Doggie Daycare has taken over my life for the last 2.5 months. I take portraits for the owners and some captures just Howl for captions. Here are some examples.

It seems that Snowy here is a great babysitter and all the calves love hanging around him.

Here's another shot from my late August trip to the Svartkällsskogens nature reserve which ended in an involontary swim (long story here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52324967245/).

Finding a spider with slings on the back like this immediately tells us it is a wolf spider - and of course a female.

But getting the exact species is a little trickier. This is one of the species in the Pardosa lugubris group, P. saltans, P. alacris and of course P. lugubris. They, especially the females, are extremely similar so the ID here ends with Pardosa in the lugubris group.

If you zoom in on the spiderlings clinging to their mother's abdomen, you'll see that they have blue legs. This isn't an external colour, but actually the hemolymph, the spiderlings' blood showing through the insanely thin exoskeleton of their legs.

Unlike mammalian blood which uses hemoglobin, containing iron to transport oxygen, spiders have hemocyanin with copper, making it light blue instead.

I am fascinated by the blue fence surrounding the local daycare down the street. This challenge allows me to finally have a reason to focus on it!

Female koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) named Tonahleah in the middle getting snuggled by two joeys, neither of which belong to her. It is not uncommon for joeys to visit other moms for a while, and in this case, Tonahleah seems to be on daycare duty!

The joey on her front is Allira, she belongs to BeeJay and the one on her back is Warrin, who belongs to Wanneroo.

At present, there are four joeys in the Australia Outback section at the San Diego Zoo.

Another long exposure. The light in this scene was quite harsh, which results in a real pale looking image. I haven't touched the saturation!

The baby walker (which is the subject) has a nice, slight ghostly glow. Long shadows = mood. A transmission tower in the background adds uncanniness.

Pen and Watercolor on Paper, 2015

Hi! This Friday in Oakland I'll be at the opening reception for "HANG TANG," a group exhibit of print, paint, illustration and sculpture featuring all new, freshly squeezed works by juicy Kate Klingbeil, Froggy Muzzman, Ryan Whelan, and myself. My juicy, juicy self!

Here's a preview of one piece I'm showing. It's a pan and watercolor drawing titled "Mongolian Daycare Center," and is concept art for a production of a seminal 1960s play by a Latin American and/or Eastern European radical playwright who doesn't actually exist.
