Some of you know I've been dealing with some health issues for several months. I've really been struggling with returning to work and mostly, not dealing well with the pressures that come with being the boss. At all. Day by day, I've been losing all the ground I had taken in getting stronger, and started going backwards, fast. So I made a really (really) difficult decision to leave. I've been there for more than 20 years. I've moved across the country more than once, worked with thousands of people... and just like that, in about 3 more weeks, it's over. I don't have a safety net. Starting over with a clean slate is a great twist in a Hallmark movie. In real life - it's pretty damn daunting.

But I'll get healthier, and stronger - and that's really good.

And I'm moving back home, to be with my guy and my bonus daughter - and that's even better.

There's a lot of life and living to create. But first, I'm unmaking 20+ years of this life.

Wish me luck.

The Great Hall at Kilkenny Castle.

The third and oldest bridge at Wycoller . The Clam Bridge is approx 1000 years old . It looks rather daunting to cross , being at quite a steep angle, but even I managed it !!! This roadway takes you straight into the hamlet of Wycoller .

The UK is presently experiencing a rare heatwave with unrelenting clear blue skies, harsh light and an imminent thunder storm prediction. So while i wait patiently for it, i've dug out one from earlier this year, when a dawn rise was not such a daunting prospect and sunshine scarce.

Hello Everyone, Happy Wednesday to you all and hope you are staying warm and having a lovely week so far. I promise to not to talk to much in this post as i usually do, I know I talk to much some times. I wanted to upload an artistic photo I have been working on in Photoshop for a little while and I think the results turned out rather well. I am still very new to Photoshop and graphics programs like Gimp and Lightroom, I am terrible with computers and break my Iphone by just touching it. LO! When one has a passion for something though they can invest themselves into anything that seems daunting and impossible and move toward that goal of their desire, even with tiny baby steps. I love fashion and modeling so much that I have taken the time to learn something that I just could not really grasp, but with the help of friends and my genius brother teaching me, I am picking up things bit by bit and I am enjoying what I am learning and able to make things in what I love to be a part of and do.

So the morale of the story is, find what you are passionate about and no matter the challenges and obstacles move closer to what you want and you will overcome and do amazing things and be amazing in the process, I wish that for everyone.

Thank you for allowing me to share my photo with you and have a wonderful rest of your week.

XOXO,

Hildda

If you are travelling up the East Coast of Iceland, you are duty bound to stop at Stokknes. Here, apart from the Viking cafe, you will find Vestrahorn standing loud and proud on the beach. For a photographer, it is a daunting task. There have been so many great images of Vestrahorn. How on earth can one produce something that will stand alone and be a worthwhile capture?

I am not sure this exactly reaches the bar set by previous images, but it is my best attempt. It is comprised of two images stitched together. You may wonder why I did not position myself further back on the beach? The truth is, the amount of water sitting in front of Vestrahorn varies daily. I needed to be both close to the water but capture the full extent of Vestrahorn in the final image. The solution two image panorama.

Needless to say, I have just spent the last three hours tweaking, adjusting and cleaning up the digital image in order to give justice to Vestrahorn. This is about as good as I can get it.

Moving to the city was rather a daunting experience for me. Slowly, however, I can sometimes see the beauty

Tucson, Arizona

A fairly accurate representation of how we felt after our moving sale this past Saturday. But, nothing daunted, we're forging ahead to move out by September 24th. May the angels send in their equivalent of the Marines to help with the mountain of tasks remaining to be done, lol. This rose is from a bouquet that I just didn't have time to photograph when it was in full bloom.

ever trying to find something that communicates....something.....your mood....your place.....your time?

and then you have like a million images that could be presented in any which way...but none of them really scratch a surface?

No matter how big the sunset, Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore is always a daunting prospect

The main mast of the HMS Discovery in Dundee. The route to the crows nest at the very top looks epic, and somewhat daunting!!

Another from the archives...there’s weenie people on the water if you look hard ... puts things into perspective ... how tiny we really are ... which can be liberating and daunting in equal measures, I find.

London Must Do Experiences

Traveling to London can seem intimidating; after all, this city is vast in size as well as scope of sight-seeing enough to be daunting.

However, the city has a lot to offer to those who know what to look for, with great scope in fashion, arts, history and architecture.

London has earned a reputation as being a rainy city, and for that reason, the best time to visit is in May-June or September.

This very large and daunting female black-and-yellow argiope, otherwise known as the black and yellow garden spider, just finished wrapping up her dinner in a silk straightjacket. A few small flies are trying to break in and steal their shares.

Once upon a time you would pick up a car and as long as you worked out which stork was the for indicators and the wipers, and which side was the filler cap on you were good to go. Jeez it was a bit daunting sitting in the cab of this new beastie yesterday, it’s like sitting at the helm of the starship Enterprise. It really freaks me out when I turn the key and there’s no engine noise and roll on for the first 10 yards before the engine starts. But what really got me was the electric hand break, as I’m the short of guy who liked to wring the neck of the mechanical one, saying now bloody move. When Carla has to drive the car after I’d used it she has to kick back on the dashboard to release it. Anyway we have it now and I just need a bit of a journey before we become friend. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a sea anything like this, taken in November 2021.

The sheer magnitude is daunting....

I've been traveling the west for several weeks, disconnected from all but emergency communications. Funny, the news stream seems just like it was when I left. Anyway, back in the flow (almost) I got through the daunting task of my initial photo organization and can begin to post some of the results.

I was fortunate enough to take a Grand Canyon raft trip led by Adam Schallau and the wonderful Boatmen of Tour West. Adam was amazing. Spending time with everyone. I have some shots I've promised to name "Adam's shot" as it was his vision that discovered it for me. He also helped me sort out my helter skelter way of bracketing. Thanks Adam, I can't wait to go with you again.

Rafting 18 days down the Colorado through the amazing Grand Canyon is living in the moment. Excitement, adventure, beauty, great food and wonderful company. Couldn't ask for more. This is an image taken at Matkatamiba Canyon, one of the many hikes we enjoyed on the journey.

Decayed and almost dead another storm like wintry day threatens this old farmstead!

1,277 meters (4,189 ft) to the summit of the volcano.

Climbing Cotopaxi to the summit is quite popular with up to 100 climbers attempting it on weekends. Today, mountain guide companies offer regular guided climbs of the mountain. Climbers grade the conventional route alpine PD (Peu Difficile) or WS (Wenig Schwierig) — or PD/WS+ (indicating "Mildly Difficult PLUS"). Use of crampons and ice axes are mandatory as snow and ice slopes of up to 50 degrees are encountered and climbers should be on belay and use aluminum ladders to cross one or two of the crevasses. A 4WD track goes up from the national park entrance to a carpark at 4600 m altitude on north side, just below the José F. Ribas Refuge. This stone mountain hut — owned and operated by Grupo Ascensionismo del Colegio San Gabriel — is situated 200 m higher at 4800 m (a 40-80 minute uphill hike). Here climbers can spend the night and begin their summit bid in the early morning without any intermediate camps. (Typically no more than about half of those attempting to summit Cotopaxi make it to the top after a daunting — though non-technical — six-hour scramble.)

Summiting normally starts around 12:30 am to reach the summit at latest 7:30 am and then return to the hut before the snow melts and glacier crevasses move/evolve. As of July 28, 2014, the Ribas Refuge is under construction. Tour operators shuttle their clients up to the top of the 4WD track once in the afternoon for a glacier skills class, and then again to start the climb around midnight, spending the intervening hours eating dinner and resting at a hostel lower down by the lakes. Adventure tourism operators in Quito also offer mountain biking tours from the Refuge downhill along the dirt track.

Chatuchak Market can be one dizzy and confusing trip for the unprepared first timer. The narrow alleys and gangways of shops can prove daunting to the tourist, making them feel like wanderers in a never ending maze.

Still, one may never know what hidden gems can be found in the market.

The brown hare is mostly nocturnal, grazing on young shoots grass and crops . These Hares were in a wheat field close to my home and I managed to photograph several different animals . Hares can outrun most of their enemies they can reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour . I spent most of the day with them and had a great time although I found it quite daunting when I was at ground level and had them running full pelt toward me . Pictures to follow !

Petrified , she stood in the corner of the universe,

Sun scorching her wounds that would not bleed;

Drowned in the eternal abyss of nothingness,

Silence, that hurt the soul.

Terrified with the might of tempestuous uproar

Seen daunting the very crux of this universe;

Not a mark, nor a sign does it say,

Silence, that hurt the soul.

Charred to death by the heat of the glowing flames

Seen are those letters, a single touch does it fade away;

Not a storm, nor a splash does it need

Just Silence , that soothe the soul.

Holding a handful of earth gently in her hand,

A drop of ocean in her eyes;

A spark in the urn, that once lit that darkness,

Silence, that fill the soul.

Hot, humid and steamy days have come early this Summer. The high heat can be a little bit daunting, but I love the soft textures the high levels of water vapor in the air gives to the light. It's Friday already, my friends, have a wonderful weekend. Oh, and Happy Fence Friday! :)

Happy Cozy Sunday! It's a sunny but *freezing* bitter-wind sort of a day. Stay in, and spoon with someone cuddly all day if you can!

I am somewhat overwhelmed by the attention my gauzy shot got yesterday. Thanks to everyone for this. It's a bit daunting, I must say. But I am finally on my way to see everyone's streams today. Which I am very much in need of.

More Crocus shots from yesterday.

It was quite daunting taking photos of them. There was just so much choice - go in close, zoom out for an overview, etc. You also had to contended with other folk taking photos of them.

Wish I'd had more time, but poor planning and timescales on my part.

Proportions and light look okay? My husband isn’t a fan of all that negative space. You?

“Life is painful and messed up. It gets complicated at the worst of times, and sometimes you have no idea where to go or what to do. Lots of times people just let themselves get lost, dropping into a wide open, huge abyss. But that's why we have to keep trying. We have to push through all that hurts us, work past all our memories that are haunting us. Sometimes the things that hurt us are the things that make us strongest. A life without experience, in my opinion, is no life at all. And that's why I tell everyone that, even when it hurts, never stop yourself from living.”

My grandma had a ritual for tea and cake in the afternoon! Out came the best china (no mugs or everyday cups) with matching cups, saucers and plates. Paper doilies (remember those?) and even special small knives to cut the cake on your plate! With matching milk jug and sugar bowl, it was quite a daunting experience for a small girl like me 😊 But the prize was a slice of cake, or sometimes even a cup cake of my own!

Juvenile male Blue Dasher, Pachydiplax longipennis, Cullinan Park, Sugar Land TX. I was not previously aware that there was an immature stage of big dragons. This guy’s thorax will turn fully blue, or has turned, if he has survived.

Dragonflies are no more endangered than the rest of us, but Friday will be a good day to remember Endangered Species, as is every other day.

And yes, I noticed the Ukrainian colors, and the Human Rights Coalition logo. Hope you did too.

One of the few trees left to grow at Ludwig Preserve, this cockspur hawthorn comes armed with awesome sharp spurs on its branches. Hawthorns are terrific trees for birds and wildlife since their pomes are excellent eating (and fully ripe tonight) and those daunting thorns keep predators from bothering bird nests that might be built there during the summer.

PC update for you all. I have been running on the 'thrice repaired -once replaced- twice repaired PC' for 4 days now just keeping it simple and watching for issues. Trust being at a premium with all of the problems this thing has caused over the past 7 months.

If all is well I will look to start the daunting (for me these days) process of reinstalling all of my necessary photo software, profiles and presets etc.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I can start the long process of editing the 1,128 photos I have taken since the end of September last year - when these problems all started.

I am so grateful that you have enjoyed my back catalogue of previously unpublished and re-edited shots throughout this time.

Fingers are still definitely crossed here.

Take care my Flickr friends. I wish you a wonderful weekend ahead.

I couldn't resist another trip to the British Wildlife Centre for an owl photo day and to try out my new lens. The stabilisation on this combo is crazy and I was getting tack sharp images at 1/30th at 700mm, unbelievable right!

The weather forecast was rather daunting for the day but luckily we didn't have a drop of rain and the sun gave a dappled show of light in the bluebell woods. So so many more images to come, hope you guys like owls!!!!

The scramble up Yewbarrow looked daunting from further away and then it looked easier on the final approach. It was pretty scary after committing. And yes the title is stolen from last night's worthy Oscar winner, a movie which we finally got to watch yesterday evening too.

Phantasms

~Andy Durbin~

I once found myself believing,

With my thoughts inside, deceiving,

And my fears throughout were weaving

Underneath my waking mind.

There, my visions all were telling,

Yet no power was there quelling,

While my madness deep was swelling,

And no respite could I find.

There I found my terror haunting,

Overwhelming me, and daunting,

And it whispered, as if taunting

Me with echoes of my youth.

And the darkness, vacillating,

Evil, black, and dominating,

Seemed to be intimidating

And withholding from the truth.

While I wandered in the mire,

There my senses seemed to tire.

But my spirit did transpire

Through the ancient, vile haze.

I knew not where I was going.

Time itself seemed to be slowing,

And my body was forgoing

All its normal, stable ways.

Then I saw a figure nearing,

Its eyes huge and red and searing,

And it seemed that it was leering

As it smiled through the gloom.

Not a single word was spoken.

My fear suddenly was woken,

And my mind at once was broken

As I floated to my doom.

I then sat up, loudly screaming,

Though I knew I had been dreaming.

Now I must find some redeeming.

I’ve been shaken to my core.

But that figure deep inside me,

Still resides there to deride me,

And the nightmares sent to guide me

Haunt my soul forevermore.

The tree is one of the shots that I took at Seeker's Trust to which I have added the labels. Seeker's Trust is a centre for prayer and healing. I know that many people on flickr go through very hard times and a new year can feel quite daunting especially as it is after Christmas that can also bring up difficult emotions for some people. Maybe this tree can bring healing to those in need of it. May you have a plentiful supply of attributes that are appropriate to your needs of the moment to sustain you through the coming year.

I wanted to get closer but I felt eyes. I would be braver if I had an accomplice. Anyone? Anyone?

This Ruby-crowned Kinglet is a juvenile and facing daunting prospects, not least because of its small size — average weight 10 g or less (not even half an ounce). Yet the seeming fragility is tempered by resilience, as suggested by the presence of this bird in high elevation Subalpine Larch forest in the Canadian Rockies. It was in the Lake O’Hara area of Yoho National Park, British Columbia, very close to the Continental Divide.

Royal fortress-palace built on legends and bitter medieval conflict

Caernarfon Castle is recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages.

This fortress-palace on the banks of the River Seiont is grouped with Edward I’s other castles at Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech as a World Heritage Site. But for sheer scale and architectural drama Caernarfon stands alone.

Here Edward and his military architect Master James of St George erected a castle, town walls and a quay all at the same time. This gigantic building project eventually took 47 years and cost a staggering £25,000.

The castle was born out of bitter war with Welsh princes. So of course its immense curtain walls and daunting King’s Gate were designed to withstand assault. But the polygonal towers, eagle statues and multi-coloured masonry sent a more subtle message.

These echoed imperial Roman architecture, especially the walls of Constantinople. They also recalled the Welsh myth of Macsen Wledig, who dreamed of a great fort at the mouth of a river – ‘the fairest that man ever saw’.

So Caernarfon is a castle of dreams. A legend brought to life. Even after 700 years it still stirs the imagination like no other Welsh castle.

Sometimes we look back on things and conditions. “Looking Back” might be a bit easier than trying to look ahead. Recognizing the past our vision can be 20/20. Looking forward when we don’t know what’s ahead of us can be a bit daunting. Not knowing what’s ahead in our lives, our families lives and our countries life can be upsetting. At times we’re called upon to make decisions and adjustments that affect others not just ourselves. Not being prepared that things may not turn out as I had hoped could make my adjustments more difficult. Preparing for outcomes beforehand can be crucial.

“Prayer is the very heart of the life of faith. Since faith is a gift, prayer is perhaps the most important of all the ways of seeking it from God. Prayer is the first and most important step. All through the life of faith one must resort constantly to prayer, because faith is not simply a gift which we receive once for all in our first act of belief. Every new development of faith, every new increment of supernatural light, even though we may be earnestly working to acquire it, remains a pure gift of God.

Christ told followers that their faith should be of a kind that was not daunted by any obstacle or any impossibility. The chief meaning of the New Testament teaching on prayer is then that the kingdom of Heaven is open to those who beg, by prayer, to enter it. That supernatural aid will never be refused anyone who needs it and seeks it in the name of Jesus Christ (John 16:23).”

- Thomas Merton from Life and Holiness

Today I set out for a ten mile walk with a friend and was followed for the length of two fields by Yin, who paused at the stile leading into a field of cows. There we parted company.

Later this evening I got a bit concerned when he wasn't home, not even for dinner, so I walked back across the two fields to the exact spot where I'd left him eight hours earlier and after a while saw him coming running to me. I don't think he's ever gone so far from home before and being so low in the tall grass must've seemed quite daunting to him.

~ Passage at Dusk ~

This song haunted me for a long time. The original by Sting is daunting and sends chills down my spine. Yet a few years ago I stumbled over a cover by the late Eva Cassidy. I never imagined anyone could cover that song and make it as wonderful as Sting did, but she made it work. To this day this is one of my all time favorites. It's a dream, full of wonder, longing and melancholy, yet beautiful and haunting. Thank you Sting and Eva for this masterpiece. And for the proof that beats and all the dancing and flashing lights aren't necessary to create something beautiful

Fields of Gold - Sting

Fields of Gold - Eva Cassidy

You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley

You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of gold

So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley

In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love among the fields of barley?

We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold

See the west wind move like a lover so upon the fields of barley.

Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth among the fields of gold

I never made promises lightly and there have been some that I've broken

But I swear in the days still left we'll walk in fields of gold

We'll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days among the fields of barley

See the children run as the sun goes down among the fields of gold

You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley

You can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold

When we walked in fields of gold, when we walked in fields of gold

A brute of a fortress. Caernarfon Castle’s pumped-up appearance is unashamedly muscle-bound and intimidating. Picking a fight with this massive structure would have been a daunting prospect. By throwing his weight around in stone, King Edward I created what is surely one of the most impressive of Wales’s castles.
