FLorida sunsets can be incredibly beautiful. This seascape captured by iPhone February 1, 2019

With TS Erika coming our way, this ocean view is going to change very rapidly. If all goes well, I will get some storm pictures. The kids on surfboards will be out for the sport and I also like to get the action shots.

I love a beautiful skyline and no two are ever alike. Landscape and seascape views give us endless possibilities.

I am standing on the pier and in the far distance the Hillsboro Lighthouse is a mere speck. This was taken early morning before the crowd arrived. The Wyndham Hotel is on the right margin.

Well I'm looking forward to a week getting out and about. My first mornings effort.... its close, I'm happy with the composition but I over exposed the sky, would have been a winner otherwise.

Here at NE Eller Drive in Deerfield Beach, Florida on Saturday November 20th 2021, we catch Brightline BrightOrange racing south bound for its Fort Lauderdale Station Stop. In the lead is Siemens SCB-40 Charger #104.

Another shot of Orange clearing the intersection with Charger #108 bringing up the markers.

TRCX 812 is leading the southbound. It's a former NS GP49, now with a low-nose cab and classified a GP49PH-3.

Hanging over the edge of the fishing pier might not be too smart, but I got my shot. It is barely sunrise and this surf is the result of Hurricane Ike, which is way south of us. Deerfield Beach, Florida

We are back to normal, no more wind, pray for Texas. They are in for a rough time of it.

I am standing on the fishing pier and this is the view looking north. All the large buildings are private condominiums. For those interested in sport, the surf is best on this side of the pier. It was early in the morning and I was ahead of the beach goers. It will be packed tonight for fireworks.

Southbound and northbound Tri-Rail trains meet at Deerfield Beach. TRCX 812 is leading the southbound. It's a former NS GP49, now with a low-nose cab and classified a GP49PH-3.

Displayed outside City Hall in Deerfield Beach, Florida is restored Seaboard Coast Line Caboose #0896. Originally built as a boxcar in 1951, the Seaboard Coast Line would go on to rebuild it at their shops in Waycross, Georgia. In the mid 1980s following the Seaboard System Merger, the #0896 was retired and sold to William Thies and Sons incorporated. It was subsequently moved to their liquor store warehouse off NE 26th Street in Wilton Manors near Fort Lauderdale. There it was placed on a spur track parallel to the Florida East Coast Railway’s Mainline. Upon arrival William Thies had the caboose repainted into a Light Grey Livery. The Budd lite logo was also added on both sides underneath the Coupla. After the store closed in 2001, it was donated to the South Florida Railway Museum in Deerfield Beach. The Museum, which is based in the City’s restored Seaboard Air Line Depot, had plans to place the Caboose outside in the parking lot of the current Tri-Rail/Amtrak Station once they got the proper approval and enough space was made. In the meantime the Florida East Coast graciously allowed the Museum to store it on a siding track off their Mainline at Hillsboro Boulevard. So on the morning of Friday April 19th 2002 the caboose was trucked from Wilton Manors up to the siding at Deerfield where it was given a red paint job. The Deerfield Beach City Historical Society also lended a helping hand and began raising funds to restore the caboose back to its original SCL Livery. From 2002 to 2013 the names of major contributors to the project were placed on the side of the caboose. While Broward County did eventually approve the Museum’s request to move it to the Station, by 2011 the Caboose continued to sit at Hillsboro. Not long afterwards unfortunately the plans were dropped for unknown reasons and ownership of the caboose was transferred, becoming split between the Historical Society and the Dietrich Family. At the time the Dietrich Folks owned the Deerfield Supply Yard next to the siding the Caboose sat on. While the Caboose never did get to call the Deerfield Station its home, the idea of moving it to a more permanent location never left the Society. By 2015 they scouted other potential locations, among them being Coconut Creek’s Tradewinds Park and the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach. In 2016 things finally gained traction again for the Caboose when the Society struck up a deal with the City to display it outside City Hall. At about the same time the society also finally raised enough funds for its much needed repaint. On Friday July 26th the Caboose left Mainline Rails for the final time when it was moved several hundred yards east onto the empty lot of the then recently razed Deerfield Supply Yard. For the next 8 months numerous volunteers came out and worked hard restoring the 0896 to how it would of looked bringing up the rear of numerous SCL Freight Trains in and around the 1970s. Finally on Friday March 17th 2017 after hundreds of hours of work, the newly repainted 0896 was moved one final time several blocks through Downtown to its new restoring spot where it of course, remains today.

After Hurricane Hannah passed by, I took this shot with the surf still rolling in but the skies were sunny and clear.

The morning of day 3 of the trip was set aside for shooting Tri-Rail and some miscellaneous stuff. Unfortunately the storms from the last couple days lingered for a few hours into the morning. Brookville 825 brings up the markers on this northbound train.

Late in the day, the lifeguard is gone. Deep shadows of palm trees make this interesting for me.

There are many places to eat in this area, but if you want to dine waterfront, you can chose between Oceans 234, and JBs' on the Beach. Both are moderate to high. The view is wonderful and the mode is casual.

Early Sunday morning with Annette, Don and Connie. The sun was low on the horizon and it made for some great color in the picture. We are standing on the Embassy Suites beach area, looking south toward Lighthouse Point (and I can barely see it in this picture).

Making his third Station Stop on the South Florida Rail Corridor this evening, Train P09720 gently glides into Deerfield Beach. P42DC #135 takes the helm. Video of this catch and more: youtu.be/u8ZO_vk1GcI

"The American people never carry an umbrella. They prepare to walk in eternal sunshine." Alfred E. Smith 1873-1944

This is the Deerfield Beach fishing pier moments after a very weak sunrise. There is a lens flare on the overhang and the sun is reflected on the floor. This was a hurricane morning and the birds mostly stayed huddled on the deck. I set the camera down to get this picture, the place was deserted.

The real deal for families in my area. The beach is free with good restrooms and there are abundant eateries nearby. Parking is paid but that is to be expected. The pier is for fishing and walking, with a small fee. A storm was coming in when I took this picture.

During my Railfanning Session in Deerfield Beach, Florida on Monday April 4th 2022, we find Brightline BrightRed at the NE Eller Drive Road Crossing running under a speed restriction due to a Track Crew working nearby. Siemens SCB-40 Charger #113 provides motive power. Video of this catch and more: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEZ-yyG24ks

We do not have much surf in south FL, but when it comes, the kids come out to play. This teen guy is a learner.

Early on a hot summer morning, the umbrellas begin to appear. In the far distance you can see the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. The sun is intense today, I am out of here!

This beachside restaurant is very popular. The morning sun illuminates the fierce wind that we experienced as Hurricane Ike passed through Cuba. I had to stay on the pier to get pictures because if I went onto the beach, the sand and salt spray would destroy my two cameras hanging on my neck, not to mention my skin and eyes.
