temperature and humidity. In general, cold and humid, can undergo a sudden and drastic change in which temperatures fluctuate from below freezing to 30 ° C plus in a daily freeze-thaw cycle. High altitude in tropical locations produces a special, cold, low air density atmosphere that allows for greater dispersion of ultraviolet radiation (light and heat). This climate can be summed up in the phrase "winter every night and summer every day."
In Paramo ecosystems, soils are generally recent, of glacial and volcanic origin, and many are still in formation. Its structure is a combination of organic material that decomposes very slowly in cold weather with volcanic ash. They usually have low pH (acidity) because of the abundance of moisture and high content of organic matter. These characteristics contribute to soil water retention, which in turn is the basis of an essential environmental service: the constant storage and distribution of clean water to lower places.
The largest and most known area is the Páramo grass, which covers large areas of the mountain ranges. It extends from approximately 3,500 to 4,100 m in height, and is mainly composed of grasses and small shrubs.

I wished I had photographed at this location when I was in the Badlands 3 years before, but it had rained and the ground was downright slippery. So, three years later, I went right to it. One prob though when I was scouting in daylight - I didn't have my compass. I'm worthless without my compass. So, when I returned after dark, I immediately could see I was way off the mark in terms of the direction of the Milky Way. Consequently I had to bumble around in the dark looking for compositions. Bumbling around amongst hoodoos and pinnacles is, for me, disorienting, and dropping breadcrumbs isn't gonna help me find my car when I'm finished. This wasn't my favorite composition in terms of my lighting - hard to get definition and texture in that uneven rock without causing unwanted black holes. BUT, this frame does have a swell meteor flashing through it. Maybe give it a click to view larger as the rock texture does show up a bit. I think I see my car out there in the low right corner too. 😉

I visited Melusina Parkin's exhibition " Forgotten Things" at the Kondor Art Gallery, and how it happened it inspired me to shoot this? if you have any clue, please tell me... All I can guess is Melusina Parkin is an inspiring photographer!
Apps: I used Photoshop Express to remove some haze, which gave more definition to the sky. Then overlaid that sky onto the original in Pixelmator. I used Lightroom to remove some noise, and finished with a frame in PhotoToaster.
This is part of a series of images which I call Vignettes of Saskatchewan. The definition of a vignette is "a small illustration or portrait photograph that fades into its background without a definite border". I hope that what I post appears to you close enough to the definition.

So I went Spider Hunting last night and thankfully, despite the frequent thunderstorms as of late, a good few webs with occupants were still available. Albeit some were at incredibly awkward angles, this ferocious girl was tucking into its most recent capture as I came by, her fangs are quite visible which I was happy about, as so often I come across them and they're already masticating down on whatever they caught that day, so I end up with an interesting face but the fangs are occupied with a half devoured bug.
