A 1980s view in the typically dingy back streets of Lhasa. Solid housing, but they must be freezing in the long Tibetan winter.
This was in the vicinity of the Jokhang Temple, and so I guess it still exists, although a glimpse at Google maps shows an explosion of development in the city. Gone are the peaceful almost rural walks down by the Lhasa River with the Potala Palace dominating the skyline, and I see some of the outlying temples have been virtually engulfed by the urban sprawl.

The climate at the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan, where the rock-hewn Georgian Orthodox monastery complex Davit Gareja is located, is described as semidesert, but despite the harsh environment, the monastery remained an important centre of religious and cultural activity for many centuries.

This is the beginning of my “meet my friends project”. This project allows me to humanize my peers and get to know their stories and share how fortunate I’ve been to meet these awesome people with others. Let’s get started!
Where we met: David was part of a dance group in a talent show at school where I was photographer. This is him actually doing a gainer, no photo manip here.
After a short conversation with David, some things were clear:
-He’s a big nerd. Interests include Scott Pilgrim, cosplaying, 5am talks about various equations, and learning new languages (german, French, Japanese..).
-He gets very invested in movies and books. (emphasis on very)
-He has a big heart. Poor guy is still traumatized by his friend stealing a whole rack of plastic bags at a grocery store one day.
Conclusion: Is he human or is he dancer? Both! He’s more than that guy who can just do flips. I asked him what he wish people did more, his answer was simple: Stop judging people and have fun with life.

okay, a LOT has happened really fast, and i've gotten some questions asking what's happened to... well, just about everything.
so this is the present: the guy on the left is david. a lot of you probably recognize the guy on the right- that would be tank. i've relocated to the west coast. and i live with them.
everything was done on a leap of faith on all our parts, and it's been one of the most rewarding leaps i've ever made.
