This dress is what I presume to be some sort of apron or smock... I found it among the rack of house dresses and the construction is similar to some other smocks of seen before the only difference is that this one fits quite well methinks.

Tonight I'm going to wander until I find a good spot to watch the fireworks for Bastille Day. I'm not a huge fan of fireworks, but since I'm leaving Paris soon, I figure I might as well.

Reason #1. Instant Halloween costume ;)
You may scoff at my "costume" but as a kid I experienced several Halloweens where nobody knew who I was. For you see, I'd always base my fairytale costumes on book illustrations rather than the Disney versions. Oh how the child version of me was amazed that nobody bothered to read books.... Though my outfit is not based on any book - it's just what I felt that a real little red riding hood would wear. If she had access to my closet that is ;)
The trench and dress I'm wearing are probably my two favorite pieces that I obtained while in Paris. Besides being bright red, I think the buttons on the trench look like peppermint candies. The dress is made out of this comfortable textured knit and feels like I'm wearing my pjs!

I thrifted this dress last Friday on my most recent Salvation Army adventure. When I was getting dressed this morning to my dismay for some reason all my regular belts looked strange with the dress. It might be due to the cut of the dress or maybe I was just having one of those "girl" moments.
Either way, digging around the back of my closet I uncovered this little strip of a belt. Something that I thrifted almost a year ago for around one euro. It had never seen the light of day. The belt is on the small side, so it could only be worn on a specific part of my waist and the narrow width looked awkward whenever I tried it on with any of my outfits. After a couple of months I figured I'd never find anything that I thought looked right with it but never had the heart to give it away.
As you've probably figured out by now. I tried it on with my stubborn dress and thought they looked like they were meant for each other ;)

More from Rush Creek. This is a rub. Rubs are made by buck deer to mark their territory during the Rut, mating season. It is made by the buck rubbing his antlers against a tree.
Friday night I went to a show with mister.boyfriend. No matter how much I love this outfit, the photo gods were against me (it was practically dark, I was cold). I might just have to wear it again for a better picture ;)
Am I the only that gets some sort of strange satisfaction when I'm dressed up for the evening with the knowledge that my entire outfit cost less than $20 and most people are wearing shoes that cost more than that?

It's been a little over a month since my big move and about time I stop being lazy about documenting my outfits. I've been finding some nice odds and ends rummaging around my new location. Such as this tapestry handbag (25 cents at a tag sale) and the enameled flower pin ($3 antique store).

Holy geeze! I found me some thrifted tights that actually fit!!
I went into depth about it on my blog but to summarize....
- The raspberry tights look fantastic with the dress that I thrifted on the same trip.
- Despite his initial reservations, mister.boyfriend is thrilled by the new dress.
- My new dress made for a very comfortable morning while working on the computer.
When I left the house in the afternoon, I paired the dress with my vintage wool blazer. One of the few purchases I made off of the French Ebay, according to the seller the jacket was part of an usherettes uniform at a theater in Paris during the 1940's.

Today I went on an adventure to a house outside of Paris where I used to rent a room. Supposedly there was stuff of mine still floating around in the basement and I went to investigate. While structurally the house itself is quite lovely, it unfortunately fell to a degree of neglect over the years. A friend was recently named the "landlord" of the house and he has done quite a bit of cleaning. Seeing the house today I noticed quite a change from the massive piles of crap that were floating around when I lived there :P
The dress I wore is made from this lovely almost sheer cotton fabric with a woven stripe pattern. My necklace is more or less a metal bit that I just put on a chain. I periodically acquire interesting bits of metal with the intention of creating necklaces... but with the lack of proper work space in my flat (my apartment is TINY), I've yet to get around to such activities.

Necklace: "pendant": fleamarket / chain: garage sale
I spent most of the day doing stuff around the house with mister.boyfriend. He worked on refinishing a desk we picked up at a tag sale some weeks ago and I milled around between helping, digging around stuff abandoned in the garage by previous tenets, and organizing the chaos that is the second half of our bedroom.

I try not to swear on public forums.... but man I was _______ hot today. It was one of those days where I would have been happy flitting around in a floaty hippie dress, but I had lunch with some friends who always look "polished" no matter what's going on. So while my outfit did not make me that much warmer that some sort of flowy dress, I would have still preferred near-nudity :P

I forgot to take a picture, but I am wearing a gear on a chain as a necklace.
Just a few days ago I was wandering around with a wool sweater on and now I'm back in short sleeves and bare legged. Despite not having the immediate need for one (ahem), I found a fantastic vintage coat today at the Salvation Army. Black and wool, just what I'll need once the winter weather hits.

This young man was riding under the speed limit in the curb lane but I'm sure he only slowed down to knock the ash off his cigar!
His crash helmet is a baseball cap on backwards.
Riding gear T shirt and jeans. The boots look like good leather cowboy boots a good decision.
Riding a Harley Davidson.
I hope no deer leep out in his pathway.
I've been spending too much time at my flat trying to get ready for the move. So as of late most of my outfits have been less than thrilling. This is one of those randomly thrown together while half-sleep outfits but I quite like it...

Despite knowing of only one Cinderella song, I thrifted this tee anyways. How can you go wrong with a rainbow skull for fifty cents?
I went a bit photo crazy (while waiting for water to boil) with this outfit but the usual standing pose seemed to be the most flattering shot for the outfit. deersign.blogspot.com

I'm trying to make up my mind about this London Fog trench that I thrifted some weeks back. It's about a size too big and with the removable insulating liner in, it looks extra puffy on me. I like the color, I like how it looks open, but I think it's sort of silly to wear a trench that you can only wear open? and the next item to mull over is...
What do I do with the darned thing if I don't wear it?

Over the last 24 hours, I've successfully killed 3 different light bulbs in the apartment. Not that I did anything to them.... It must have been my amazing telekinetic powers!
The skirt I'm wearing today is just a tad too big for me, combined with the fact that the cotton material has a quite a bit of stretch as well, the skirt tends to migrate a bit. So I was glad that my errands were minimal otherwise the constant walking may have eventually made the skirt fall off :P - I almost wore it as a dress, the cut lends itself nicely to such a fit but it was not that warm today. So I opted for a tee instead.
The pattern on the skirt reminds me of finger painting. Don't you think?

If you zoom in and look close you can see individual hoof marks. This scrape is about 20 feet off from a well traveled deer trail.
from: www.nighthawkpublications.com/journal/journal171-5.htm
Many articles have been written and much information is available on hunting deer during the mating season (the rut). One of the most- familiar guides to taking antlered whitetails in the rut has been scrape hunting. Scrapes are pawed-up places in the earth with a strong urine smell, hooked bushes and crushed leaves and twigs over the scrape that act like a stop sign for does ready to be bred. A doe will be in heat for 30 hours, and then come back in heat 28 days later. Bucks frequent these places to meet willing does during the rut. So scrapes are spots that bucks will return to meet does periodically. Oftentimes the freshness of the scrape will reveal the frequency with which a buck visits the scrape. One of the best methods to determine how fresh a scrape is, is to pick up a handful of the pawed-up earth and smell the earth. A strong urine smell will indicate a fresh scrape since a buck generally urinates in the scrape each time he checks it.
