For Macro Mondays - I took a B&W photo of someone playing poker with a couple of aces up their sleeve, but there are so many other nice shots of playing cards, that I decided to bend/break the rules and dug out this shot I took from 2008. If I'm out of bounds, I'll remove it and post the other shot. I've loved this picture since the day I took. I'd advise anyone who wants to live with less stress in their lives to take a picture just like this one.
This photo was my husband's idea and I love how it turned out too! We are officially (non-mortgage) debt-free! We paid off my student loan this week! #daveramsey #financialpeace #babysteponeisdone #babysteptwoweconqueredyou #babystepthreeweareafterthee
I am happy to announce that I am officially DEBT-FREE. You don't really know what that means until you are so deep in debt that every month you dread to see the 3 or 4 credit card statements in the mail and see the interest payments piling up and no end in sight.
By the way, some of these cards were duplicates and from the same account, so no, I didn't have THAT many accounts.
After this pic was taken, all these cards were shredded - and what a joyous moment it was. I wouldn't wish credit card debt on my worst enemies, it really really is a cancer and hard to rid yourself of it.
So I urge you before you swipe, think about it. Will you want to wake up 2 years from now, and still paying off that TV or fridge and feel good about yourself? I know I didn't - and now the ordeal is over for me.
Plus, for us Muslims, it is against our way to pay or receive interest, so that's another added reason to stay away from the plastic debt.
So, the next thing I will swipe is my DEBIT card, yay! Well, I don't have any credit cards now anyway =)

Lifetime Dream # 25 of my list of 155: I will be debt free. I will pay off all of my debts and then pay cash for everything that I need, and never carry a balance on a credit card again. I will never again be controlled by debt. Completed On: July 23, 2010
I went through a bitter divorce in 1999, inheriting a mountain of debt in the midst of overwhelming heart break. After the divorce I began racking up debts that just were about surviving for a while, but those led to irresponsible living. I racked up $65,000 in debt between credit cards, music equipment, LASIK surgery, and just life. It was a hard life, especially once I couldn’t pay the debts.
My financial world came crashing down in 2004… I had no means to pay minimum balances on things and I really didn’t have the money to even eat. But I started fresh- got a new job that allowed endless over time. I basically killed myself at that job and then switched over to United Healthcare where I began working my way up- paying off debts as I went along.
I paid off the most notorious bank loan in May of 2008, and then my last Child Support payment (not included in the total debt) was paid last July. It’s an awesome feeling to not owe anyone. I am in school now but United Healthcare is paying for everything with that. If I buy a car I plan to pay cash for it- I never want to charge anything because it’s a habit I don’t want to get into… ever again!

Left hand side:
A single mum who recently completed her DMP through us. She says we lifted the pressure when she felt it was just too much to handle by herself. She managed to clear £10k of debt and her daughter has now left home so her bills have gone down too!
Right hand side:
A family that was extremely grateful for our advice and the lesson that being in debt taught them. They were keen to pass their experience on to their children so they would never have to go through the same hardship. They successfully repaid over £26k in less than 5 years.

To the staff at CCCS bankruptcy team who helped me!
Just a small way of saying a big thank you, for all the advice and support you gave me to sort out my life. Bankruptcy was a big step, but I can sleep at night again!
Thank you,

From a young man, living with his mum. He had a low income and owed less than £5k. His mum was willing to reduce his board payments so he was able to clear his debts within three years.

This couple owed over £43k when they initially came to us for advice. One of them had a bad accident at work which resulted in a lengthy compensation claim. We were able to offer them a short term DMP until the claim was settled. Once it came through they negotiated settlement figures with their creditors. This is a service we will start to offer to all clients soon.

I am proud that I pay cash for everything. Someday (hopefully really soon) I will have a car payment and I have come to terms with that… but you better believe that I am going to pay that car off much sooner than my note is due; and I am gonna enjoy every mile in that Stang!

These cards represent most of the cards I had and paid off (or closed). I keep them to remind me of where I never want to return again!
This was my birthday and anniversary present from my in-laws in Canada. They are a blessing to me, and when I see these $50 bills I think of how far I have come in my path.
There was a time when this was grocery money for 4-5 weeks, and it was like a lottery winning. Today, yes of course it is needed… but not in the same way as it had been. Where once it was needed for “survival”, now it is more for the basics and for things we want, etc. In the past I probably would have spent it right away out of need- now I can be much more slow and cautious and think through what’s best to invest it in.
To me it’s a reminder that wise spending and investment has paid dividends. I don’t really buy things like I used to, and that comfort of a future and security is such a peace of mind and blessing. I’ve come a long way in my path, and learned so very much along the way.
This lady has successfully paid off £10.5k through a debt management plan. She suffers from ill health and is now able to reduce her working hours. We offered to help with a welfare benefits check to help her further.
She says "I promise you will not hear from me again!". We hope she doesn’t need our services in the future, but we’ll always be here to help.

Yesterday I mailed my last ever check to Sallie Mae. Today I paid off my only credit card. I am starting 2007 debt-free, and this is the best present I could ever give my financial planner father. And I didn't even have to rob Moe's Tavern!
