back in the day, the seacoast of davao was so pristine. sad to say, it is now slowly being invaded by informal settlers ( as seen in the right side of the photo ).

Whenever I go on a trip, I always make it a point to get the window seat. I love to see the different islands and identify them as we go...
This was taken on August 23, 2009 on my flight back to Manila from Davao City.
Tomorrow, I will fly to Cagayan de Oro City to attend the Annual Conference of Anthropologists at Xavier University.
I wish I will be granted a window seat again..

Sea turtles return to nest on their birthplace after thirty years. This means that Punta Dumalag has long been a nesting site. If this spot was left unprotected, it could mean the extinction of pawikans(sea turtles).

Davao city area has been increasing in size thanks to the siltation provided by Davao river. The coastal area of the photo was part of newly emerged land, and the residents were illegal squatters. In spite of that, the area was OK to stroll, and I noticed that the municipality provided water, electricity and even internet. What was lacking was the legal status of land ownership.
