Old flood valves along the Rock River near Hillsdale,IL. The Rock floods the area annually,but this year has proved to be especially bad. And with 2-4" more rain expected in the area this week,there is no end in sight. These release valves are in many spots along the river,most dump into irrigation ditches.No need for irrigation this year so far!
In September 1958, The Public Establishment for Installation of La Défense (EPAD) buildings (of which the Esso Tower was the very first) were built and began to slowly replace the city's factories, shanties, and even a few farms.

La Défense is a modern high-rise and business district in the west of Paris and is considered the largest office city in Europe. It is located outside the historic center, belongs administratively to Courbevoie, Nanterre, and Puteaux, and forms the extension of the Louvre–Champs-Élysées–Arc de Triomphe axis.
It is characterized by the many skyscrapers of international corporations, the Grande Arche as a modern triumphal arch, and large shopping centers such as “Les 4 Temps” with stores open on Sundays. The district has a very urban and futuristic feel, combining offices, shopping, art in public spaces, and a spectacular view of downtown Paris from the Grande Arche.

The common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a wild member of the pig family (Suidae) found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa.
The common warthog is the only pig species that has adapted to grazing and savanna habitats. Its diet is omnivorous, composed of grasses, roots, berries and other fruits, bark, fungi, insects, eggs and carrion. During the wet seasons, warthogs graze on short perennial grasses. During the dry seasons, they subsist on bulbs, rhizomes, and nutritious roots.
Although they can dig their own burrows, they commonly occupy abandoned burrows of aardvarks and other animals. The common warthog reverses into burrows, with its head facing the opening and ready to burst out if necessary.
Although capable of fighting (males aggressively fight each other during mating season), the common warthog's primary defense is to flee by means of fast sprinting. The common warthog's main predators are humans, lions, leopards, cheetahs, crocodiles, wild dogs and hyenas.
Common warthogs are not territorial, but instead occupy a home range. Common warthogs live in groups called sounders. Females live in sounders with their young and with other females. Subadult males associate in bachelor groups, but live alone when they become adults. – Wikipedia

Impenetrable Defense - I hadn't visited the Osprey since March, so made the long trip out early in the morning. This mother Osprey was in full defense mode, chasing off two Bald Eagles and an intruder Osprey from her nest site. At one point, the Bald Eagle did a full spin-cycle in mid-air to shake the Osprey! I was practicing holding my camera down and using the flip screen to track the Osprey in flight. It's a challenge, but the best way to achieve a pleasing background. Overall, it was a beautiful morning out and I look forward to trying for my goal fish images next go-around.

The La Defense office complex is well integrated with the larger urban plan. Both its height and the entrances into the courtyards tie in with the larger site. The external facade reflects the urban context, while the interior facades of the courtyards have been designed with the office tenants in mind. These facades are clad with glass panels with an integrated multicoloured foil. The
colour reflected changes with the time of day and the angle of incident sunlight, brightening the courtyards.
